SERVE OTHERS CURRENT NEED STUDENT MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS Each week, over 150 middle school and high school students come to learn about Jesus, find community, and seek a safe space where they can be who they are without judgment. The aim is for students to grow to love God, love others, and love themselves. Our hope is that they will be transformed by the Gospel, engaged in meaningful faithforming relationships, activated as change-agents in their communities, and developed into spiritual leaders. But, we can’t do this without your help. We’re in need of 10 more small group leaders for our student ministries groups. If you’re interested in serving, contact heather.kenison@ stlukesumc.com with questions or to sign up to serve. BACK TO SCHOOL EXTRAVAGANZA NOW – JULY 24 In Washington Township, over 40% of kids are registered for free and reduced lunch and struggle to get the supplies they need to start the school year strong. That’s why St. Luke’s started Back to School Extravaganza and Adopt A Classroom where we provide over 4,200 students - that’s every single elementary student who receives free or reduced lunch - with every item on their school supply list as well as school supply support throughout the academic year. And this year, we will also extend our reach by adopting classrooms Kenya via our outreach partner UMOJA. Our support will provide food, books, uniforms, and school supplies for Kenyan elementary students for the entire academic year. Sign up and give at stlukesumc.com/ backtoschool.

ORDER OF WORSHIP TRADITIONAL SERVICE

Prelude Spiritual Medley St. Luke’s Orchestra; Dr. Charles Goehring, organ Welcome and Call to Worship Rev. Rob Fuquay LEADER: We come to worship today, many overburdened with the demands of life, we come to this place in search of rest. ALL: May we find here the strength to work for justice. LEADER: Forgiveness can be elusive and anger can be justified, but too often we settle for the sweet fleeting fruit of revenge. ALL: May we find here the patience to embody mercy. LEADER: Deluded by the world in which we live where power and prestige and money is seen as a just reward, we miss the Spirit’s call to a life grounded in humility. ALL: May we find here the wisdom to walk in the Spirit. Opening Hymn O Spirit of the Living God #539 Prayer of Confession and Assurance Dr. Regina Proctor ALL: God of Justice and Mercy, we have fallen silent when we should have spoken up. We have ignored the cries of the innocent and joined the crowds in calls of judgment. We have mistaken justice for revenge and have sought punishment to ease our pain. We do not see our own faults, our own sins, and we do not hold ourselves responsible for our inactions and injustices. Restore us, God, to the ways Jesus taught us, to drop

our stones and instead seek forgiveness and restoration instead of revenge. Call us into the paths of love and reconciliation, knowing Your mercy extends to all of us. (Silent Confession) LEADER: Hear the good news - God opens our ears and our hearts to know God’s love and forgiveness. There is nothing we need to do other than love one another and love God, for all things come from God’s love. Know that you have been forgiven and you are restored to God. Amen. Anthem Still, My Soul, Be Still – Keith and Kristyn Getty, and Stuart Townend; arr. Mary McDonald Chancel Choir; St. Luke’s Orchestra; Dr. Jeff Rogers, director Prayer Time and the Lord’s Prayer Dr. Regina Proctor Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
