Sue Bell founded Essex children’s charity ‘Kids Inspire’ in 2007. It is a community based organisation that aims to support vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and their families. Kids Inspire supports young people in Essex, so that they can feel valued and achieve their potential through therapy, counselling and mentoring. Our families can explore, understand and communicate their feelings. In turn this builds self-esteem, increases attainment and attendance at school and enables young people and their families to make positive choices. This process takes time and patience, but Kids Inspire is committed to turning lives around. We are supported by the patronage of Anya Hindmarch (international fashion designer). We are also the chosen charity for Rathbone Perception Media, Essex County Cricket Club, Baker labels, Subway (Chelmsford branches), Channels Golf Club and The County Hotel for 2012. We have continued to receive amazing support from local businesses, such as STV Building Services, E2V, Britvic and M&G, who have supported us through donations and amazing activities over the past year.

The RM Team

Editor’s Letter

Editor Tony Wittridge tony@rmmagazine.co.uk @tony_wittridge It’s December already, wow, where did the year go? Although I can’t say I’m not looking forward to the upcoming Christmas party season, and more specifically, the RM Christmas party! I know it’s a cliché but it’s true, time really does fly when you’re having fun, and last month was definitely another fun and extremely busy month for us. We all suffered sore heads in the morning after partying with Social Elements at Platform 7, filled our bellies at The Harrow in Hornchurch whilst tasting their new menu (it was yum) and thoroughly enjoyed An Evening of Burlesque at the Towngate centre in Basildon. Food, drink and half naked women, what more could a man ask for? In this month’s issue, Russell Kane tells us why he loves people from Essex, you can find the ideal gift in our special Ilford Exchange Christmas guide, and get a little guidance when deciding on those all important New Year’s Resolution. Probably the most exciting event happening for us this month is the launch of RM Rewards, an exclusively Essex rewards card full of offers, freebies and discounts; free beer with every hair cut anyone? Not forgetting our monthly regulars. RM Loves, the hottest gadgets and the gorgeous style of The Saturdays with Get the Look, all with a Christmas theme to get you in the mood for the upcoming festivities. We are good to you. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

exclusive interview

8 | rmmagazine.co.uk

exclusive interview

You’ve just finished recording BBC Three’s ‘Britain Unzipped’, a show all about revealing Britain’s weirdest things. What is the weirdest thing you have come across on the show? I think it’s just how scarily honest people are willing to be, if you put a camera on them they will tell you anything! They will sit there and say, ‘I have actually lied to my boss to come to the live recordings’, and it’s like, surely they are going to see this programme? You have other celebs come onto the show, have you ever had a crush on any of them? Most of ‘em! Any of the fit birds basically and I do crack on!

...we ended up doing it in the back of a cab on the way to the hotel...

The sexually obsessed motormouth took us up on a quick fire round exposing more than we bargained for and, giving us some saucy goss along with his view on featuring in TOWIE.

How are you feeling before kicking off your show tonight in Blackpool? I’m a little bit hung-over as I was still out at three o’clock clubbing with Gemma Collins. So I’m f***ed, So hopefully I will have a couple of hours in the hotel to sort myself out before the show.

You proudly promote you’re an Essex boy, what else inspires you when writing new material for your stand up shows? I actually love the place, I know a lot of people think it’s a sh*t hole, but I actually love it. I have had to rent my house out in Westcliff because of my career commitments so I am actually living in Islington at the moment, but I’m not that keen on it, so I may move to somewhere like Woodford Green. I just find the people in Essex are just so down to earth and they really say what they mean, I find they have a unique way of looking at the world. I also like it because the girls make a real effort when they go out as well, which is a bonus!

Do you prefer the ‘Essex’ Look? No, I just like someone who takes a bit of trouble before they go out, I think it’s nice.

...I will look back on myself and think...

The Award Winning comedian Russell Kane, and his cheeky Essex boy alter ego, revealed all to RM magazine this month including his crazy antics and his current tour.

