TOP THINGS TO DO

BOROUGH MARKET

Borough Market is a delectable destination that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you craving for more. This vibrant food market, located in the heart of London, offers a feast for the senses.

There are many famous restaurants in this market. You will have many options to choose from and experience a variety of flavours. Don't forget to indulge in the exquisite flavors of strawberry chocolate, a delectable treat that combines the sweetness of strawberries with rich velvety chocolate.

Visiting Borough Market is like stepping into a scene from Harry Potter. The market is brimming with enchanting sights and sounds, reminiscent of the magical world created by J.K. Rowling. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere and explore the stalls filled with unique and exotic ingredients. Whether you're a food enthusiast or a Harry Potter fan, a visit to Borough Market promises a truly unforgettable and flavorful experience.

CAMDEN MARKET

Camden Market is one of the 10 Top attractions in London. It’s a popular tourist destination, offering fashion, crafts and foods from different countries. It is, actually, made up of several different markets that merge into each other, so the visitor gets the feeling that it is a single market.

Camden Market is said to be home to current fashion trends earlier than anywhere else, in fact, many well-known fashion designers come here regularly to track down new trends.

Every month more than one million people visit this market, so it is one of the biggest in the world. The entry to this famous attraction in London is free and the prices at Camden Market are not excessively high, sometimes you can even get a real bargain (especially if you buy more than one product, you can get a big discount).

Most shops start to open at 10 a.m. and close between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. In our opinion, you should really consider going to Camden town, but be careful with your personal belongings!

Hyde Park offers a wide range of recreational activities and attractions, including open green spaces, walking paths, cycling paths, a boating lake, and various events and concerts throughout the year.

Some notable features within Hyde Park include the Serpentine Lake, the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, the Speakers' Corner (where people can express their views on various topics), and several monuments and memorials. The park is also adjacent to other famous landmarks such as Kensington Gardens, Buckingham Palace, and the Marble Arch.

Whether you want to have a picnic, go for a jog, enjoy a leisurely walk, or simply relax in nature, Hyde Park is a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

good news: the entrance is free of charge

Kensington gardens (one of the London's royal parks) is peaceful and also offers a mix of old and new park pastimes, including a statue of Peter Pan, Albert memorial, Diana Memorial Playground, the Kensington Palace and the Serpentine Art Gallery.

it is separated from Hyde park by the Serpentine, a lake used by boaters and swimmers (yes, you can swim there) @Marcela

GREENWICH PARK

For us, is one of the most peaceful and beautiful parks in London, and visiting it is completely worth it. The park opens at 06.00 and closes at 21.30, also, the entry is free for everyone

One of the reasons to visit Greenwich is to take a photo in the classical spot Greenwich Meridian Line, to it you need pay to enter in The Royal Observatory‘s. Do not forget to check the times and prices as they can change at any time. However, for budget travellers or for those who just want to take a photo for free, there is a small shiny bronze line after a black iron gate next to the clock.

Greenwich park is on of the royal parks and it is a large park in southeast London, it covers 74 hectares and is located in the Greenwich area of London

The park is situated on a hill and offers great views of the city. The park has a rich history and has been used for various purposes throughout the years, including as a hunting ground for Henry VIII and as a military training ground. Today, it is a popular destination for locals and tourists.

The park has a lot of attractions, like a rose garden, a flower garden and a playground for children. There is also a boating pond and a herb garden.

There you also can find the National Maritime Museum, the Queen’s House, and the Old Royal Naval College.

Due to this amazing facts, Greenwich Park is a great place to relax, have a picnic, and enjoy the beautiful scenery. @Abisa Balendran and @Victor Severiano

TOP THINGS TO DO THE MONUMENT

It was built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London, a devastating fire that swept through the city, destroying more than 13,000 houses and 87 parish churches, also, it is a symbol of the rebuilt city.

This monument is 61M (21ft) high and its balcony is reached by an internal spiral staircase of 311 steps, affording a panoramic view of the city, and that is one of the reasons we recommend you to visit this place.

