Sue Bell founded Essex children’s charity ‘Kids Inspire’ in 2007. It is a community based organisation that aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and their families. Currently, Kids Inspire is based in Chelmsford and Southend, and provides a bespoke package of intervention individually tailored to each child’s needs. Kids Inspire strives to build good relationships and help young people achieve their full potential so they can become stable adults who contribute positively to society. We are supported by the patronage of Anya Hindmarch (international fashion designer). We are also the chosen charity for Sainsbury Springfield, Essex County Cricket Club, Baker labels, Subway (Chelmsford branches), Channels Golf Club and The County Hotel for 2012. We have continued to receive amazing support from local businesses, such as STV Building Services, E2V, Britvic and M&G, who have supported us through donations and amazing activities over the past year.

exclusive interview

Amy Childs

This month RM caught up with the Queen of Essex to speak about life after TOWIE, her ever expanding empire and her top tips for looking glamtastic on a night out in Essex!

8 | rmmagazine.co.uk

exclusive interview Hi Amy, wow! Since leaving TOWIE you have been a busy girl! How has the programme changed your life? TOWIE was an amazing opportunity for me, I loved the show when I was in it and I had so much fun filming it’s definitely changed my life I am so grateful for everything I have. We all know Amy Childs’ Salon is amazing but you now also have Amy Childs’ Boutique, how’s that all going? The boutique is doing better than I ever expected, I never planned to have a boutique, but my online shop is doing so well and I had my clothes and products selling in my salon, which was making my salon turn into a bit of a shop and I didn’t want that I wanted the salon to be relaxing and focused around treatments so that’s why I decided to get a shop to sell my clothing but I can now also sell my perfume, vajazzles, tan, lashes as well as my Mikey jewellery and bags all in one place. What’s it like being neighbours with your cousin Harry? Are you constantly in each other’s shops?! Oh, I absolutely love Harry’s World we are both so lucky to have shops so close to each other, we are always popping into each other’s shops. What sets Amy’s Boutique apart from the others in Brentwood? It stocks all my own Amy Childs products which makes it more personal, I think you know when you’re coming to buy stuff it’s the same as what’s online.

Can you give us your top tips for looking glam on a night out in Essex. You definitely need a good tan – I love using Must Me Mist before I go out, it smells of strawberries and cream so I smell good too! I can’t go out without my eyelashes, during the day I love to wear Tease or Temptress but for a night out it has to be Heartbreaker! Manicured nails are really important to me too! Do you miss being able to walk down to the shops with out all the press attention? I would never complain it’s hard sometimes when you want to do a quick shop or if you’re feeling unwell but generally it’s all part of it. Whats the best thing about being Amy Childs? I’m just me, the same me, I haven’t changed I am the same Amy Childs from Essex, everything that’s happened to me is amazing I would never change a thing but I just love being with my friends and family, that’s what matters to me the most. What can we expect from Amy Childs in the future? Well I will definitely be bringing out more products, I am working on hair pieces at the moment and want to open express ‘Amy salon-bars’ in shopping centres. I am filming for a few different projects at the moment and I can’t wait to be back on TV. Amy Childs new A/W ‘12 clothing collection and products are all available from www.amychildsofficial.co.uk

Who would you say is your style icon? I love Victoria Beckham’s style and Cheryl Cole’s, they always look amazing. With so much going on in your life how often do you get to work at your salon and boutique? I make sure I go to my salon and boutique every weekend if I am not working I love meeting everyone and I actually really enjoy working in both. You have also launched your new fragrance ‘Amy Childs’ and I must say it smells amazing, how much input did you have in the overall smell and image of the fragrance? It was a long process actually and it was so hard to pick the perfect smell we ended up putting them in groups of yes, no, and maybe about 4 times until we found the one. I wanted purple as it matched my other products and I picked the bottle shape.

Ok, so they might not be the cutest of woodland creatures but as soon as Burberry showcased their British inspired owl jumper in their AW12 catwalk show back in February, our feathered friends were destined to be a hit on the high street in the chillier months and now you can barely walk past a shop window without spotting one of them on a tee, dress or sweater. Best of all, there is an amazing selection of jewellery available for those who want to style the trend in a more subtle way...