Joey Essex is famous for making up random words, i.e reem. As an English Degree Genius, what would be your made-up word and what would be its meaning? Well I did call sex, ‘rumpy-pumpy’ but I’m not sure if I made that one up! ‘Shaggy Bilson’, I defiantly made that one up! Love a little bit of Shaggy Bilson! I made another one up the other day as well… one that you’re really obsessed with money, when you obsess about it to the point it makes you unwell, I call it ‘Cash Virgin’, so that’s another one for you!. Could you ever see yourself featuring in TOWIE? I would love to be in it for one scene definitely, I don’t think I could be in it a lot because it’s very time constraining, and I prefer more to commentate from the outside in, so it doesn’t really fit with what I do. But I would love to be in it just once, at an event in Sugar Hut or doing a gig on it or something. Plus I’m already mates with Gemma! You sound like a busy man, but when you do have a moment’s peace ,what is it that you most love to do? I honestly don’t get any time! I have worked every day and every night for the past 16 days. I’m either sleeping or on stage, literally! Like last night I had a gig to do before I went out, so I am literally working my nuts off at the moment. If I do have time off I just like to watch a movie and chill out in my onesie. But I do like going out clubbing after a gig. Like last week, I was with my mum and my friend was DJing at Sugarhut, so we had a table next to his booth and we had a wicked night; they really looked after us in there.

exclusive interview

After uninspiring drug-assisted exam failures, I ended up working in a shop. Then I thought: “Sod this, what’s Nineteenth Century Realism like?” and went and got a gleaming First in English. After that I worked in an office for bit - and that’s when it happened... A dare. A curiosity. A one off. A ‘let’s see what’ll happen’. And I had a go at stand-up comedy.

Biggest Guilty Pleasure Probably watching a really soppy rom-com, something like Marley and Me and tucking into some Ben & Jerry’s, or watching every minute of the X-factor and generally enjoying it! Girls Aloud or the Spice Girls Girls Aloud, Obviously! Biggest Fashion Mistake Well, I’m probably in it at the moment. My hair, not yet but in a few years time I will look back and definitely say it was my hair. I will look back on myself and think what a w**nker! Grooming Secrets I just take really, really good care of my skin. I look a bit younger for my age anyway, so I am clinging onto it. If you can get hold of it, there is a moisturiser called ABST, you start at level one and there are five levels. It takes you a year to complete the course. I’m only on level four! Favourite drink Alcoholic or non-alcoholic? Ha-ha. I love freshly squeezed orange juice, proper orange juice, so when you put the oranges in the machine and when you’re on holiday with a hangover in Ibiza, it’s just amazing. And I love the bits in it too! Alcoholic, I would have to say a nice cold San Miguel, sitting watching the sunset at café Mambo or an espresso martini to kick off the night!

10 | rmmagazine.co.uk

Hidden Talents Err, I just tell everyone everything so I don’t actually think I have got anything hidden! I’m brainier than I let on I suppose, which is not cool! I can write in Shakespearian blank verse at will, but that isn’t going

to be hidden for much longer as I am going to be doing something with BBC Three next year. Keep your eyes peeled BBC Three people!!

What’s your most memorable drunken cab journey home? HA! It would probably be the one where I was shagging! It was a while back, and we went out after filming a well-known TV Programme and ended up doing it in the back of a cab on the way to the hotel. And that is as much information as I am going to give you! Will you miss not being involved in ‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here… Now’? I am a bit gutted actually, and I am really happy for Rob who would have been my number one choice. I will recommend him so loudly and I’m so proud that he got it, but at the same time I really envy him for being there. But with my tour, I think I have got bigger stuff for me to be doing, like solo stuff and I had to make a choice.

Our readers want to get to know you, so here’s a quick fire round of questions ...3...2...1...go!

...people in Essex are just so down to earth and they really say what they mean...

How is the tour going? I love it! You see you do 15-20 previews in May, June and July before you kick-start the tour and then another 15-20 warm-ups, and so by the time it gets to next March I would have done it over 100 times. We are also looking at doing a charity gig, for Ray of Sunshine, so I really hope that happens. That day I will be doing the show twice, one for charity and the other to pay my mortgage. One of the gigs in Colchester has actually even sold out which makes me proud!

