The Aspiring Futures

Conference

MS JENNIE ROBINSON

After the past two years, it was a delight to be able to hold a face-to-face Futures Conference for Year 10 students in the last week of Term 1. During this week we explored the senior phase of schooling and beyond. We were able to visit universities and also host some outstanding speakers here at school. This week looks at the final years of school and the options available beyond school as well as sessions that encourage girls to consider their personal development. We engaged in some sessions that considered personality type, study skills and the presentation on endometriosis from the Pelvic Pain Foundation was especially well received.

It was also valuable to include the Year 10 RVE day into this year’s programme. These sessions allowed girls to explore some big questions we so often struggle to make time to consider. The Futures Conference considers the notion of career not simply as a job choice, but rather as “whole of life” choices and decisions.

As students prepare for senior subject selection, their engagement and maturity in participating in the Futures Conference was a joy to observe. We hope that they march towards the end of the year with more clarity and look forward to writing SetPlans in preparation for this final stage of schooling.
