Why Car Buyers All Over America Are So Jealous Of Jefferson County Ford Buyers. Especially Every March.

Better Read This Now To Avoid Overpaying By Hundreds, Even Thousands, For Your Next Ford.

Fact is car buyers in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia and all the other 47 United States have been jealous of Jefferson County’s Ford buyers for 46 years. Why? Because Jefferson County Ford buyers are lucky enough to live just minutes from “America’s Ford Legend.” The one and only Parsons Ford-Lincoln. Why the jealousy? Because for 46 years Parsons Ford has guaranteed IN WRITING to beat the lowest Ford sale prices of any dealer in the entire country. That means that no matter where you live in the United States you can’t buy a Ford ANYWHERE for as little as they can buy the exact same Ford at Parsons Ford. But then comes March, and Parsons drops the guaranteed lowest prices in America even further during their Annual March End-Of-Winter Total Lot-Wide Inventory Clearout to make room for spring shipments already on their way. The chance Ford buyers enjoy every March to buy any Ford you want for hundreds, even THOUSANDS less than many all over the country will pay for the same exact Ford car or truck. But remember, March comes along just once a year. Already two-thirds gone, this once-a-year event absolutely ends March 31 at 5 PM sharp! Want to buy any Ford you want for hundreds, often THOUSANDS less than many all over America will pay for the same exact Ford? You still can. But only if you HURRY!

BOYS

By Bob Madison Two times could become three at Jefferson High. The Cougars have been the state Class AAA champions in boy’s track and field in both 2010 and in 2011. And with the wealth of talented returnees on this year’s roster, a healthy Jefferson team in mid-May could again be favored to win a third straight team title. In 2011, the Cougars amassed 98.5 points to repeat their previous year’s championship. Cabell Midland will again be bolstered by its distance runners. The Ona-based school finished second to Jefferson last year with its 80 points. The Cougars had points from many segments of their team in winning last year’s state championship. Sprinter Dante Price was only a sophomore in 2011, yet he won both the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints in Charleston. Price was BOYS continued on Page 9

GIRLS

By Bob Madison The Jefferson girl’s track and field team finished third at the 2011 Class AAA state meet in Charleston. The key seniors on that team were the versatile Chelsea Bryan, shot putter Kiana Weller, and distance runner Lindsey Hash. It was in the relays where Jefferson gleaned most of its points at the state meet. The 4x400 relay finished second in Charleston and the underclass runners on that unit were Desiree McCarroll, Brooke Fadeley, and Bryanna Doughty. The shuttle hurdles relay team was also second at the state meet. The underclass members of that team were Mariah Lukens, Amanda Stoner, and Allison Thomas. Jefferson was third in the 4x200 relay and had on that four-person team Doughty, Thomas, McCarroll, and Alanna Baylor. With Kaitlyn Clark, McCarroll, Baylor, and senior Bryan as team members, the Lady Cougars were fourth in the 4x100 sprint relay. GIRLS continued on Page 9 5

BOYS By Bob Madison In 2011 at the Class AAA boys state track and field meet in Charleston, pole vaulter Roland Rush gave Washington High an individual champion when he cleared 13-feet-six inches to win the pole vault. Rush was a senior last spring and can’t help the Patriots this year. Washington also had competitive sprint relay teams that were able to score points even in the largest and most meaningful meets. Josh Robins, Greg Hawk, Paul Cassell, and Tyler Brandenburg teamed well to earn points in the 4x200

relay. In the longest of the sprint relays -- the 4x400 -- the Patriots also were able to garner points in the large and important meets toward the end of the 2011 season. The youngest of those 4x400 relay members were Sam Ward, Wayne Snow, and Daniel Boucher. Other than Rush in the pole vault, the Patriots were thin in point-producers in the other field events -- high jump, long jump, discus, and shot put. The distance events -- 800 meters, 1,600 meters, and 3,200 meters -- also proved to be lean events in the number of individuals and the number of points BOYS continued on Page 11