Essex Fashion Week How is the preparation going for this year’s Essex Fashion week? The preparations are going very well at the moment we are organised and ready to bring everything together for the main event. It it always hard work and the EFW team are all extremely busy with their roles and responsibilities in making this show another big success. We are very excited for the show and there is actually only a small number of tickets left - the VIP balcony seats have completely sold out which is great news! What can we expect to see this year, any exclusives for your favourite magazine? Ok, so we will let you into a few secrets and things to look out for at the event..... red carpet, high heels, celebrities, helicopters, National and International press, stalls, live entertainment, giveaways and of course a high energy runway show watched by an ultra glam crowd followed by a lively afterparty. What more could you possibly want? Have you found organising the event has got easier as EFW has becomes popular? We have a good template for the show which we know works very well but we still like to think of fresh and new ideas and mix it up each time. The exposure and credibility as a fashion week that we have now makes the show easier to promote as everyone knows about it, has heard about it or has been to the event. How do you expect to top EFW SS2012? For this very exciting AW 2012 show we actually have a completely fresh runway line up. All of the designers/ brands were not present on the catwalk at S/S 2012 so our returning guests in particular are in for a treat.

16 | rmmagazine.co.uk

fashion

RM Magazine are once again proud to be headline sponsors for Essex Fashion Week, we caught up with the EFW team to find out how preperations are going, what’s new and how they expect to top their sell out Spring / Summer show earlier in the year!

Everyone is excited to see Tresor Paris are headline sponsors, what involvement will they have? Tresor Paris are our official Principle Sponsor for the show and they will be having their very own catwalk set - definitely one to look out for! They will also be accessorising other designers clothing on the catwalk with their stunning jewellery range and we are also expecting a few surprises from the Tresor Paris team on the day too. We already know they are bringing their branded double decker party bus to the venue! What do you think sets Essex Fashion Week aside from the rest? It is an accessible show that everyone is welcome to come and enjoy - we have been dubbed ‘the peoples fashion week.’ It gives new businesses a great opportunity to launch their brands and is a platform to discover new talent. Other counties have now followed in our footsteps creating their own fashion weeks so it is great to know we are inspiring people. EFW represents our fashion conscious county and we think its amazing how people all of over the UK come together at the event to celebrate fashion and most of all, have a good time! What do you want to achieve this year? We are currently in the Guinness Book of Records for the number of guests in one room viewing a fashion show from a fashion week, so we would love to break the record and beat the number of people we had at our last show. What do you hope your guests can take from the event? We hope our guests leave the show feeling inspired having enjoyed an amazing celebration of fashion and hope to see them again at SS 2013.

Totally Essex Hair “I don’t think I could live without hair, makeup and styling, let alone be the performer I am. I am a glamour girl through and through. I believe in the glamorous life and I live one.” ~ Lady Gaga ~

I am Suzi Dunn Dumbrill, 42, a single mother to two teenagers Robyn, 16 and Jack, 13. At the age 35 I went through every woman’s worst nightmare as a single mum and found a lump in my breast. As a result I had a partial mastectomy. Although I was lucky that I didn’t need chemo, I had three operations on my chest over the next five years to reconstruct. Due to the drugs I had to take, my hair never fully recovered, and to this day is much thinner and doesn’t grow well. During this time one of the hardest aspects to cope with was the fear of losing my hair. Even though it’s vain and should have been the last thing on my mind I couldn’t help but feel that my femininity was being taken away. The experience made me realise how important hair was to a woman so I trained in fitting hair extensions, but subsequently gave up as it was so hard to get good quality hair.

After working in the city for many years, like a lot of people I then lost my job in the recession. With this in mind I decided to go back into hair extensions. I updated my training at a HABIA approved salon and started to source hair. Luckily hair has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years; better quality and ethically sourced. Since then Totally Essex has gone from strength to strength and is well known in and around Essex with some 200+ clients including celebrities such as Gemma Collins and Lucy and Charley from 2Shoes.

