Have fun kayaking both on and in the water with Jersey Kayak Adventures, the island’s British Canoe Union (BCU), Adventuremark, EcoActive, and Green Tourism GOLD approved centre. JKA also won the Jersey Enterprise Environment award in 2013. Our sit-on-top kayaks are versatile and fun craft which allow rapid progression and build confidence. We also offer the opportunity to gain BCU Paddle-Power certificates. To encourage children’s maximum enjoyment we introduce young people to paddle sports by using correctly sized youth wetsuits, kayaks

and paddles. Our courses operate with a narrow age range, so your child gets a better experience with other like minded children. All courses run with qualified and experienced kayak staff afloat, who have undergone Police checks. Each course aims to operate from different venues during the week to allow for weather conditions and give a different experience of the coastline. Maximum of 10 children with two staff. Monday 18 August & Tuesday 19 August Wednesday 20 August & Thursday 21 August Thursday 28 August – Saturday 30 August

Beginners will initially learn to sail using single-handed dinghies. Using single-handers allows students to learn at a faster rate, whilst giving them a tremendous sense of achievement. Sailing these small boats involves getting wet and capsize is inevitable, if not by accident, then during practice! However, safety boat cover is always at hand with qualified staff to help, when necessary. Getting wet is part of the fun for people and all students always wear a buoyancy aid afloat, and where appropriate, a wetsuit, both of which we supply. All training at the centre is under the supervision of an R.Y.A Senior Instructor and directly controlled by R.Y.A. qualified instructors, who are trained powerboat operators and also hold First Aid certificates. Not being able to swim does not exclude you from these courses, but you must declare it on your application form. If you haven’t sailed a dinghy before, you should apply for a stage 1 course. If you already have the stage 1 certificate, or you have a fair bit of dinghy sailing experience, then apply for a stage 2 course. You can apply for more than one course providing you take them in the correct progressive order, i.e. stage 2 course before a stage 3 course, etc. However, it may be too ambitious to try to go from a stage 1 course to a stage 3 course in your first year.

All our dinghy sailing courses for the under 18’s are priced at £48 for 2 day courses and £65.50 for 3 day courses. This course price does not include purchasing a logbook. You will find the logbook a useful aid to your training and these are available on the course, currently priced at £3.70. If you are successful in getting all sections of your logbook signed by your instructor you will be awarded a certificate. Although most people are successful in gaining their stage 1 certificate, as you progress through stage 2, stage 3 and beyond, you may not gain all the required skills during one short course to be awarded your certificate. Don’t worry, as this is not unusual and you can always complete it on another course. Please bring: A complete change of clothing including shorts, t-shirt, sweat shirt, swim wear, and old trainers or wet suit boots/crocs etc, (no flip flops) and a towel. A hat is also a good idea. We will provide a wetsuit when needed, but if you have your own, please bring it. We will also provide a buoyancy aid, but you may bring your own. You will also need to bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink, but avoid fizzy drinks. It is useful to take a small snack and bottle of water with you in the boat. Finally, make sure that you bring (and use) sun block, as you will burn very easily. Please meet: Instructors will meet students for all sailing courses in front of the Royal Channel Islands Yacht club at St Aubin.
