A MESSAGE FROM BETHLEHEM CENTRAL SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS JODY MONROE
erseverance. Patience. Grit. These are all words that have been used to describe the Class of 2021. And they are true. Members of the senior class have had their high school experience eclipsed by the unthinkable. And we have asked so much of them: to keep others safe by following the strictest of rules and to display maturity beyond their years when doing so. And yet each one of them carried on with their heads held high, their masks on, and their futures somehow in focus. On June 25, this class will have the opportunity to celebrate together with a graduation ceremony that will include the entire class. With all required health and safety protocols in place, it will be a welcome return to “normal” for them, and for us.
While this ceremony may not look exactly like those of the past, one tradition is returning. The class has chosen teachers who are special Jody Monroe to them to escort them in and out of the graduation ceremony. These “graduation marshals” were nominated by the students for having had the most significant impact on their education journey so far. They include teachers from elementary, middle and high school.
SELECTED TO BE FACULTY GRADUATION MARSHALS FOR THE CLASS OF 2021 ARE:
• Kristi Malsan - Eagle Elementary School, Grade 5
• Michael Waldenmaier - Hamagrael Elementary School, Grade 5 • Lester Betor - Slingerlands Elementary School, Grade 5 • Evan Harley - Bethlehem Central Middle School
• Cori DiFabbio - Bethlehem Central Middle School, Music • Jeffrey Mongue - Bethlehem Central Middle School, Math
• Megan Jackson - Bethlehem Central Middle School, English • Eileen Turo - Bethlehem Central High School, English
• Jessica Weimer - Bethlehem Central High School, Social Studies • Durray Mahmood - Bethlehem Central High School, Math
• Matthew Rehbit - Bethlehem Central High School, Physical Education • Nick Ferguson - Bethlehem Central High School, Social Studies
This group of educators is a distinguished one, representing countless faculty and staff who have contributed in their own ways to prepare these students for success in the future. What they probably didn’t realize is that they were also preparing this generation to endure one of the most challenging times in modern history. In meeting this challenge with the perseverance, patience and grit these seniors are now known for, this class has redefined the meaning of success not just for themselves but for all of us.
Congratulations to the BCHS Class of 2021!
• Michael Valenti - Elsmere Elementary School, Grade 5
• Laurie Nolan - Glenmont Elementary School, Physical Education
