peter downie and bride tam’s wedding experience is a Banyan classic THE Banyan Golf Club hosted the wedding ceremony and celebration party for Khun Wichida (Tam) and Peter Downie, General Manager of Sentosa Golf Club, Singapore, home to the prestigious $6 million Barclay’s Singapore Open. The wedding day began in the early morning with a traditional Buddhist monk ceremony in a private Thai sala overlooking the golf course on the second floor and was attended by Peter and Khun Wichida’s close friends and family. It was great to see Mike Tracey, Emirates Golf Club’s men’s captain, Elliot Gray, General Manager of Arabian Ranches, who was Peter’s best man, and Kevin Hind from Clearwater Bay in Hong Kong. Among the guests were many other golf industry professionals based in Asia and China. Later in the afternoon, the beautiful Thai tradition of “water pouring” was conducted at the end of the Clubhouse main walkway. The golf course provided a sensational backdrop as the Asian sun set over the Burmese mountains. Peter and Khun Wichida’s family and friends celebrated long into the early hours at the Terrace restaurant, where the food and beverage team had prepared a lavish international dining experience. Live entertainment was provided by Mark James, the musician who performs on the Spike Bar patio during the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters and the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

simon messenger wins Brunel international corporate golf day BANyAN Golf Club, Hua Hin, was the host venue for Brunel International’s corporate golf tournament last month. Brunel has developed into an international group with over 8,000 employees and operates from an international network of more than 90 branch offices in over 30 countries and the company’s global managers were invited to Hua Hin to compete in their annual golf event. The two-day golf tournament was a full handicap Stableford competition and it was 14-handicapper Simon Messenger who took home the honours after defeating Bobby Brownfiel in a card countback. Both scored 57 points but it was Messenger who was victorious after his superior finish. Annette Van Veen finished in outright third place, three points behind the winning total. Brunel International’s CEO, Jan Arie Van Barneveld, said: “It was great to host this year’s tournament here at Banyan Golf Club. The event was very well organised and enjoyed by all participants. The golf course was prepared and set up to provide a fair test of golf for all players and we are looking forward to staging our event again at Banyan Golf Club, Hua Hin, in 2011.” www.wwgolf.biz
