Leavitt BOYS’ SOCCER Coach: Kris Wright (first year) Last year’s record: 1-13 Returning letter winners: Seniors — Elliott Wiegman (FB), Joshua Chouinard (FB), Kyle Smith (FB), Cooper Legee (MF); Juniors — Zachary Fullerton (MF), Korey Mulherin (F). Key losses: Kelson Ridley (MF), Cody Violette (FB), Sam Ricker (F), Mason White (F), Chris Warner (FB). Promising newcomers: Senior — Tyler Allen (G); Sophomore — Brandon Morissette (MF). Outlook: The Hornets are trying to rebound after winning just one game in each of the last two seasons. Wright has a small group of returning players and hopes to see this club make progress toward being competitive in the KVAC. Coach’s comment: “The Hornets are optimistic about the new season, looking to play a better brand of soccer under a new head coach. The boys have accepted a new standard of expectation and are taking on the challenge of preparing themselves for the difficult task of improving their record over last year. Improvem ent s in at titude, work ethic, defensive effort and offensive creativity hope to see the team looking back, at the end of October, on the 2010 season with pride and a sense of accomplishment.” — Coach Kris Wright
Leavitt FIELD HOCKEY Coach: Wanda Ward-McLean (27th year) Last year’s record: 8-5-1 (Lost in Western B quarterfinal) Returning players: Seniors — Rosie DeLaGarza (B), MyKayla McCann (F); Juniors — Taylor Eells (G), Morgan Erskine (F), Casey Fichter (F), Amanda Jordan (M), Adrie Newton (F), Kayla Royer (B). Key losses: Sarah Durgin, Jen Vallee, Emily Murphy, Kylie Vincent, Lynn Lussenhop, Shelby Poland, Brianna Dionne, Briana Luce. Promising newcomers: Seniors — Karina Rodriguez (B), Courtney Riordan (B); Juniors — Cassie
Griffin (M), Amber LeDuc, Kasidy Stevenson (F/M); Sophomores — Morgan Shaw (M), Holly Gallup (M); Freshmen — Bri DeGone (F), Meagan Dow (M), Emily Shaw (B/M), Cheryl Fichter (F), Annie Castonguay (B). Outlook: A perennial contender in Class B, the Hornets had an offyear last year — well, for them, anyway. The goal this year is to return to the team’s tytpical topof-the-conference form, and there is a good strong nucleus of players back to help in that endeavor. There is also a very good group of younger players in the mix here. Coach’s comment: “The goal of the team is to improve on last season’s record and go deep into the playoffs.” — Coach Wanda Ward-McLean
Leavitt FOOTBALL Coach: Mike Hathaway (ninth year) Last year’s record: 12-0, Class B champions Returning players: Seniors — Max Cloutier (C/NG), James Morin (T/DT), Jesse Pelletier (G/DT), Zach Frost (G/DE), Jason Fisher (IR/LB), Lucas Witham (SE/S), Christian McBreiarty (TE/CB); Juniors — Jordan Hersom (QB/S), Jake Ouellette (TB/LB). Key losses: Josh Strickland (RB), Eric Theiss (QB), Matt Pellerin (T/ DT), Mat Porter (T/DT), Luke Wiley (G/DT), Cam Griffin (SE/S), Jon Letourneau (IR/CB), Buck Bochtler (TE/DE), Ryan Labbe (SE), Mitch Cobb (G/LB), Nick Urquhart (TE/ LB), Isaiah Wright (IR). Promising newcomers: Seniors
— Devin Long (IR), Dylan Moore (SE/DE), Kurtis Brown (SE/CB), Kevin Theiss (SE); Juniors — Ian Durgin (IR/CB), Jake Posik (T), Jack Griffin (TE/DE); Sophomore — Devin McMahan (T), Josh Bunker (TE). Outlook: 2009 was a dream season for the Hornets, who celebrated their third undefeated Class B championship campaign in the last 15 years. For most schools, following that by bidding farewell to such a talented senior class would be a nightmare. Don’t shed any tears for Leavitt. Hersom, whose last name is a fixture in Maine high school football, would have been the starting QB for most other teams in Class B last year. Witham

is a top-notch receiver. Frost and Pelletier will join holdovers Cloutier and Morin and bring quickness to a retooled of fensive line. Ouellette was the team’s leading tackler a year ago. They’re not the overwhelming favorite of a year ago, but the Hornets are capable of a repeat. Coach’s comment: “I’ve always said you’re the champs until somebody beats you in the playoffs. I’m not going to change my tune now.” — Coach Mike Hathaway
