A PA S S I O N FOR CR AFTMANSHIP W I T H G R E AT D E TA I L S A N D I N N O VAT I V E SOLUTIONS Stål & Form is charac terised by enthusiasts who love to create beautiful results. The recipe is ac tually ver y simple: The clients give their exclusive wishes, which Stål & Form then realises, produces, and supplies. But the process from beginning to end is of ten combined with complexity and calls for great knowledge of both materials and produc tion techniques – and not least the ex tensive needs of the clients.

This par ticular knowledge and experience has Stål & Form gained in the workshop in Odder. It is in this place that the pieces – via a combination of ef fec tive machiner y and solid handicraf t – undergo a true transformation and end up as beautiful componants with impressive forms and charac ter. It is here the many potentials are made real. Quite simple, this is what Stål & Form does. In both Denmark and abroad Stål & Form is known for supplying unique solutions to its clientele of architec ts, designers, and other feinschmeckers. Claus Sønderby has previously taken par t in the winning of ”Iværksæt terprisen” (the prize of entrepeneurship) in the municipality of Aarhus.

Sota Sushi Bar is placed in the hear t of Aarhus and is a modern Japanese restaurant. Exclusively decorated with plenty of eye-catching subtleties, which is no coincidence. Son Trinh is the co-owner of the restaurant and declares his love for excac tly these lit tle details – whether it applies to the produc ts in his kitchen or the interior. The restaurant’s logo is an elegant symbol of a fish, which is a recurring theme in the solutions produced by Stål & Form. I.e. the fish can be seen on the panels in the restaurant, on wall decorations in the basement, and in the rest rooms. Black steel with a rusty patina has been chosen as the main material. Finally the fish can be seen on the panels on the walls where there has been mounted a decoration in polished brass. O ther creative solutions from Stål & Form are hidden bot tle holders for the bar, where Sake bot tles are used as decoration. For the rest rooms paper towel holders have been produced in brushed steel. This is the third restaurant that Stål & Form ”decorates” in coorporation with Son Trinh. S TÅ L & F O R M

A N U N D E R S TA N D I N G OF FINESSES Son Trinh, who is the co-owner of Sota Sushi bar, is ver y excited about the coorporation with Stål & Form. This is foremost because Claus Sønderby understands how to carr y out and realize the, at times, crazy ideas that Son Trinh outlines. ”I can always call Claus, whenever I have an idea. He has the exper tise in materials and knows how things work in practice. It gives me great pleasure that he is so creative and quick to see potential”, says the owner of the restaurant. When the creative solution has been approved, Stål & Form continues working on the task until the produc t has been delivered and mounted. ”Claus has come to know my style and knows how I would like things”, Son Trinh points out.

CLIENTS ON THE SEVEN SEAS Stål & Form has many years of experience in supplying furniture and interior for super yachts via one of the world’s leading furniture designer within maritime decoration. It is a wide range consisting of exclusive products from bar stools and dining tables to dif ferent chairs with frames in polished steel or brass. The surfaces are so shiny that you can see your own reflec tion in them. In shor t, it is about exceptional furniture, where the expression is ever y thing. The furniture does not only need to be designed with beautiful details, it also needs to have solid surfaces, that can hold the tough weather conditions including heav y wind and salty water when placed on deck all year long. These are deliveries that are in the ver y high end grade quality-wise and promoted on the big oceans and in an exquisite categor y of marinas.

MOESGA ARD MUSEUM MAKES THE STONE AGE COME ALIVE

THE STONE AGE NOW IN 3D In Moesgaard Museums new permanent exhibition about the Stone Age, Stål & Form has supplied a somewhat special solution based on the newest technology. Wearing 3D-glasses the audiance can now take par t in a vir tual reality trip back to the Stone Age and experience how life was like back then. For instance you can see a tribal boat with hunters using fire to catch fish while you listen to the ocean and sense a thunder storm approaching.

Stål & Form has for several years been supplying Moesgaard Museum with various kinds of works. Moesgaard Museum is also known for their exhibition of the Grauballe Man. Since the museum has moved to new and larger locations, the supplies have increased. Exhibition architect, Ole Birch Nielsen promotes the coorporation with Stål & Form:

Stål & Form has constructed the ”frame” to the actual 3D-glasses, the rack for the head phones, and a number of turnable chairs in the section that the exhibition is built around. The 3D-glasses are CNC milled out from an entire block of aluminum. The proto type has been made layer upon layer as a 3D print.