It is open everyday, from 9:30 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00. The tickets price can vary from £5.80 (for adults) to £4.40 (for students).

TOWER OF LONDON

The Tower of London is one of the top sights to see in the city, because it is home to the Crown Jewels, the iconic Yeoman warders, also known as Beefeaters, (in fact, they have been guarding the Tower of London since Tudor times) and the famous ravens. This monument guarded the royal family in times of war and rebellion as well, because it was considered the most secure castle in the land.

This fantastic attraction is open everyday, but from Tuesday to Saturdays the visits starts at 9:00 to 17:30 and on Sundays and Mondays it opens from 10:00 to 17:30. The tickets for this amazing experience are: £33.6 for adults, £26.80 for students and £16.80 for children (5-15 years old). Just a little tip: save 2 or 3 hours to visit it and when you enter, go straight to the Crown Jewels to avoid a huge line and have the best experience there.

FREE WALKING TOUR IN LONDON: WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER IT ?

As an enthusiastic traveler, I have developed a deep appreciation for the value of free walking tours in exploring new cities. When I arrived in London, the first thing that I searched for was the free walking tours available here. With no surprise, I found one by Sandemans, a group I already knew based on other tours that I had in other places.

First thing first: what is a free walking tour? Is it really for free?

A free walking tour is not really free It's a tip based service that allows you to give a tip at the end of the tour based on how much you like it and how much money you have.

Back to the tour, I joined it on my first weekend in London. I usually do it as soon as possible, so I can have the whole picture of the city and more knowledge to decide on what I will be delving into in my next days.

During the London free walking tour, we visited some of the city's highlights From Buckingham Palace, home to the British monarchy, to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, we walked through the streets and heard a lot of good stories and local knowledge.

FREE WALKING TOUR IN LONDON: WHY SHOULD YOU CONSIDER IT ?

For me, there are a lot of reasons to join a walking tour in new cities. First of all, the price, which means… what you want! Also, in general, the guides are very passionate about their city and have incredible historical and cultural information. Their expertise brings the sites to life, enabling you to gain a better understanding and appreciation for the places you visit. Last and very important for you, it's an opportunity to listen to more English! And be prepared, it's faster than you expected!

Do you want more information?

Here you can find it:

https://www.neweuropetours.eu/sandemans-tours/london/free-tour-of-london/

Note that this kind of tour is offered by other companies as well You can search more about it

There are a lot of tours that are available besides this one Other tours may have a fee and be focused on a main topic.

INDOOR PLACES

SCIENCE MUSEUM

When we think about museums in London it seems almost impossible to choose just some of them to visit Today I will give you some reasons to consider the London's Science Museum as a mustvisit destination during your time here

With interactive, fascinating and unique artefacts from different areas, like astrology, medicine and computing, this place is located in South Kensington on the famous Exhibition Road. And, one of the most important information: admission to the general collection is free. There are also special attractions, such as the flight simulators that require separate tickets.

One of the most incredible moments of my visit was the opportunity to witness a genuine piece of the moon, displayed on the first floor and also the Apollo 10 command module, which carried a team of astronauts on a mission to the orbit of the moon. By the way, I highly recommend that you take the opportunity to enhance your experience with the guided tour about this one. The guided tours and talks are made by super kind volunteers who provide relevant information, additional context and even personal stories about specific objects or different parts of a whole sector.

This is not a typical museum experience of passively observing artefacts behind glass. Going there you have the chance to get hands-on and participate in interactive exhibits, conduct experiments, and have some fun while learning. It's an immersive adventure that makes science come alive for visitors of all ages. If you are seeking a place to ignite your curiosity you should definitely add this incredible destination to your list!