By Bob Madison The highlight of the girls track and field season at Washington High came at the state meet in Charleston when sprinters Jenay Grant, Devyn Hosby, Nikki Ashbaugh, and Emily Lorenzen teamed as a unit to win the 4x400 relay. Those four runners also competed in the shorter sprints

and in the shorter relays during the regular season and at the Region II meet. Grant and Lorenzen were 2011 seniors. Hosby was consistent in scoring points in the shortest of sprints even at the largest meets on Washington’s schedule. She ran in the 400 meter sprint at the state meet. a team member as Jefferson placed second in the 4x100 relay and was second again in the 4x200 relay at the state meet. Tyler Lambert was fifth in the 200 meters in Charleston. Ashton LaiFang competed at the state meet. Jefferson’s distance corps is headed by Eric Graf, who was fourth in the 1,600 meters, fourth in the 3,200 meters, and ninth in the 800 meters in Charleston. Graf has signed a grant-in-aid to attend Oklahoma beginning in the fall. Sam Munnis was eighth in ther 3,200 and 10th in the 1,600. Jefferson won the 4x400 relay in Charleston. Its 4x800 relay group was second and current junior Ryan Graf was a runner on that unit.

GIRLS

In the hurdles at the state meet, senior Ashton Hyler was fourth in the 300, Lane Simpson was seventh in the 100 high hurdles, and Curtis Chiswell was 14th in the 300. Jefferson used those three runners as part of the shuttle hurdles relay team that was third at the state meet. Warren Gray was a member of the points-earning shuttle hurdles relay team. The state meet also saw high jumper Jordan Hardiman finish sixth when he cleared 5-foot-10. Barring injuries that prevent any individual(s) from participating in the Region II meet or the state meet, Jefferson has another top-caliber team that could accomplish a rare feat by winning a third consecutive modern-day state track and field team championship.

Continued from Page 5

A 12th-place finish was Jefferson’s fate in the 4x800 relay in Charleston. Malika Briggs, McCarroll, and Fadeley ran there along with senior Hash. It was Clark who had Jefferson’s best finish in any individual event when she placed second in the pole vault by clearing nine-feet. Fadeley cleared eight-feet but was unplaced. Kenya Price cleared 4-foot-9 in the high jump at the state meet but didn’t earn any points for her finish. Thomas participated in the 100-meter hurdles, but her 10th-place showing in the trials didn’t get

her to the finals. Jefferson didn’t have anybody in the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,600, or 3,200 running events at the state meet. The Lady Cougars will be participating in the Gazette Relays at Laidley Field in Charleston on April 27 and 28. Other large meets in Jefferson’s future are the Dwight Scott (Boonsboro), Don Boyer (Middletown, Md.), The Journal Invitational (Martinsburg), and the Potomac Valley Conference Meet. Jefferson opens the season when it hosts the Jim Taylor Relays on Saturday, March 24.

Another sprinter with consistent point-producing efforts was Miyisha Hosby, who often vied with her older cousin, Jasmyn, now a statecontending sprinter at Martinsburg High. Another versatile perfomer in 2011 was Heather Reynolds. Erica Thomas also provided the Patriots with a number of points-earning efforts last season. Last year’s better distance runners were Rhina Murillo, Vivian Ruiz, and Tatiana Morales. Kelsey Simmers was Washington’s best pole vaulter a year ago. Washington’s schedule begins with the annual Jim Taylor Relays at Jefferson High. That meet is on Saturday, March 24. The Potomac Valley Conference Meet will be staged at Jefferson High on May 5 and then nearly a week later the Class AAA, Region II Meet will take place on Friday, May 11 at the all-weather track at Jefferson High. On Wednesday, March 28, the Patriots will host one of the two home meets they have scheduled in 2012. The only other home meet comes on Wednesday, April 25 when Hedgesville visits for a dual meet. Washington will compete in the Berkeley Springs Invitational on March 31, the Dwight Scott Invitational at Boonsboro High on April 7, Spring Sports Preview 2012

the Don Stoner Invitational at Smithsburg (Md.) By Bob Madison Even in its fourth year, Washington High still has a growing and maturing baseball program. Last year’s team had a core of starting seniors that helped the Patriots finish over .500 for the first time. Coach Mark Hash had seven 2011 graduates with prominent roles last year. Pitchers Robbie Reynolds and John Rickards were important. And both of them played other positions when not on the mound. Catcher Trey Fields was a long-time starter. Infielders Timmy Hostler

