s soon as the sun comes out, there’s nothing more relaxing than a refreshing glass of wine alfresco. We are lucky to have great outdoor seating areas at both The Hero and The Anchor Inn, whether it’s a glass of Provence rosé in a sheltered spot overlooking the quay at Burnham Overy, or a pint of Woodforde’s Wherry in the nautical-themed beer garden at Morston, which is a little suntrap in the summer months. One of our most popular summer cocktails is Norwichbased brewery Bullards’ strawberry and black pepper gin, mixed with Prosecco, to make a longer drink. It’s so delicious, even I’m a fan!

When it comes to the summer menu, it’s all about fresh seafood, local oysters, seasonal salads and Willie Weston of The Fish Shop in Blakeney’s mouth-watering flaky crab – it’s the best I’ve ever tasted. I also love cooking (and eating!) juicy lobster grilled in garlic butter using my fantastic Big Green Egg barbecue. It is the business! And as for adding some colour to your plate, you can’t beat Roger Crane of Wood Farm near Aylsham’s gorgeous green asparagus. What’s more, samphire, the salty veg of the sea, is back in season. You can’t get more Norfolk than a bundle of this super-tasty sea vegetable!
