Eric Schmidt and his wife, Heather, purchased the Spearfish Sasquatch following the 2019 season. “Being a part of the organization since its outset, we knew we had to jump at the opportunity to purchase the team when it became available. We quickly formed a group of Spearfish locals who all shared the same passion for keeping this awesome form of family entertainment in our community for years to come.”
Eric serves as the General Manager of the team, running all the day-to-day operations. A native of Schaller, IA, Eric has called Spearfish home since attending Black Hills State University where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration & Management in 2005. Before coming to the Sasquatch in 2018, he spent the previous 15 years at the Spearfish Holiday Inn & Lucky’s 13 Pub as the Director of Marketing & Human Resources. Eric has always had a passion for baseball and business, the prospect of merging the two is truly a dream come true. In his spare time, you can find Eric spending time with his friends and family, golfing, attending concerts, traveling, playing volleyball or rooting for his beloved Chicago Cubs.
Heather grew up on a family farm near Hettinger, ND. After high school, she moved to the beautiful Black Hills to attend college where she graduated with a Bachelors in Business & Tourism from Black Hills State University in 2011. Spearfish has been Heather's home since 2007 and she couldn’t imagine living anywhere else! Following an 8 year stint with Black Hills Energy, Heather now enjoys staying home raising their girls while working as an associate and designer with Spirit of Dakota Cabinetry (see ad inside back cover) and as a Virtual Assistant for a catering company based in Oklahoma. When she does find free time, you’ll find Heather hanging out with friends and family, traveling, boating, attending concerts and snow skiing!
Married in 2016, the Schmidts welcomed their first daughter, Charlotte, to the world in April of 2020. In May of 2022, they welcomed another little girl, Lucy, to the family. Lastly, they added another little girl, Sophie, in July of 2024. The Schmidt family want to sincerely thank you for attending games and supporting the Spearfish Sasquatch as we embark on our seventh season. We are working hard at building the Sasquatch culture both on and off the field and hope to cultivate an even stronger passion for the sport of baseball in Spearfish and throughout the entire Northern Hills for years and years to come. Thank you again for joining us for a game at Black Hills Energy Stadium, we hope you enjoy an amazing experience each and every night!

Our host family program gives our great fans a unique opportunity to get to know our players on a deeper level. Host families play a valuable role for the Sasquatch by providing players a place to call home for the summer. Our players have a hectic schedule that will have them playing nearly 60 games in less than 70 days. Half of those games will be away games. Needless to say, when the team gets home and off the bus, they are ready for a place to lay their heads. Host families provide a place to sleep, do laundry, a hot shower, an occasional home cooked meal, and a place to call home for the summer.
Many of these players will move on from Independence League Baseball and play at the next level. Players may move onto the minor league systems and hopefully onto Major League Baseball. Many times these players will keep in touch with their host families as they progress throughout their career. How great would it be to possibly host a future major league player in your home?