That is why I’m so delighted that Totally Essex is the FIRST Hair Extension Company to have a Catwalk show at Essex Fashion Week on 6th October and have the opportunity to bring the product to even more ladies. Exciting times ahead for us! For further information about Totally Essex Hair Extensions and “Invisible”, please visit: www.totallyessexhairextensions.co.uk or contact via phone: 07869 771989 and follow on Tiwtter @totallyessex

Working with clients that have had chemo and those that suffered with alopecia drove me to bring “Invisible”, a temporary hair extension product, into the Totally Essex Hair Range as not everyone can have permanent hair extensions. It is perfect for those with shorter or weaker hair or ladies that just want to have extensions on an occasional basis. The “Invisible” can be made to measure and completely unique to your own head size, length and hair colour or a standard size “Invisible” can be bought online. The ‘ring’ of hair sits around your crown and is so easy to put on and remove. Feedback so far has been phenomenal! “Invisible” suits ALMOST everyone. It weighs and provides almost the same amount of hair as a full head of permanent hair extensions and it provides volume and length which can be styled and coloured in any way. After my own experiences, there is nothing better for me to see someone walk out of my salon feeling good about themselves. 25

wellbeing

Wanting to know if the budget prices are the real deal or needing help in the gum department, well do not hesitate to get in touch with Dr Jas, he’s here to help with all your dentistry dilemmas…RM highly recommend his expertise when it comes to your pearly whites… What Is Tooth Erosion? Enamel is the hard surface of a tooth. Erosion is caused by acid in food and drinks that can eat away at the enamel of teeth. Sensitivity of the teeth may be a sign that you may have tooth erosion. Teeth can become yellow in colour as the dentine of the tooth starts to show through the enamel. The surface of the tooth takes on a transparent look or greyish colour. To stop any further erosion of teeth it is advisable to wait at least an hour after eating acidic foods before cleaning your teeth as the acid can make the enamel soft and it can be brushed away. It is also advisable to use a straw when drinking carbonated and sugary drinks. To prevent this it is better to avoid fizzy and acidic drinks and foods. If teeth have worn a lot they can be restored with white fillings, veneers or crowns if very severe. Dr Jas has treated thousands of erosion cases.

Before

After

How Should I Keep My Teeth Clean? Teeth can be kept clean and healthy by visiting the dentist and hygienist on a regular basis. In between visits to the hygienist (who will show you how to clean your teeth properly) you must floss and brush your teeth and gums at least twice a day. Cleaning your tongue with a special tongue cleaner and using a mild mouthwash will add to your fresh breath regime. Why Does My Tooth Hurt? Even if you have regular dental check-ups and see the hygienist, you can sometimes still get toothache. Who needs a treadmill? Ever wondered why there are no treadmills at Go30? The lack of treadmills does surprise many new members but the answer lies in the fact that if you spent the whole of your 30 minute session on a treadmill, you would lose fluid and very little else! The Go30 circuit is designed to help members achieve super fast weight and inch loss in 30 minute sessions. That requires muscles to be toned and tightened throughout the body and treadmill jogging won’t do that! The only efficient way to tone muscles is to exercise them using some form of resistance, which is exactly what the Go30 circuit is designed to do. In addition to fast inch loss, most of our members want to burn fat and jogging is not an efficient way to achieve this. It may not be what dedicated joggers want to hear, but the fact is that one would have to jog for five hours or more to lose just one pound of fat! That’s based on the known calorie expenditure of an hours jogging which is between 700 and 800 calories per hour, depending on your weight and the speed that you jog at. When you consider that you would need to burn off 3,500 calories to rid the body of just one pound of fat, you soon come to realise that jogging is not the answer to weight loss. Our muscle fibres are the key to burning calories in the long term. The more toned fibres we have, the more energy it takes to maintain them. Resistance exercise increases muscle tonus dramatically, which is why the Go30 circuit is so effective in burning fat. So why do we see dedicated joggers pounding away on treadmills in most conventional gyms?

