Lodge 8, Weimar members enjoy holiday meal Lodge 8, Weimar members met Monday, November 22, 2021, at Oakridge Smokehouse in Schulenburg, Texas, for their holiday meal and meeting. President Henrietta Veselka called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. Earlene Lorfing led the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed for our departed member, Anton Machacek, a very faithful member of Lodge 8, Weimar and the entire SPJST organization. State Fraternal Director Frank Horak led our prayer. A delicious dinner, compliments of Lodge 8,Weimar, was then enjoyed. Nine members and guests, plus State Fraternal Director Frank Horak, were in attendance. All officers were present. Minutes of the August 23 meeting were in the September 27 Vestnik. Earlene Lorfing made a motion, seconded by Melvin Tobola, to accept the minutes as
printed in the Vestnik. Motion carried. Arlene Marshall made a motion, seconded by Earlene Lorfing, to accept the treasurer’s report as presented. Motion carried. Correspondence was read from the Ronald McDonald House in Temple thanking Lodge 8 for the pull tabs collected and given to Ronald McDonald House of Temple. Correspondence was also read from the Home Office concerning insurance certificates. Henrietta handed out brochures concerning marketing and promotions, namely membership referral card, membership benefits, annuities, youth program, and life insurance. Under old business, Henrietta, Arlene Marshall, and Carolyn went to Parkview Manor Nursing Center in Weimar to present a $100 check to Parkview Manor Activity Director Tammy Vincent for their activity fund. The pull tabs that were collected will be taken to Ronald McDonald House in Temple by Frank. The fall meeting, scheduled for September 26, 2021, at the Community Center in Victoria was canceled due to
Lodge 6, Cottonwood welcomes new member Lodge 6, Cottonwood is proud to announce its new member, baby Kove Dobecka. Baby Kove is pictured in the arms of his mother, Whitney Dobecka, and with his big sister Aubrianna. They are all members of Lodge 6, Cottonwood. —Submitted by Jeanette Beseda

the Covid pandemic. Under new business, Henrietta reported on the 100 Pennies Scholarship Fund Drive which is from now until March 31, 2022. Scholarship applications can be found online. For further information, please check the Vestnik. Also, watch the Vestnik for information on the annual meeting. The date and location is currently undecided. It was suggested to move our meetings to daytime. Arlene made a motion, seconded by Earlene, to move our meeting to 12 noon at Oakridge Smokehouse. Motion carried. Melvin then made a motion, Earlene seconded, to have the lodge provide the meals, depending on funds. Motion carried. Officers were then reelected. The vice president’s position remains open at this time. Erline Janik was reported on the sick list. Rosie Shumbera is in Regency Nursing Center in Schulenburg. Birthdays for the past three months were Frank Horak - September 4, Luther Lorfing - October 25, and Joan Machacek - November 13. Anniversaries were Luther and Earlene Lorfing - eight years on November 30, and Frank and Connie Horak - 27 years on November 19. Thank you, Frank, for the door prizes. Luther went home with the calculator; Melvin with the flashlight; David Machacek won the apron; Joan Machacek won the notebook; Earlene a flashlight; and Joe Marshall was the lucky winner of a flashlight and pen set. Lodge 18, Elgin to host January, February dances District Two Director Jesse Pospisil installed the officers at Lodge 18, Elgin at the December meeting. All officers and trustees were reelected. It’s so sad that the Covid pandemic has us all distancing and staying home again. Just as things were getting better, here comes the new version of Covid. When does this stop? We have to remember that this is like the flu was years ago. We got that under control with vaccines. I think that is the way with Covid. Here is wishing all to stay safe and healthy in the New Year 2022. The officers reelected are: President David Meyer Vice President/FAC Mike Mogonye Secretary/Treasurer Charles Wilson Reporter Irene Vrabel The trustees were also reelected. They are F.L. Meyer, Jeanette Peterson, Charles Wilson, Mike Mogonye, and David Meyer. Dances are not well attended so the bands are struggling to keep playing. Our local musicians need our help so