As the before and after pictures show, we transformed this young man’s smile in to something that he thought would NEVER be possible. With Dr Jas’ years of experience in Cosmetic dentistry there is no smile we cannot transform! Many dentists refer to Dr Jas for complex dental treatments. In this case we placed invisible braces for a short period followed by our special cosmetic veneers. I am sure you will all agree that they do not even resemble the original smile?

I can give you the “perfect smile”

Thank you for your wonderful treatment and my now perfect looking teeth. I’m one of many that are petrified of the dentist, so it took me at least 6 months to pluck up the courage to come for a consultation. My old dentist told me my teeth were beyond repair, which is not something that you want to hear when you’re 28 years old. So this was a big step for me. I can only say I’m so glad I made that first step, as the treatment I received was first class. From the initial consultation, where everybody was extremely friendly, to the cost and action plan that was put together for me it was easily explained, especially the part when I was told it was going to be pain free. Believe me it really was pain free. Every appointment with you guys was never a chore and I actually enjoyed every visit, never have I said that about a dentist before. I would 100% recommend your services to anyone who will listen, as not only have you restored my broken and quite frankly horrific teeth, but you have also restored my confidence, especially at a time when self esteem was already pretty low. The treatment on my teeth looked like they have always belonged to me and so natural too. When I tell people what work I had done they actually don’t believe me, that’s how good they look. So thank you all again for my new smile, my new found confidence and making me feel pretty again. Your wonderful support and the treatment I received was fantastic.

I can give you the “perfect smile”

The

Harrow

If you love gastro pub food and real ale, The Harrow is just your sort of place. Already one of the most popular pub restaurants in hornchurch, the harrow has always been renowned for it’s beer garden in the summer, without a doubt the perfect way to spend a lazy day socialising with your friends and family.

Now after spending over a quarter of a million pounds refurbishing; RM were invited down to taste test the new menu and give our verdict on our new local pub. First impressions are everything and impressed we were, it’s amazing to think that everything has been done in just one week! It still has the amazing beer garden, ample car parking and the familiar relaxed atmosphere but somehow seems so much more open, the restaurant now seats 141 people so plenty of seating whether you are looking for a quick bite to eat or dining out for a special occasion. Anyone that has been to the Harrow prior to its refurbishment will know how popular it is and with a popular venue comes queues. Thankfully the clever people at Ember Pub and Dining have overcome this by offering a waitress style service meaning you can order from your table! So back to the food, when I say their new menu has something for everyone I really mean it, we took a good few minutes digesting the menu before we made our decisions. In the end went with a selection of new meals and classic pub grub. Three courses was a lot to handle as the portions are large but it was too nice to leave. We highly recommend you get yourself down there, winner of numerous awards this really is the place to be!

Goodfellas Italian Barbers

Contemporary Hair Design For Men by

Adam & Gianni

MY Key Britain’s best-selling new Ford Fiesta will be the first car in the UK to feature Ford’s MyKey technology, which enables parents to place restrictions on younger drivers to promote safer driving. MyKey enables owners to programme a key – usually for younger drivers – that restricts the top speed of the Fiesta, reduces the maximum volume of the audio system, and even disables the audio system altogether if driver and passengers are not using safety belts. It can also prevent the driver from deactivating safety technologies such as Electronic Stability Control and Active City Stop, which can help mitigate or prevent low-speed collisions. “All parents know that if teenagers are experts at one thing, it’s finding ways of getting into trouble,” said Ford’s European MyKey system architect, Peter Patzelt. “MyKey allows Fiesta owners to set sensible restrictions for young drivers, and delivers peace-of-mind for parents.”