Good question! Perhaps they are training for the London Marathon, or do they think that when they sweat buckets they are ridding the body of fat! All we know for sure, is that they won’t get slim on a treadmill! Perhaps it is only fair to say that spending hours on a treadmill does have some benefits. It is one way of becoming Aerobically fit. Jogging is an excellent cardio vascular activity which benefits our heart and lungs and lowers our risk of heart attack, stroke and thrombosis. But it is also fair to point out that you don’t have to jog to improve aerobic fitness. Our members achieve great improvements to their fitness without jogging on treadmills! Two or three or more 30 minute sessions on the Go30 circuit each week will lower resting heart rate by up to ten beats per minute within weeks of starting the programme – a sure sign of improvement in aerobic fitness. The Go30 circuit may not make you a marathon runner, but it will slim you down, shape you upand get you fit – without treadmills!

From London with Love A small 6-man team consisting of 4 brothers (based in Collier Row) and 2 friends cycled 240 miles over 3 days totally independent and self funded, from London to Paris on the 2nd September.

Before leaving Tarik explained “We’ll be covering all of our own costs and set off equipped with no more than a back pack each, some energy bars and bike repair kits” None of the cyclists are professionals and none of the cyclists had previously travelled more than 60 miles in one single journey! So it proved to be a great challenge and an amazing adventure. We were invited to Miller & Carter, Chigwell which is part of a chain known for their steak dishes. The Chigwell Restaurant is easy to find, has a large car park with dining areas on three floors with views over the Essex country side near the forest for country walks. On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and the pub and restaurant had a good ambience for a modern family restaurant and for such a large venue had a relaxing atmosphere. We looked at the menu which was extensive and had plenty of choices and there was a large range of wines, cocktails and pub drinks to choose from. The food we ordered was well presented and the standard of cooking was excellent. Highly recommended. What we ate: Shared Starter: Crispy calamari, buffalo chicken wings, garlic bread, baked cheddar mushrooms and onion loaf, served with garlic & chive mayonnaise and BBQ dips. Main Course: Ribeye 12 oz Steak with parsley butter jacket potato and iceberg lettuce wedge with cheese topping plus a slice of onion loaf. 8 oz Rump Steak with parsley butter seasoned fries and Iceberg lettuce wedge with a bacon topping and a slice of onion loaf. Desert: Vanilla ice cream encased in sponge and covered in glazed meringue, served with a mixed berry compote and whipped cream. Deep Filled Apple Pie with custard and vanilla Beechdean Farmhouse dairy ice cream. Mr & Mrs Hicks Miller & Cater Steakhouse in Epping We dined at Miller & Carter Steakhouse on Monday evening and were pleasantly surprised by many aspects of our experience. Firstly, there was ample parking, followed by courteous and professional service. The menu catered for not just carnivorous palates as one would expect from a steakhouse, it offered pasta dishes, fish and vegetarian dishes and the desserts caused a dilemma, as we would have liked to sample them all. Their wine list allowed for choice and the cocktails looked very attractive but driving meant I had to refrain. The restaurant can cater for 204 guests, when all sections are open, which is Friday to Sunday, however Monday to Thursday they cater for about 100 guests and it is advisable to book as it was a full house on Monday. With the tables generously spaced, delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere, it made for a wonderful evening out. Tony & Mary Fox 41

This month RM Magazine were invited down to ‘The Magic Mushroom’ in Billericay, to experience a selection of food from their amazing daily lunch menu. Established in 1996 the Magic Mushroom has earned a reputation of providing the highest quality foods at reasonable prices, their head Chef and owner Darren Bennet offers a contemporary menu with a traditional influence and is proud that many of their ingredients are sourced locally and are also where possible organic. A sporty new exterior design, lowered suspension for a dynamic ride and an exciting reinterpretation of the familiar interior – feast your eyes on the all-new MINI Paceman, set for UK launch in March 2013. 44 | rmmagazine.co.uk