The place that I would like to recommend is a street food market called Leather Lane Market. I came across this market when I was exploring the area next to Stafford House. The market is 15 mins walk from the school situated in between Farringdon station and Chancery Lane station. The market is a haven for those working in local businesses. You can find any food from around the world, for example Indonesian, Argentinian and Jamaican food. Personally, my favourite dish comes from Dopethai that serve Pad Thai and Thai curry. I strongly believe that Dopethai is the most authentic Thai food I've ever tried in London so far in addition to being reasonably priced and delicious food.

There are still more street food stalls that you can explore at Leather Lane Market.

The Market runs every weekday from around 10 am - 2 pm and is within 2 mins walk from Farringdon station and Chancery lane stations

In conclusion, London is a city that never sleeps, and its nightlife is a reflection of its diverse and cosmopolitan population. From high-energy clubs like Coyote Ugly and Simon's to more relaxed venues like playing in Casinos, there is something to suit every student's taste. Additionally, the city's pub crawl options, such as the Camden Pub Crawl and the Shoreditch Pub Crawl, offer unique opportunities to explore different neighbourhoods and enjoy the best of London's nightlife.

Alongside the pulsating beats and dancing, they can embark on culinary adventures, savouring delicious meals that span a range of cuisines. Whether it's dancing until dawn or indulging in unique dining experiences, London promises students an unforgettable time in one of the world's most vibrant and culturally rich cities.

How to get where you want in london: transportation

Zones:

Like many big cities, London offers a great public transport service that connects all of the city's districts. But to know where to stay and how to get around, it's important to understand how London's areas work.

London occupies an area of 1,572 km² and is divided into 32 regions called “boroughs”. Each borough has its own coat of arms, flag and mayor.

The city was divided into 6 circular zones, with zone 1 being the center and zone 6 the outskirts of the city, so that it would be possible to calculate the price of the fare according to the distance that will be traveled by subway.

That is, the rate will vary according to the zones you will pass through.@Rafaela Lavrenski

The apps that will help you on this journey in London (literally) are: Citymapper, TLF Go, and Google Maps Choose what works best for you based on functionality and navigation. The 3 applications are extremely complete, they have almost all available options on how to get to the address you need, such as: Bus, underground, boat, walking, bycar, carapps.

The most important thing about using these apps to get around London is the notices of changes to transport services and routes that are currently taking place. London is a very dynamic city, so everything can happen at the same time, for that reason, a golden tip I give to you is: Even if you already know the way, always look at one of these apps beforeleavinghome, itwilldefinitelyavoidproblemsandwillmakesureyoualwaysarriveontime(Ifyouhaven'talreadylefthomelatehaha).

London's bus network is made up of almost 400 lines and over 15,000 stops, so finding your way around may not be that simple.

Although the best option is to look at the stop itself which are the lines that stop and their destination.

The timetable and frequency of the buses depend on the line and the day of the week. The most usual thing is that, like the underground, the main lines operate between 5:00 am and 12:00 am.

London is a city that never sleeps and the main bus lines run 24 hours a day.

In addition to the 24-hour lines, many day lines continue at night and are identified with the letter “N” (for example, bus 15 becomes N15). Unlike the 24-hour lines, the “N” lines can have small route modifications in relation to the daytime ones.

The frequency of London night buses depends on the day of the week. On Friday and Saturday nights, the gap between buses can be as little as 10 or 15 minutes.

Underground:

The London Underground has 11 lines, each with a name and colour, totaling 287 stations. The lines are:

Bakerloo (Brown), Center (Red), Circle (Yellow), District (Green), Hammersmith & City (Pink), Jubilee (Grey), Metropolitan (Magenta) Northern (Black), Piccadilly (Dark Blue), Victoria (Light Blue), Waterloo & City (Turquoise)

The London Underground runs from Monday to Friday from 6 am to midnight. On some lines, the first train departs at 5 am, but it only reaches zones 1 and 2 around 6 am. The same goes for the closure of operations, which depending on the season can happen before or after midnight.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the Victoria, Central, Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines operate 24 hours a day.

On Saturdays and Sundays there is a small decrease in trains running | Single ticket costs from £6.80
