SWITCH the Con is the only ticket that will prioritise the needs of students studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is committed to provide both increased services and greater representation to its students. STUDENT SERVICES & CENTRALISATION The past few years have seen a dramatic decrease in student services available onsite to Conservatorium students, which is particularly visible through the removal of administrative services and diminishing psychological and counselling support. This is a result of the University of Sydney’s restructuring towards a more centralised system, but has occurred in spite of the fact that enrolments in degrees at the Conservatorium continue to increase year on year and there has been great expansion into other degree areas of specialisation, such as contemporary and improvised music. This has resulted in a crisis whereby a growing pool of students is receiving increasingly fewer services. SWITCH the Con will push to prioritise the resolution of this issue and bring it to the forefront of discussion.

I am actively involved in campus life at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I have served for two years on the Conservatorium Students’ Association executive, first as social co-ordinator and currently serving as President, and I am passionate about bringing increased services to Conservatorium students.

BW Switch for Critical Thought POLICY STATEMENT

I shall never cease from the practice and teaching of philosophy, exhorting anyone whom I meet after my manner, and convincing them, saying: O my friend, why do you who are a citizen of the great and mighty and wise city of Athens, care so much about laying up the greatest amount of money and honour and reputation, and so little about wisdom and truth and the greatest improvement of the soul, which you never regard or heed at all? Are you not ashamed of this? And if the person with whom I am arguing says: Yes, but I do care: I do not depart or let them go at once; I interrogate and examine and cross-examine them, and if I think that they have no virtue, but only say that they have, I reproach them with overvaluing the greater, and undervaluing the less. For the inexperienced in wisdom and virtue, ever occupied with feasting and such, are carried downward, and there, as is fitting, they wander their whole life long, neither ever looking upward to the truth above them nor rising toward it, nor tasting pure and lasting pleasures. Like cattle, always looking downward with their heads bent toward the ground and the banquet tables, they feed, fatten, and fornicate. In order to increase their possessions they kick and butt with horns and hoofs of steel and kill each other, insatiable as they are. As such, please: VOTE [1] SWITCH for CRITICAL THOUGHT VOTE [1] SWITCH for NUS VOTE [1] Liam for Prez CANDIDATES

REPRESENTATION The Conservatorium lacks legitimate representation, particularly when it comes to the Student’ Representative Council, with no current student being a sitting member. SWITCH the Con seeks to remedy this by providing Conservatorium students with an authentic voice on the council to further their interests. This voice is particularly crucial in the wake of actions this past year by members of the SRC that sought to disestablish voting booths