”Claus is good at sparring when it comes to designs to be carried out, and the drafts need not to be well-prepared drawings. Claus is creative and always works within deadline. Quality and craftmanship at a high professional level are what characterise the outcome”, says Ole Birch Nielsen.

The rack for the head phones and the chairs have powder coated surfaces. However, the 3D-glasses are anodized and appear with a mat te black colour. The anodizing makes the surface six times as hard and thereby not as fragile towards heav y handling.

D E S I G N E D PAC K AG E SOLUTIONS

The museum gladly let in co-workers from Stål & Form after closing hours. ”They take good care of our effects and are ver y careful. We will definitely be continuing our coorporation”, states Ole Birch Nielsen.

T H E D E TA I L S A R E W H AT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE ”Previously young carpenter apprentices would travel from Scandinavia out in the world to experience and improve their skills. They are called Navers. Today our dedicated cabinet makers work with the same love for wood and carpentr y. But at Naver Collection we also seek new ways within tecniques, innovative materials, and design”. The quote is from Naver Collection that is being produced by Aksel Kjersgaard A / S in Odder and Gromrode furniture production A / S in Juelsminde. The pieces of furniture are all produced and designed in Denmark and sold to customers worldwide. Naver Collec tion is thereby holding their banner high regards to craf tmanship and quality. Several pieces of the furniture are combined with frames, legs, and handles in brushed steel. These are of ten customized solutions produced by Stål & Form. S TÅ L & F O R M

SIMPLE AND O U T STA N D I N G The AK 700 from Naver Collec tion is a modern version of the classical teatrolley that can be used ever ywhere. The wheeled teatrolley is designed with a solid table top and a permanent laminate tray. The frame is produced by Stål & Form in stainless steel and appears both elegant and simple. Together with architec t Ebbe Gehl, Stål & Form has been deeply involved in the process leading to the wheeled teatrolley. The coorporation includes choice of materials and produc tion methods, for instance how the joinings will get the most dignified look. In that way Stål & Form has made the proto type. Hereaf ter height, balances, look, and func tionality are evaluated, whereupon Stål & Form has produced precise tools based on 3D drawings for the fur ther frame produc tion in the workshop in Odder. The tools ensure both a rational production and that the furniture becomes completely identical.

THE BLUEPRINT Stål & Form is a trustworthy partner. So says Jørgen Kjersgaard, owner of Aksel Kjergaard A /S – one half of Naver Collection: ”The fabrication of our furniture is often complicated, but Stål & Form always contributes with innovative and creative solutions. Like us, Stål & Form takes pride in their work all the way down to the smallest detail, and therefore we highly recomend the company to others.”

INDO R E STAU R A N T I N T H E H E A RT OF AARHUS

I N S P I R AT I O N F R O M T H E M E T R O P O L E S OF A SIA – WITH A TOUCH OF DANISH INDO has its roots in the Asian kitchen with inspiration from the European continent. On the menu you will therefore also find Danish products – especially seasonal vegetables. This combination recurs in the decoration, where modern light interiour by far dominates the restaurant – but with a dark and prominent bar as a contrast. Stål & Form has produced the bar in black steel, which appears with a raw and warm rusty patina. On the one corner of the bar the four let ters in INDO are cut upright in a creative and rustical way, while 8000 Aarhus has been been cut horizontically in floor height on the right side of the front.

CO N STRUCTIVE DIALOGUE Son Trinh is the co-owner of Indo, which is placed in the same street as Sota Sushi Bar, in Aarhus. About the longstanding coorporation with Stål & Form, he says: ”Claus Sønderby is good at catching my detail-oriented ideas and is able to quickly see how things can be realised and set in motion. In that way we always reach ver y constructive and satisf ying results”.

In addition Stål & Form has supplied the restaurant with a wine rack and holders for the menus as well as some distinct and ar tistic boards for the decoration of the walls. They are soundreducing boards that are divided into fields and elegantly decorated with birds. S TÅ L & F O R M

WIZARDS IN THE WORKSHOP The co-workers at Stål & Form all have in common that they are ex tremely dedicated to their work, and that they love professional challenges.

WORLD-CL ASS CRAFTMANSHIP

The work includes the handling of brass, stainless steel, copper, and aluminum which are of ten ”welded” together with materials such as wood, stone, and glass. The work takes place in groups where ever ybody helps each other out. In the workshop the co-workers combine produc tion techniques such as CNC-milling, welding, grinding, and polishing as well as the finishing surface treatment. And it is not a truism when the co-workers argue that the surfaces must be exquisite to touch. Stål & Form prac tices Danish craf tmanship at its best, which is also what Denmark is known for worldwide. S TÅ L & F O R M
