How to remember those who passed on Thanksgiving
Can I still celebrate without a loved one during a holiday? by Sabrina N. Young, CFSP SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton Member and Owner of Young’s Daughters Funeral Home and Bereavement Center
Holidays can be the hardest times for families that have lost their loved ones. While these times can be difficult to deal with, we can still remember them. These are some ways we can remember a loved one during the holidays.
Making their Favorite Dish
We all remember their favorite foods during Thanksgiving. Maybe it was Grandma’s delectably juicy turkey or Mom’s delicious homemade pumpkin cheesecake. Still we can make and eat these dishes in remembrance of them.
Set Up a Memorial in Honor of Them There are many ways to remember a loved one during Thanksgiving. Setting up a memorial is a common way to express remembrance. You can light a candle and set up a couple of your favorite photos of your loved ones around it. You can add anything you want to the memorial as well, such as a plate of their favorite dish, their favorite hat or shirt that they always wore, or a few of their favorite flowers.
Talk it Out
During the holidays, we can still talk about and remember our loved ones. Whether it’s while you’re cooking or setting up the dinner table, you can tell stories of their life. Laughing with your family members of your loved ones’ lives is a healthy way to express your grief and mixed emotions.
These are all ways to create new memories and help everyone through the grief process. While they can be difficult times to deal with, we can all get through it together.
