hello welcome
There are some fantastic places to visit throughout the Lakes, whether you want to wander through peaceful hills or spend a leisurely afternoon exploring bustling towns, the bus is the ideal way to get around. You’ll get some great views of the rolling countryside too. All our bus routes have returned to normal now that roads have reopened after flooding last winter. Look out for brand new, high-spec buses arriving this summer on route 555. Featuring USB charging sockets and free WiFi, they’re a great way to get right to the heart of the Lakes.

Glenridding to Aira Force
ROUTE get the on rou re 208 or tes 508
2
This route spans woodland with lush green ferns and evergreen specimen conifers. The tumbling waterfall of Aira Force drops an impressive 65 feet. Its roaring falls are set amongst beautiful woodland and can be reached by an enchanting stroll through landscaped glades. Aira Force is the perfect place for a family walk and picnic, and there's a good chance of spotting cheeky red squirrels. This route is easy-going but is a little steep in places.

The central Lake District is being invaded by a hundred life-sized decorated Herdwick sculptures as part of a public art trail, in aid of the Calvert Trust’s 40th Anniversary. From Keswick to Windermere there will be ewes and lambs appearing in unexpected places... in parks, on buildings, in shops and cafes, and even on boats, all sponsored by local businesses and decorated by local artists. Buy a trail map and get Herdwick Spotting this summer! Not only will you be having fun, you’ll also be supporting a great cause by helping the Calvert Trust to challenge disability through outdoor adventure. goherdwick.co.uk

You are in the heart of the jaws of Borrowdale, the narrowest part of the valley bounded by Grange Fell and Castle Crag and High Spy, on the other side of the River Derwent. The oak woodlands are beautiful all year round, but spectacular in spring with carpets of bluebells. Autumn brings its own glories when leaves turn red, yellow and orange.
To reach Dove Cottage the A591 must be crossed; the safest place to do this is by the mini roundabout. Follow the lane by Dove Cottage, which forks left up a hill, to join a bridleway. Head along the bridleway following signs for coffin road. 3

This woodland and meadow walk gives access to the beautiful River Rothay.
The track undulates with short, steep sections, but the surface is consistently good. It leads to a small plateau and the impressive Bowderstone.
Take the road from the centre of the village following signs for Ambleside and Dove Cottage.
