T

he new year is well underway and we finding ourselves bracing for change. Not just the change of a new year but the change of a new decade entirely and that includes with interior design. It seems unimaginable that our beloved trends at the moment may start falling out of popularity and style. It seems even more unimaginable that we're already in February! Though as much as change will come, some trends are still going strong currently and as evident on Instagram, 'Mommy Bloggers' remain ever popular. With Valentine's Day coming around the corner this led me to wonder, have our trends seeped to our children? Is bold and colourful still the main design point for children's rooms and nurseries? This issue, we target our beautiful mommy blogger readers with a full kid-themed issue! We delve into the world of children with child-focused creators and decorum. Toys, fun decals and colours make up this issue as we highlight and point out trends for nurseries and playrooms as well as design ideas for all our mothers (and fathers!). Lastly, see our trend predicitions for this decade, what do the SPACES staff think is going to be 'in' this decade? We truly hope you enjoy this fun issue and garner lots of ideas for your precious little ones.

5 TRENDS BEING DITCHED IN 2020 As the decade of the 2010s close and the new year begins, certain trends just no longer cut the mustard. As we change every year, so does our style and although some trends stand the test of time lasting a good portion of the decade, others fade and don't carry over. Here are 5 trends that won't be following us into the new year.

Accent Walls

It's hard to believe this was a prominent trend as it seems accent walls have long been a thing and seem to be a trend all the time. But indeed it was still a pretty big and defining trend in the 2010s. As trends are predicted to move to become more bold and towards maximalism as opposed to minimalism, one wall with boldness is no longer enough. Trends are predicted to move towards bolder walls altogether but I believe white and grey will hold its own for little while longer. 7 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

Neon Signs

Once a cool, glam wall accent popular in new wave glam nail salons and cute pink and neutral homes, neon is now on its way out. Indeed boldness is predicted to be in however neon will not be joining that trend of boldness as it goes back to being almost tacky. I still feel you can get a good couple months of it still, though.

Rose Gold and Brass A sad reality for me personally but it's been a long time coming. The 2010s saw rose gold as THE metal accent and it reigned supreme for the longest time. However, it has since died down slowly and alongside brass, is being replaced. Classic gold is still in style but it seems rose gold is reaching the end of its tether.

Palm Print

This popular print brought the tropics to the indoors and was plastered everywhere from pillows and bed sheets to wallpaper as a quirky accent. Though the leafy design was quite popular, it's popularity has slowed exponentially. Although the idea of bringing nature into the home is still a wildly popular one, it's expected to see that this particular pattern is going to fall out of fashion entirely and be replaced by other methods of interior greenery.

Millenial Pink

A couple months ago I would have said you could pry Millienial Pink from my cold, dead hands but no one can deny the reality that this soft, sweet colour that defined the 2010s is being ditched. Although it was a incredibly popular colour with no shortage of Pinterest and Instagram decor inspirations utilising it's soft nature and high compatibility with other colours (usually grey or navy blue), the colour has faded out and is already starting to look outdated. It may hold on strongly as an accent colour for a little while longer but otherwise will be fading out in favour of bolder colours. Though we feel it will hold weight in the IMVU catalog for perhaps even longer than predicted. What do you think about these trends predicted to leave us? The latest bundle from Myana is her Kids Tropical Room.Fitting right on trend with the use of nature on the indoors, the bundle consists of a brightly coloured room utilising classic bright kid colours blue, green and pink. The room as well as having brightly coloured walls also features palm print accent walls. The vine plant wall decor perfectly tops off the tropical 'jungle' feel that boosts kids imagination, making it a perfect room for play. Alongside the nature prints is the recurring flamingo character, a cute recognisable character for kids to enjoy. The room features comfortable sofas for sitting and reading, an open crib, a play pen and various toys including dolls. There's even the inclusion of chair swings, a fitting addition to the ensemble. All together this room makes for a perfect bedroom and playroom where kids can endlessly use their imagination and be surrounded by adorable, friendly decor. There is no shortage of space to play and run around. The tropical room is a refreshing change from the usual 'neutral with a pop of colour' rooms that have been on high trend. SPACE SHOWCASE

Every month we showcase the spaces of IMVU. This month we looked into the home of mommy blogger Emicclark. Interview by Allureable 24 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

Emi answered the door bright and cheery. Enchanting floral scents immediately wafted out. The place was bright and sparkling. We sat on her plush velvet sofas to conduct the interview. What was the inspiration for your home? Why did you choose this style? EMI: I wanted a pretty and chic apartment but also a place where my kids would have their place to feel comfortable in. Who were the creators you used mainly in here? For the kitchen, I used Adex3. For the living room and my bedroom I used Plugstyles. I used JiggyGino for kids corner and Charlee for their bedroom. And then for both bathrooms I used RozayBentley, Would you say Plugstyles is one of your favourite creators? She definitely is ! She always puts out new stuff. Some of her old collections match with new ones so we can do anything with her products and that's what I love! 25 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

Why did you choose Charlee to decorate your kids room? Is there something you particularly like about her? I wanted a neutral but colorful bedroom since my kids are sharing the same bedroom. I wanted them to share the same universe with some different touches of color, like a little bit of pink like on the bed and the toy box. Also, Charlee made a full set of this collection so it was simple for me to make the bedroom be a nursery while they were little. 29 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

Decade Trend Predictions

SPACES staff weigh in with their predictions of trends for the 2020s decade.

ALLUREABLE I predict clear/glass/acrylic furniture as we get more futuristic this decade. I don't think white or light neutrals are leaving any time soon. Art deco as inspired by Great Gatsby such as gold base & crown mouldings, straight, geometric lines and 1920s themed art deco wall art.

PINKGODDESS23

I believe the future of VU house is in the tech-friendly products. We might not really be able to use them but it’s the visual appeal they give to us in the pictures we take.

SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY

RHIANELUVV

Alot of glam and floral. Such as rose gold and pink or shades of white and gold or sliver representing the Gatsby's high glamour.

39 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

DULCIII

I predict that the art deco trend of the roaring 20s is going to make a comeback. As people lean towards a more Gatsby aesthetic however, there will still be the minimalist style and the addition of futuristic furniture. The minimalist aesthetic isn’t leaving anytime soon

Trendy designs to add to your kids room 1. Metallics Fast growing in popularity, metals such as gold, silver, copper and brass are perfect additions to add a bit of glam and glitter in your kids rooms. Try adding this Throw Pillow by KTY or Magix Chair by Amori.

2. Geometrics Geometry has always been a good design option for kids. The straight lines make for a simple and minimalistic yet effective design. If not in the shape of the furniture itself, geometric patterns are also a good choice.

43 SPACES MAGAZINE | FEBRUARY 2020

3. Scandi-style Scandinavian style has long been popular in every room of the house and the kids’ room is no exception. An easy and stylish way to have a clean space that utilises today’s trendy palette without looking boring for children.

4. Dots Probably the easiest, simplest yet effective pattern is dots. Dots have an ageless delight that add a fun element into a room. A highly underrated design choice.