lifestyle Styled as a coupé interpretation of the Countryman, four versions will be available when it arrives in showrooms next spring, including the MINI Cooper S Paceman which will have a 0-62mph of just 7.5 seconds. The seventh unique member of the family, it will sell alongside the Hatch, Clubman, Convertible, Countryman, Coupé and Roadster. Packed with MINI character and obvious design cues which tie it to the rest of the range, the three-door Paceman’s unique exterior styling is what immediately catches the eye. Built on the Countryman platform, bumper to bumper the car is 4,109 mm (4,115mm for MINI Cooper S Paceman and Cooper SD Paceman), which makes it almost identical in size to its sibling. With a contemporary and expressive body shape, the Paceman has been created to appeal to a new type of design-conscious customer. The prominent horizontal lines and dynamic curved surfaces give the promise of sporting performance, yet there is an elegant simplicity to the overall form of the car. The upright front grille, complete with hexagonal radiator grille and broad chrome surround, gives the Paceman genuine presence. Its coupé-style stretched side profile features long doors, while the blacked-out pillars create a ‘floating’ roof concept, as already seen on the MINI Coupé. Available in either black, white or body colour, the roof gently slopes towards the rear of the car, ending at the integrated spoiler. The horizontal arrangement of the rear lights, which accentuates the car’s width, is a first for MINI. The Paceman is the only member of the brand’s line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate. The car’s interior has been designed specifically for this model. Its highlight is the innovative rear seat, which has been styled around a lounge concept. Two individual chairs provide generous levels of head, shoulder and knee room with outstanding comfort and support. Armrests have been integrated into the rear trim. A two-section version of the MINI Centre Rail storage and attachment system – first seen in the Countryman – comes as standard. A full-length variant is available as an option. The Paceman is a strict four-seater, though practicality has not been sacrificed. Folding down the rear seats expands the rear load-carrying capacity from 330 litres to a maximum of 1,080 litres. Access is via a large and high-opening tailgate, offering extra practicality for owners.

In the front, the raised seating position gives the driver and passenger an excellent view in every direction. The instrument panel includes many familiar components, including the large round central speedo. However, its black surround and decorative inner rings in high-gloss black or chrome are new, as are the redesigned air vent surrounds. Buttons for the windows, which have been toggle switches below the speedo on every MINI to date, have moved to the door trim panel. MINI’s trademark go-kart handling will be a key part of the Paceman’s appeal, enhanced by the optional allwheel drive transmission. Lowered sports suspension as standard will help provide customers with an outstanding driving experience, though regular suspension and ride height are available as a no-cost option. From launch, Paceman customers will have the choice of four powerful four-cylinder engines, two petrol and two diesel. All come with a six-speed manual gearbox, or the optional six-speed automatic with Steptronic function for manual control. For buyers who want the reassuring grip that comes with four-wheel drive, MINI’s ALL4 system is available on the Cooper D, SD and Cooper S Paceman, models. And for those seeking the ultimate in MINI performance and desirability, a John Cooper Works Paceman version is in development. Outstanding occupant protection is provided by an extensive range of safety equipment including front and side airbags. Side curtain airbags are fitted in both the front and back. ISOFIX child seat attachments in the rear and a tyre pressure warning are on every Paceman. Other standard equipment includes air conditioning, powered door mirrors and front sports seats. Popular options will include Xenon Adaptive Headlights, Park Distance Control, an electrically operated glass roof plus the MINI navigation system. Advanced infotainment functions are available via MINI Connected. A range of optional equipment packages will also be available providing customers excellent value and helping to promote strong residual values. Eight exterior paint shades are available including the new Brilliant Copper and Blazing Red. Starlight Blue also previously unseen and unique to the Paceman. As always with MINI, personalisation is expected to be very popular and there is an extensive choice of bonnet stripes, upholstery variants, interior surfaces and Colour Lines. It will go sale on 16 March 2013 with prices starting at just £18,970 on the road. www.mini.com. 45

