Student funding support
The Student Funding team offers information, advice and guidance about a wide range of funds to help you start your course. The team can also help you apply for funds and loans that may be available to assist with the costs of books and essential equipment for your course, together with travel, childcare costs and emergency hardship. There are various funds available. For more information please call 01752 305381/305110 or e-mail studentfunding@cityplym.ac.uk.
Childcare
As a parent, you may find that juggling family life with study can be tricky. We want to support you so you can enjoy your studies and be a responsible parent to your child. The College runs two ‘outstanding’ nurseries and a kids’ club. Both our nurseries were judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in our last inspections in 2007. For full inspection reports visit the Ofsted website - www.ofsted.gov.uk. For further details or to request an application form, please contact Curious Kittens on 01752 305060/305345 or e-mail curiouskittensnursery@cityplym.ac.uk.
Travelling to College
As part of the College’s Transport Strategy, students are encouraged, if possible, to walk, cycle or take public transport to and from College to reduce their impact on the environment. Students from Devon (mainly the Ivybridge, Kingsbridge and Tavistock areas), and Cornwall (mainly the Launceston, Liskeard and Looe areas) will be able to buy a subsidised travel pass, which can be used on a number of public bus services. In addition, the College operates a free bus that runs between the city centre, Goschen and Kings Road. Students aged 16-18 have to apply to their respective county council in the first instance and only if declined, can then purchase the relevant pass from the College. If you are aged 16-18 and live within the Plymouth city boundaries, you may be entitled to a subsidised bus pass from the College depending on your home address and household income. Discounted travel is also available from Citybus for full-time students aged under 23 who live within the Plymouth city boundaries. All students can also receive a 10% discount on Citybus student rider tickets. For more information visit www.plymouthbus.co.uk. For further travel information, please contact the Student Services team on 01752 305803, or visit www.cityplym.ac.uk/travel.
