Teaching - Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) Level 7 (Awarded by Plymouth University) What’s it all about? The PGCE (incorporating the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) leads to full qualification as a teacher in the post-compulsory sector. It comprises a blend of theory and practice, with the emphasis on practice. The course is a part-time, in-service teacher training programme. The curriculum covers teaching and learning, assessment, CPD and a range of other modules designed to augment the role of a teacher in the lifelong learning sector. The course is mapped to the professional standards for teachers in the sector.

In order to be successful on this course you will need: ooa degree in any subject oo teaching practice in the post-compulsory sector: for example FE teaching, sixth form teaching and/ or adult and community training (applicants must arrange their own teaching practice) oo a minimum of level 2 skills (GCSE grade C) in literacy/English.

How will I be assessed? Assessment is via eight teaching practice observations and four extended module assignments.
What next? On achieving the award you can undertake professional formation to achieve Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS), which is the licence to practise for teachers in the post-compulsory sector. Following successful completion of this course you may also progress to an MA in Education.