SMARTie pants! Smart is reaching for the stars.. The electrically driven Smart Forstars is a coupé with room for two people and plenty of stowage space. Its name is a tongue-in-cheek reference to the glass roof above the passengers that gives a clear view of the starry sky. At the same time it hints at the integration of a video projector in the front bonnet. The smart forstars is being premiered at the Paris Motor Show 2012 which runs until 14 October 2012. The show in the French capital is a local affair for smart as the brand’s production facility is located in Hambach, Lorraine. The colour of the expressive coupé is also a reference to the venue of the world premiere. It’s painted in the extravagant “alubeam rouge” colour that creates an appealing contrast to the matt metallic titanium colour of the tridion safety cell. And thanks to the 60 kW magneto-electric motor from the new smart BRABUS electric drive, the zero-emission smart forstars is agile and lively. smart boss Dr Annette Winkler says: “The smart is Europe’s most inexpensive series-produced electric car. Not only is it emission-free and fast, it is also possible 46 | rmmagazine.co.uk

to conveniently set the perfect interior temperature in advance with a smartphone, and it is simple to charge at a domestic socket. What’s more, with its powerful battery and integrated projector the smart forstars can transform any grey backyard into an animated open-air cinema.” The compact smart forstars (length/width/height: 3550/1710/1505 mm) is therefore not only a mobility concept with ample space for two people and a generous cargo area under the glass tailgate, it is also a communication concept that only requires a blank wall for a spontaneous cinematic experience. The media player of the projector integrated in the front bonnet is operated via Bluetooth® from an iPhone®. A high-quality sound system with additional loudspeakers in the ventilation openings behind the doors enables the drive-in cinema experience to be perfected for friends as well. The Forstar is one of many concepts showcasing at the Paris Motorshow, for more information and a full list of all companies exhibiting visit the official website: www.mondial-automobile.com/en/visitors/

JOE McELDERRY We caught up with X-factor star Joe McElderry to speak about his whirl wind adventure since appearing on the show three years ago. Having recently released his new album ‘Here’s what I believe’, we get the low down on his upcoming schedule and find out why he prefers to stay out of the limelight ... 50 | rmmagazine.co.uk

exclusive interview Hi Joe, how are you? We last caught up with you after you had finished ‘Pop-star to Opera-star’ and now you have just released your new album, how do you feel about it all? Well, it’s pretty hectic, as per usual in my life ha-ha, but it’s really exciting. I have spent a lot of time recording this one and even done song writing on it, which is a brand new thing for me. I’m quite nervous for this one, but very excited at the same time. I feel like it has been a long time coming, so I am looking forward to people hearing it now. What do you feel people will say about it, is there anything you are worried about? I’m not worried about what people will say because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I think its just quite nerve racking when you have actually wrote some of the songs. It will be quite strange everyone hearing quite personal songs, I’m used to having songs written for me, so for me it’s a new area, it actually feels like I have never recorded an album before. It’s a totally new experience and quite exciting.

...it is nice to have my base at home and go back for a bit of normality, I find it keeps me grounded... We have listened to ‘Here’s what I believe’ and we loved it! Did you want to stay away from the dance genre? Err...My first album was the dancy stuff and I will do that again as its part of my repertoire, but, I just felt the mood I was in when I was recording and the kind of style I wanted, I guess it stemmed from the musicians I was inspired by at the time. When I go to record the next album, if I feel like writing a dance/pop tune, then I will do. It’s not that I’m restricted in anyway, I just felt like this album fitted together and to put a dance track in there would have kind of thrown it off. A lot of critics have been describing it as a ‘heartbreak album’ would you agree with that? It wasn’t really intentional. But I think when you start writing songs and you get lyrics sent from other song

...I would rather people talk about my music than what I was wearing stumbling out of a nightclub... Do you feel you have seen a transformation since the X-factor, personally and musically? Totally! Musically and personally I have grown up, I am a much more mature person and a lot more trusting of my own decisions. I feel like I’m experienced enough to lead my own career and where I want to go. Before I used to think, ‘what if people think this or think that’. Whereas now I know what I want to do and where I want to go. I think I have come to that age, and three years I have been in the industry now, in the public eye and I know now how to deal with it all. I know what to do and what not to do if you know what I mean. Now I get to chose who I want to work with, and with people that all have the same vision. Do you feel like the x-factor still holds a special place in your heart? Defiantly, that’s where it all started and without the x-factor which was the platform to get me in the industry I wouldn’t be where I am today, rehearsing for four hours today I wouldn’t be able to do that! That massive HUGE platform, like a stepping stone and I will forever be thankful for that! During the show you and Cheryl Cole had a close bond, do you still keep in contact? We try to catch up with each other but it’s always impossible because we are both always in different places. We have each other’s numbers and we text each now and again to see how each other are doing. It’s nice to know people in the industry.