and Dillon Wilt as well as right-fielder Nick Burgess have now graduated. Outfielder Jonah DeSimone was another senior starter on the 2011 edition. Even though he will be without Rickards and Reynolds, Hash has more starting pitching than most high schools. Ryan Pansch has a reliable, strikeout-producing fastball. Almost all of his pitching innings last season came in the last two weeks. He batted .446 in the Patriots’ first 20 games. Regular shortstop Austin Larcomb also started about seven games on the mound. He batted .459 before

the Sectional tournament losses that eliminated Washington from the postseason. Larcomb is playing first base this year. Sophomore Jared Silva could just break onto the area scene as a consistent winner. He started infrequently in 2011 and was used mainly in relief. Silva is also an outfielder with the potential to be a starter out there. Sophomore Colin Gustines was the shortstop when

By Bob Madison When Jefferson High brought home a 10th baseball state championship to wrap up the careers of its many seniors -- Logan Johnson, Tanner Everton, Cody Johnson, Trevor Poe, J. P. Jones, Jamie Richard, Chris Payne, Allen Milbourne, and Major Dodson (nine in number) -- it was apparent even then that Coach John Lowery would have only a few starters with him to defend the newlywon state crown in the 2012 season. Corey Mangold was a starting outfielder on the championship team. Even though he missed the state tourna-

ment with a broken collarbone, Anthony DiAmario had been the regular centerfielder all the way through the regional tournament. Matt Ballou was another outfielder/ designated hitter whose contributions had been needed. Blake Johnson had nearly 30 innings of work and Cody Butts had 13 innings of pitching duty in 2011. Lowery has never had so few important-to-winning returnees in any of Jefferson’s seasons. His first team had athletes from Charles Town High, a Shepherdstown High team that had won the state championship just three years before in 1970, and Lowery’s own Harpers Ferry

High team. And now he has some riches in his outfield . . . but must replace his entire infield, catcher, and his top three starting pitchers. Continued from Page 12 Larcomb pitched. He started in the Sectional tournament. Gustines is a likely lead-off batter or at least will be placed high in Hash’s batting order this season. With Larcomb at first, Gustines is the entrenched shortstop. Utility player Drew Hetzel is a probable starter in the outfield and will also be given some innings as an early-season relief pitcher. Hetzel’s number of pitching innings will depend on how he fares in March and early April. First-year starters include catcher Kaleb Dan, outfielder Dorian Hetzel, outfielder Bryan Bayliss, and freshman second baseman Hunter Weaver. Weaver will bat toward the beginning of the Patriot order. Kendell Smith, with his speed, could become a factor in the outfield and catcher Seth Campbell is a returnee. Washington has that viable core of players that will carry most of the offensive load and do the majority of the pitching in the early going. Other underclassmen on the 2011 roster or jayvee team played only sparingly or have yet to prove them-

JHS

selves as useful players. Washington has enough experience and overall team speed to play an aggressive style of baseball. Attempted stolen bases, trying for an extra base on unaware outfielders, and bunting for hits will often be seen in Patriot games. The Patriots have a starting outfield that boasts of good throwing arms all around. The Patriots are still in the same Class AAA Section with Jefferson and Hampshire and in the same Region with Martinsburg, Hedgesville, and Musselman. Washington’s early-season schedule is spiced by a game at Martinsburg on March 23. There will be games in the Wood Bat Classic at Broad Run High on April 2 and 3. Another trip to Myrtle Beach will be made the week of April 9 with the Patriots guaranteed games on the first four days of that week. Washington’s first-line pitching can carry it through low-run games in March against St. Maria Goretti, Hampshire, Musselman, Sherando, East Hardy, and Dominion. Can the Patriots score enough runs for their pitchers? Even though it saw a large contingent of seniors leave to graduation, Washington returns more useful players than any of the other five teams in the Region. Now it needs some contributions from the first-year starters to make it the school’s best year on the field.

