You’ve already learnt the first steps in plastering, and have had plenty of practice. Now, because you want to increase your skills, you will learn in more detail about fixing dry lining and plasterboard products to interiors, and producing plaster components.

Practical carpentry and joinery skills are in high demand and our hands-on course will develop your basic skills further. We will expand and improve your planning, managing and organising skills, and show you how to avoid work-related accidents and taking unnecessary risks. You will learn how to get along with many different people in different situations, particularly when under pressure and working to deadlines.

What do I need to get on the course?

Four GCSEs at grades D-F (including English and maths) and a level 1 diploma. See page 10 for alternative entry requirements.

What does the course involve?

The main subjects covered are: • contributing to planning, organisation, monitoring and control • evaluation of operational activities • maintaining working conditions and operational activities to meet quality standards.

You will be assessed under simulated working conditions within the construction workshops, classrooms and the College’s construction site. There will also be an externally set exam at the end of the course.

The main subjects covered include: • carrying out safe working practices • information, quantities and communicating with others • building methods and construction technology • carrying out first fixing operations • carrying out second fixing operations • erecting structural carcassing • carrying out maintenance • setting up and operating a circular saw.

What do I need to get on the course?

This qualification will enhance your employment opportunities and enable you to progress to an appropriate level 3 course at the College, or an advanced Apprenticeship. Level: 2 Start date: Sept Duration: 1 year Course code: DIP2

You will be continually assessed to the industrial standards set by the lead body, Construction Skills, and sit an external end of course exam.