Where are you living at the moment? I bought a house last year in Newcastle and I stay in a rented apartment in London when I’m here. But I kind of split my time between Newcastle and London. Where ever am working then that’s where I am, so its Newcastle mainly but I do spend a lot of time in London. So are you a proper Geordie boy at heart, enjoy sticking to your roots? Erm... I’m not sure really, I love being in London, I love working in London and socialising here but it is nice to have my base at home and go back for a bit of normality, I find it keeps me grounded. So what are your plans for the future, how was your album launch, where do you go from here? We had two album launches, on the 18th September in Newcastle and 20th September in London in an intimate venue in Piccadilly which really launched the show and I have done loads of TV. I also done the Green House run for Charity. We are just in talks about going on to Italy next year! So I’m excited about that!

So everything about this album is you then? Well, yeah there are eight covers on the album and five originals which I co-wrote with other people, also, there are three more songs available if you download the deluxe album! I wrote the first ‘Here’s what I believe’ and took a lot of creative control on this one, I felt like I had experienced enough to go for it, I spent hours and hours trawling through the internet and listening to different songs. I feel like it’s my little baby, so I think that’s why I’m nervous.

writers, you go with the ones that fit all the songs that you are working with. You have got ‘When I need you’ which is one where you miss them so much even though your with them. I suppose yeah, it is kind of a love album, defiantly.

Unlike others celebrities you have been a bit reserved from the limelight, have you chosen to be like this or are just more career minded? You know, I have my friends and family, and then friends within the industry like work colleagues. And of course I go out and have a drink and get a bit drunk but I prefer not to do it in front of a load of flashing cameras, it’s just not what I am about. I would rather people talk about my music than what I was wearing stumbling out of a nightclub. I know you need to get some PR and press, but I just don’t want all the PR and press to be about me looking really drunk. 51

Since my last column I have been to Los Angeles and back! I went over to La La Land to do some songwriting and recording; it was a pretty full on schedule but a lot of fun! I met some amazing people and had the opportunity of working with some very talented writers/producers. This was my second trip, but I still jumped with joy every time I saw the Hollywood sign! One of the studios I visited had access to the rooftop where you could enjoy views of the entire city. I managed to get a day to check out Venice Beach- wowzer it was so beautiful, and HOT! There are some really cool clubs in Hollywood, too- My favourite was Sayers Club- it’s hidden at the back of a restaurant & was very secret... with the best live house band I have ever heard! The day after I flew home, Stevie Wonder was jamming in there... gutted! However, as much fun as Los Angeles was, I felt homesick this time. I actually missed Essex SO much! I’m very lucky to have the chance to travel a lot with my job, but it’s so lovely to have a base here where my friends and family are. I love that I can hop on a train and be in central london within thirty minutes, or drive five miles in another direction and be in the middle of the countryside! I really do love it here... maybe Essex really is the new LA ;)

Leddra Loves... The Body Shop! I work closely with The Body Shop, in the past they provided an amazing tour bus for my band and I, and recently we performed during one of their large conferences. It was a great laugh for me and my violinist, Kit, to be guest judges for their talent content- Body Shop’s Got Talent!

So much more than before yet so much less than expected.

Does the iPhone 5 bring something new to the table and live up to the hyoe, or is it just re-inventing the wheel? As with all ‘new releases’ from Apple it feels like we have been waiting forever for the newest must have, only to find on release its looks and feels very similar to it’s predecessor. Apple describes the iPhone 5 as “A remarkably slim design that still makes room for a larger display and a faster chip. Ultra-fast wireless that doesn’t sacrifice battery life. And all-new headphones designed to sound great and fit comfortably.” Here at RM we would have to agree it is an improvement on the 4 and if you don’t have an iPhone then this would be a great start into the world of Apple, but as for ditching your iPhone 4 and paying the £529 price tag ... we feel you may be a little dissappointed, although its a great fashion accessory! 56 | rmmagazine.co.uk