Continued from Page 14

and Butts will play other positions on a regular basis. Mangold will be tried on the mound as well in the outfield. Ballou will also be given some pitching innings. Other than Mangold and Butts, the other three seniors on this team are transfer Fraser Brown, outfielder Josh Skonezny, and infielder Cody McDowell. Brown comes in from Middletown High in Maryland and he is an infielder-pitcher. McDowell was on the jayvee team as a junior. Another transfer is junior outfielder Michael King. King played at Washington High last season. DiAmario and Ballou are both juniors. For Jefferson to thrive in same way it has since 1973 at least three or four of its juniors have to seamlessly move into the lineup. First baseman/pitcher Casey Billmyer is a reliable fielder. Brandt Petrie missed last year with an injury and needs a comfortable year either as a middle infielder or a pitcher. Pitchers A.J. Boyd and Blake Johnson will be given their innings during the first

three weeks of the season. Andrew Grove returns as a middle infielder and could also be tried as a pitcher before the schedule moves into mid-April. Being counted on to replace Jones as the most-used catchers will be Butts and Matt Henshaw, both are knowlegable players who could complement DiAmario, Ballou, and Mangold in the Cougar lineup. King can run well and showed glimpses of power but struck out too often with the Patriots. The other juniors are infielder-pitcher Dennis Jackson and two 2011 jayvee players, Logan Maloney and Sean Spotts. Both are first baseman/pitchers. Middle infielder-catcher Garrett Everton is one of two sophomores. Catcher Aaron Gromke is another player coming from the jayvee team. One of the team’s quickest players is freshman Andrew King, a pitcher-infielder. Lowery has been pleased with the number of fast

runners he has this season. “DiAmario ran a handtimed 6.51 (twice) and Mangold ran a 6.60. Ballou was timed in 6.88 and Michael King runs well. Where will Jefferson’s pitching be realized ? Or will it? Jefferson’s teams have won at least 20 games in every season since 1977. Last year’s championship team finished with a 33-7 record whose last two wins were against Nitro and Fairmont Senior in the state tournament. Since the time of baseball’s introduction into the major leagues, most keen observers of the game have said, “Pitching is anywhere from 75 percent to 90 percent of winning.” And for pitchers to win, they need to throw strikes. Strikes win games. If Jefferson finds enough pitchers with strikes, it will win at least another 20 games. Without strikes, there are no pitchers who will a long run of success. With both Washington and Martinsburg having experienced pitchers with a number of wins from the 2011 season, it will be imperative for the Cougars to find strike-throwing pitchers to successfully compete.

SCHEDULE By Bob Madison

Jefferson won another softball Sectional championship last year when it ousted Washington and Hampshire from postseason play. However, in the first round of the Region II tournament the Lady Cougars were trimmed by Musselman and eliminated themselves. There were only three seniors on that 2011 Lady Cougar team and they were Desire Miller, Acashia Smith, and Corrine Bishop. Miller is on the team roster at Shepherd this spring. Jefferson was able to repeat as the Sectional winner. Experienced players returning to go for a “threepeat” of Sectional honors are pitcher Alexandra Witt and catcher Chelsea Shepherd. Witt was in her first year as Jefferson’s primary starting pitcher because Katie Mangold, now a sophomore at Salem International, was ahead of her in 2010. Shepherd was also a first-year starter. Brittany Jackson is another returning starter. She is joined by Emma Barr and outfielder Lauren Lewis, who were also everyday players in 2011. Kari Nuse is another solid veteran returnee to the Jefferson batting order. Outfielder/pitcher Shannon Lyons is with the Lady Cougars for her fourth season. She was a starter as a freshman. Even though it couldn’t repeat its 2010 Regional championship, Jefferson still only lost six games last year.

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to open the 2012 season on March 14 at Berkeley Springs and then came back to their home field for night games against Handley and Martinsburg and a late afternoon date against St. Maria Goretti. The Berkeley Springs game was not played. The Gene Baker Tournament in Martinsburg and later the Moorefield Tournament in late April seem to be the highlights of this year’s schedule. Schools from Virginia on the schedule are Handley, Woodgrove, and Millbrook. Jefferson lost to James Wood last year but the Colonels are not on this year’s slate of 29 games. Neither Washington nor Hampshire appear to have advanced their teams far enough to displace Jefferson as a Sectional champion.

