Mark E. Roubinek Breakfast The Most Important Meal of the Day!

Wednesday, May 10, 2017 Join children and adults around the nation to celebrate the benefits of bicycling and walking by encouraging your student to walk or bike to school for "National Bike to School Day" on Wednesday, May 10th. We will have meeting locations for students to meet at 7:40 a.m. and then go to school as a "bike bus." We will also have law enforcement placed at two locations...one to cross Highway 74 near the laundromat and Greenway gas station and the other to cross Highway 14 near Kwik Trip/Good Sport/Chiropractor. A staff member from the school will be escorting the students to school in the morning. The route will drop students at the elementary school first and then head to the high school. After school, there will not be a staff member to escort the students but law enforcement will be at the same locations to assist with crossing the highways. We encourage the students to use the same route that the staff member led them on in the morning.

The number of breakfasts served at both schools has increased over the last couple of years. At the high school, we served an average of 38 students in 2014-15, this year, we are serving an average of 72.

Elementary School News Food Service-Taste Testing

St. Charles Elementary School students had the opportunity to taste test mangoes and high school students taste tested guacamole, hummus, and a variety of beverages. Funds are made possible as part of the SHIP (Statewide Health Improvement Partnership) program and allow for three taste test opportunities this spring. The beverages sampled may be sold at concessions and Saints Snack in the future. Students completed surveys to indicate whether they “liked” or “disliked” the new items. Foods that receive a good review will be introduced to the lunch program and/or concessions.

Class of 2018 ~ College Visits & Senior Planning A campus visit is a great opportunity to have a firsthand look at a college campus. It is important to walk around campus, view dorm rooms, sit in classrooms and take other chances to explore before making a postsecondary choice. It is suggested that students begin visiting colleges during their junior year and continue into fall of their senior year. If a student is planning to go on a college visit during a school day, prior approval is needed and the following form found on the school website will need to be completed. http://www.scschools.net/page/4513 As the school year draws to an end, the class of 2018 should be taking steps to prepare themselves for their post-secondary journeys. There are some important steps along the way to help ensure the easiest transition post-secondary. To assist, a senior timeline can be found on the school website at: http://www.scschools.net/page/4381
