News and Notes

VS Snow Day Flurries of flakes and goals is how the Rangers opened their 2018 USL season at Reno 1868 FC on Saturday, March 17. The first half of the game saw many chances for both sides, however Reno led at the half 1-0. As the snow picked up pace so did the goal scoring. With poor visibility and close to white-out conditions, the teams played on turning the second half into a high-scoring afair. Hadji Barry scored a goal and added two assists in his Swope Park Rangers debut, while Kharlton Belmar played a part in all four Rangers goals. Belmar locked in the game-winning strike in the 92nd minute, making his statsheet for the night read two goals and two assists which propelled him to be named USL Player of the Week.

History Was Made The Rangers season opener at Reno 1868 FC was the first time in club history for the team to win after conceding the first goal on the road and the first time to win when trailing at the half on the road. Paulo Nagamura picked up his first win as a head coach. With his two goals in the March 17 game at Reno 1868 FC, Kharlton Belmar became SPR’s joint all-time leading scorer.