Essex Pride One of Essex finest and the youngest Centre Back to be playing week in week out spoke to us at RM... Name: Harlee Dean Age: 21 Position: Centre Back Club: Brentford FC What age did you start playing? I stared playing at the age of about 6, maybe even younger but professionally at 17 for Dagenham and Redbridge where I played as a midfielder. I then went to Southampton for two years, and after the first year they put me as a Centre back. I went to Brentford on loan from there and here I am today, playing for Brentford in League one. When did your talent get noticed? I was allowed to leave school early one day for an important match in Beckton, and that was where Dagenham and Redbridge signed me. What is your training process? Mondays: We train, but softer training concentrating more on our weaker strengths. It’s more about preparation, going to physio, stretching and in the gym. Tuesdays: A higher tempo and faster paced training. Thursday: We train and concentrate on the analysis. Look at our strengths and weakness from previous games and then analyse the team we will be playing next. Friday: We prepare for the game the next day, mentally and physically. Do you have an eating regime? At the club they advise on what to eat and when. They ensure we get enough vitamins and supplements, things like cherry active. They give us a guideline, for example when to not eat potatoes, eating them for dinner isn’t as healthy as most would think. Where we eat most meals at the club they ensure we have a variety. 58 | rmmagazine.co.uk

What about going out before matches socialising, how do you balance this? You are not allowed to drink 72 hours before a game. So some weekends I’m just professional and don’t go out, or if I do I drink water all night and it actually doesn’t bother me. I occasionally where my compression skins out too, as it helps build pressure in my legs and it helps keep my recovery time down. Do you fear getting injured? It would be awful if was to happen, but you can’t fear it otherwise you wouldn’t play to your full potential. So, no I try not to think about that ha-ha! I sometimes suffer with problems with my shins I therefore just I have ice baths and acupuncture to ensure I’m fit for the games. Do you have a back-up plan? Yeah I have because I think it is better to be prepared for the worst, so I have started buying properties in order for me to rent them out. I have bought my first one and in the process of getting it renovated into a maisonette.

What is your dream team to play for? Obviously it would be England. But it would have to be West Ham, from supporting them from such a young age, and my dad is a huge fan so it would defiantly make him proud. Who is your favourite player? It has defiantly got to be John Terry, because he is most defiantly the best centre back on his left foot. I think he is brave, a good leader and wears his heart on his sleeve, so therefore I respect him. What is your five year plan? To hopefully get promoted up to the premiership, and just personally live a good life. www.brentfordfc.co.uk

It’s that time of year again when the spine chilling ghost stories haunt you in your sleep, the creeks in the floor boards become louder and the haunted places in your county become only for the brave. RM has lined up the top 5 scariest places to visit this Halloween, but only if you dare...

Borley Rectory has gained its notorious haunted reputation after a series of residents reported unsettling phenomena. There is evidence dating back to 1362 - A monk had an affair with a nun from a nearby convent and once the affair was publicised the monk was immediately executed, the nun however was set for a slow painful death and was bricked up alive in the convent walls. With the story passed from generation to generation, the truth behind the strange happenings may never be known ... would you be brave enough to find out for yourself?

has gained the reputation of being the most haunted place in the UK, with ghost stories that stretch back hundreds of years of the village being long associated with witchcraft. Among the village stands a church, St. Nicholas. Rumour has it, if on Halloween you were to walk around the church three times in an anti-clock wise direction you are to be transported back in time. The myths of the paranormal phenomena are forever growing; will you be brave enough to seek out the witchcraft that haunts the cemetery?

On the outskirts of Epping Forest is the cache Hangman’s Hill. Most people will have heard or even experienced it for themselves, for those who haven’t been brave enough to attend. It’s a quite road that appears to have a slight hill. If you were to park at the bottom there is an illusion of you getting pulled up the hill, with rumours of a young man pulling you by his noose. Some would say the optical illusion and force of gravity are the reason behind this experience. But it’s down to you what you want to believe, its best to be experienced on nightfall and with Halloween on the horizon why not make it a date! 63