T: 01708 222555 “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all our customers” Goodfellas Barbers 141, St. Marys Lane, Upminster, RM14 3BL (Next to Lloyds TSB)

Opening Times: Mon-Wed: 8.30am - 6.30pm Thurs: 8.30am - 7.30pm Fri: 8.30am - 6.30pm Sat: 8.00am - 5.00pm Sun: 9.30am - 2.30pm

The launch comes as the Government confirms it will take action to improve road safety among young drivers. The MyKey system forms part of the new Fiesta’s safety and driver assistance package that also includes SYNC Emergency Assistance and Ford’s Intelligent Protection System with seven airbags. MyKey was first introduced by Ford in the US, and is now standard on most new North American Ford vehicles. MyKey also now features as standard equipment across much of the new Fiesta range, and Ford ultimately plans to roll-out the technology across its European product line-up by 2015. MyKey works by recognising different keys for the same car and then adjusting the vehicle settings according to the owner’s requirements. It also enables owners to programme chimes to sound at set points between 40-80mph, prevents seatbelt reminders from being disabled and delivers an earlier low-fuel warning. The survey of more than 6,000 parents of young drivers across Europe found 53 per cent of parents would be more likely to allow a teenage son or daughter to drive their car if it was equipped with MyKey technology. SLS Black Series

The new SLS AMG Coupé Black Series boasts a fascinating mix of breath-taking design, outstanding driving dynamics and uncompromising lightweight construction in accordance with the “AMG Lightweight Performance” strategy. The AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine generates a power output of 631 hp, accelerates to 60mph in just 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 189 mph!

The design of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series derives a special authenticity from its similarity to the SLS AMG GT3 customer sport racing car. The gull-wing racing car developed in accordance with FIA GT3 rules has quickly become established as a serious contender among the super sports car elite. In the 2012 motorsport season the SLS AMG GT3 is competing in more than 15 series on four continents. The triple victory in the 24-hour Dubai race in January 2012, three driver and team titles in the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters and the FIA GT3 World Championship along with numerous places on the podium at various shortdistance, 4- and 6 hour races demonstrate the SLS AMG GT3’s sporty performance in impressive style. To date, the car has notched up 37 victories in the 2012 season (as per 28 October 2012). Wide flared wings create the necessary space for the huge sports wheels and tyres. Darkened headlamps and black surrounds for the rear lights provide the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series with a muscular and aggressive look. The vehicle’s aerodynamic balance is optimised by the front apron and rear apron with diffuser along with side sill panels in Black Series-specific design featuring carbon fibre-reinforced plastic front splitter, carbon

52 | rmmagazine.co.uk

inserts in the side sills and the rear apron made of carbon fibre. The enlarged air intakes with carbon-fibre flics additionally ensure an optimum air inflow into the cooling modules at the front.

As on the SLS AMG GT3, the carbon-fibre bonnet features a central air outlet. The wing-like cross-fin and the star recess in the radiator grille are finished in highgloss black to match the exterior mirrors and the fins on the bonnet. The carbon-fibre insert on the sides, with an air outlet and a black fin is also reminiscent of the GT3; this feature also helps to reduce the temperature level in the engine compartment. The upshot is maximum stability, even in tough race track use. A functional, sporty racing-car atmosphere is prevalent inside the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series, with highquality materials demonstrating precision workmanship and exquisitely designed details. There is a choice of two colour variants: Alcantara® black or Alcantara® black/red. With the two-tone variant, the door centre panels and the applications on the centre console and above the glove compartment are finished in red. The AMG Performance steering wheel with flat- bottomed rim section features Alcantara® all round for a good grip. In the top section the steering wheel features a sporty red 12 o’clock marking. The real metal bezel features a high-gloss black paint finish to match the high-gloss black surrounds of the air vents. A particularly high-quality and exclusive Black Series detail is the so-called “3D seam” which runs horizontally along the dashboard: a fine Alcantara® strip in anthracite features across the entire width of the leather covering. Red contrasting stitching in the leather lends an accomplished

finish to the 3D seam, underscoring the interior’s handcrafted character. The combination of designo leather and Alcantara® features throughout the interior – on the bottom section of the dashboard, for example, on the door centre panels and on the AMG sports bucket seats, whose centre sections are covered with Alcantara®. Embossed AMG emblems on the head restraints are further exclusive eye-catchers. In addition to providing first-class lateral support at high cornering speeds, the AMG sports bucket seats are also 15 kilograms lighter than the standard AMG sports seats. The absence of the COMAND APS multimedia system reduces the vehicle’s weight by an additional six kilograms as a further demonstration of the SLS AMG Coupé Black Series’ uncompromisingly purist character. In place of the screen between the air vents, a carbon-fibre trim element exudes an authentic racing atmosphere. COMAND APS is optionally available. The vehicle’s occupants will also discover the motorsport material carbon fibre on the entire centre console with the AMG DRIVE UNIT. Bold highlights are added by red seat belts and red contrasting stitching on the AMG sports bucket seats, the centre console, the upper and lower section of the dashboard and the door panelling. The floor mats similarly feature red edging. The car will be available to order from 2013, contact your local dealer for more information.