Spring Sports Preview 2012

By Bob Madison There were four seniors on Washington’s softball team a year ago. The Patriots will be replacing Krysta Mayville, Alexis Curry, Samantha Mills, and Lauren Williams from the school’s 2011 edition. Last season, the Patriots had a number of regular season games cancelled because of inclement weather or wet grounds. Before it entered Sectional tournament play, Washington was 9-5 overall but it dropped two straight games in postseason play-losing to Hampshire and Jefferson -- to complete the season with a 9-7 overall record. In the Sectional, Washington’s top pitcher, Devin Williams, had an arm injury and had to be replaced by Kaitlyn Woodward. Both Williams and Woodward return this season. Williams was one of Washington’s most productive hitters in 2011. Also giving the Patriots consistent offensive numbers was Alycia Lambert. Aja Matlock

was another of Washington’s most productive run producers. Outfielder Courtney Baker was a consistent starter. Katelyn Weaver played several different positions for Coach Denise Bridgeman. If Devin Williams is healthy this season, the Patriots have their No. 1 pitcher to throw at rivals. Amber Curry could be one of Washington’s most productive hitters this season. Chelsea Carey will pitch some games. One of the highlights of this year’s schedule will be the annual Gene Baker Tournament in Martinsburg. The Baker event is held over a two-day period. It was plagued by rain in 2011. Another road trip sees the Patriots travel to Wheeling the second weekend in April. Washington will play Wheeling Park on April 13 and then face Wheeling Central Catholic on Saturday, April 14. The 2012 schedule calls for 30 games, much the same as last season when so many playing dates were lost to the weather or the standing water. The Patriots remain in the same Section with Jefferson and Hampshire. Musselman, Martinsburg, and Hedgesville comprise another Sectional group within Region II and the other teams in the same Region are Bridgeport, Buckhannon, Robert Byrd, Elkins, and Lewis County. Washington was looking for its first Sectional championship when the season opened on March 14 at Handley High in Winchester.

While it had only scant success on the area’s tennis courts last year, Jefferson High will return many of those girls players . . . and they will be a year older and have that varsity experience to help them. India Watson was the No. 1 singles player for the Lady Cougars in 2011. The other three singles players were Maggie VanVliet, Ashley Ford, and No. 4 player, Amy Schattel. Those four players also comprised Jefferson’s No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams. The No. 3 doubles team a year ago had Lauren Thomas and Susanne Lindsey. Experience can usually be welded together with physical maturation to give players more success as they get older. And now Jefferson has some of that team-wide experience. If Jefferson does rise above some of the other Region II schools, its path all the way to the top will be blocked by Washington High. Should the Lady Cougars have improved to the point where they can beat Washington, they can become the Region II champions. But no regional team has ever outdone the Patriots because Washington has won all three Region II championships since it opened its doors for the 200809 school year. There will be three days of matches coming on April 12-14 when Jefferson travels to play some of the schools from the north central part of West Virginia. All the schools to be faced are in Region II, the same as Jefferson. After opening the season in the annual Jefferson Invitational, the Lady Cougars settle in to a schedule that has a predominance of in-state opponents. Most of the opponents are fellow Region II schools. Other than Washington, Jefferson’s most talented opponent will probably be St. James School from Washington County, Maryland. The annual Potomac Valley Conference tournament takes place on April 27. Last year’s youth parade of players now has some needed experience with which to compete with their regional opponents.

BOYS By Bob Madison

Kyle Polczynski is in line to assume the No. 1 singles spot on the Jefferson boy’s tennis team roster. The Wright brothers -- Ronnie and David -- were seniors last year when Polczynski was the team’s No. 2 singles player. If Polczynski doesn’t advance to the No. 1 spot and stays in the same position he occupied in 2011, then it could be Devin Forman -- another full-time singles player last season -- or Isaiah Washington or Isaac Washington. Another returnee is Tyler Offutt, who played regularly in doubles. Jefferson finished behind champion Washington in the 2011 Region II tournament. The annual Jefferson Invitational tournament opened the season again. That event was staged on Saturday, March 17 at the high school courts in Shenandoah Junction. A trip to the central part of the state to play matches on three days during the second week of April will be the one major trip this season. Jefferson faces teams from Region II where the outcomes of individual matches can be used to seed the singles players and doubles players for the Regional tournament coming in early May. The Potomac Valley Conference tournament is scheduled for April 27. Both the boys and girls teams will be present for that event. The Cougars will play intra-county rival Washington in Shenandoah Junction on April 24 after having visited the Patriots for a match on April 5. St. Maria Goretti, James Buchanan, Clarke County, and Massanutten Military Academy are the only teams other than Berkeley Springs to be played that are not connected with West Virginia’s Class AAA Region II. Goretti’s Gaels and Clarke County will be played twice. Region II play begins on May 3 and is to be completed on May 5. This year’s Class AAA state tournament opens on May 10 in Charleston.

BOYS By Bob Madison

In its three years in existence, Washington High has posted two boy’s tennis Regional championships . . . and will be one of the favorites in 2012 to repeat last year’s title. If the Patriots do win their third Regional championship in four years they will do it without 2011 graduates Will Robison and Blake Pindell. Both Robison and Pindell also had individual success at the state level in both 2010 and 2011. Heading the list of returning players chasing another Regional title are Austin Thomas, Cory Coomler and Alden Roth. Thomas was one of Washington’s top four singles players last season while Coomler and Roth teamed to play No. 3 doubles. Thomas also was a key figure in doubles play. However, Will Wheatley will be Washington’s No. 1 singles player and Patrick Haslund will be the team’s No. 2 singles player. Thomas is stationed at No. 3 singles and Roth is at No. 4. When out-of-state matches are played, Coomler will play No. 5 singles and Cullen Irving will play No. 6. The doubles teams will be Wheatley/Haslund at No. 1, Thomas/Roth at No. 2, and Coomler/Irving at No. 3. Finding able replacements for the continuous wins provided by Robison and Pindell will be a vital part of whether the Patriots can successfully defend their Regional championship. This year’s Region II tournament will be hosted by Buckhannon High. Teams expected to come to the Buckhannon area for

the Region II tournament are Washington, Jefferson, Musselman, Bridgeport, Martinsburg, Hedgesville, Elkins, Robert Byrd, Buckhannon, Hampshire, and Lewis County. After claiming two Region II team titles in its only three years in existence, expectations will be high again this season. Of all the other Region schools, only Jefferson has ever had any consistent success in boy’s tennis. And the Cougars have been surpassed by Washington in recent years. None of the schools from the central part of the state is expected to find enough useful players to become a state-wide contender for any Region or State honors. Wheatley and Haslund have moved to the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, inheriting the mantels left by the graduation of multi-year contributors Robison and Pindell. The Washington schedule is a refreshing one. And it began on March 14 against one of the area’s premier teams in Handley High of Winchester. The Patriots also travel to Parkersburg High to see the Big Reds and to Ona to play Cabell Midland High. A return match in Charles Town against Handley is slated for April 23.

So far, Washington has been a perfect 3-for-3. Since it began playing girl’s tennis in 2009, the Patriots have won all three Region II championships. And there is no reason to believe they can’t do it again for a fourth straight time in 2012. There were two seniors -- Katelyn Mumaw and Jana Jones -- on the Region-winning 2011 team. Mumaw had exceptional success in her three years at Washington where she was the No. 1 singles player for three years. She also fared well in doubles. Jones was a regular winner in both singles and doubles. Playing without both Mumaw and Jones will take some getting used to, but the Patriots return four key figures in the continual success the four-year school has found. Angela Pittinger, Melissa Sirbaugh, and Amber Barr were all integral factors in Washington’s winning the Region II championship last season. Jill Spuria was the Patriots’ No. 4 singles player a year ago. This year, Pittinger has moved to No. 1 singles and Sirbaugh to No. 2. Barr will be playing No. 4 singles. Littleton will be Washington’s No. 3 singles player. The Patriots will have Pittinger/Sirbaugh playing No. 1 doubles, Littleton/Barr at No. 2 doubles, and Jessica Fort/Jordan Welch will be stationed at No. 3. Like the boy’s team, the Patriot girls have fashioned a schedule that should help them when the competition of the Region and State tournaments comes along. Washington opened on March 14 against the best girl’s team within a wide range of Jefferson County in John Handley High from Winchester. Handley is the many, many-time state champion in the state of Virginia. A trip to far western West Virginia will see the Patriots play Parkersburg High and also Cabell Midland on April 11 and move back to Morgantown to face both University High and Morgantown High on April 12. The Potomac Valley Conference tournament is scheduled for April 27. Washington has won every Potomac Valley Conference tournament held while it has been a school. Washington has been a viable, points-winning team at previous state tournaments. In 2012, the Patriots will miss Mumaw and Jones for the first time. But none of the area or Region teams seem to have the weapons to supplant them as the most forceful team around.