We all think that boring old white fridges should be put out to pasture as the cow sticker kit is utterly brilliant! www.therandomshop.co.uk

The Love Glove This ingenious (and just a bit ridiculous) woollen mitten has two hand holes – one for you and one for your other half. Just slip it on and the pair of you can walk around in even the chilliest of weathers with your hands firmly clasped together. But what about your other hand? Well, The Smitten also comes with a pair of gloves for you and your partner to share, too! www.firebox.com

An evening of Burlesque! RM Magazine were invited down to An Evening of Burlesque to enjoy a night of glamour and glitz on Friday 2nd November at Towngate theatre! With the performers delivering varied routines involving fire eating, , hula hooping, ballet tassel-twirling and feather dances all with the art of strip tease. Women in Business

Katrina Gilbert, Yvonne Bendall and Linda Watson

Hello again Ladies and welcome once again to my world! How many of you understand the power that networking can have on your business, and more importantly, to you? I often hear people say that they don’t see the point of networking, but believe me, it’s one of the most powerful tools we have. It isn’t easy for many of us to approach strangers, and many people tend to gravitate towards the people they know. This means you’ll miss some great opportunities.

• Builds relationships • Helps you understand your market better, talking with like minded people • You connect with potential customers • Establish yourself as an expert in your particular field • Little Gems-Most networking events have guest speakers who say something that really makes you think. Possibly just a one line sentence but worth its weight in gold. • You get FREE advice And finally……. • You find people like you!

I have put together some key action points as to why networking is so valuable to your business. This information stood me in good stead when I first set out on the networking arena. Despite the success of social media, I have done more business with people I have met.

The next Women in Business, held at Havering College, we’ll have a great speaker to inspire and build your confidence. Plus the opportunity to speed network. It’s always a great evening.

Networking is: • An opportunity to connect with real people. Despite the success of social media, I do more business with people I have met.

To register please call 01708 432047.

Come and join me on 12th December 2012 at 5.30pm.

Name: Charlotte Knight Age: 22 Occupation: Student Charlotte talks to RM Magazine about her new headwear range!

G

inge London is an up and coming independent unique, high end street wear brand based in Essex.

I got the idea for Ginge London last year when I was looking for a snapback to wear at a summer festival. I was looking for one that was a little bit different but was fashionable and affordable at the time. Unable to find something on the high street, I decided to customise a plain snapback with some studs that I bought online. I decided to start producing the hats on a larger scale because a lot of people were coming up to me asking where I had gotten my hat from. I have also customised some beanie hats for friends for the festival so I decided to produce those as well! Fast forward a few months, and my website is now live with beanies ready to buy and snapbacks soon to drop in December. I also plan to expand my line with bringing out new styles, and a clothing line for the future.” Facebook: Facebook.com/gingelondon Twitter: @ginge_london Website: www.gingelondon.com

UNSIGNED:JOE COX X Factor was an utterly surreal and flattering experience-

But I’m doing it my way now

ARTIST PROFILE HOMETOWN: Upminster, Essex

INFLUENCES: James Morrison, Ed Sheeran, James Brown

“I am just excited about making music, the rest will follow” - Joe H a v i n g i m p r e ss e d t h e n a t i o n w i t h h i s c h a r m i n g v o i ce d u r i n g l a s t y e a r ’ s X F a c t o r , U p m i n s t e r l a d J o e C o x i s b a c k fo r m o r e . Joe made it through to the Judges Houses stage during the last series, where he sang for mentor Gary Barlow and the King of Pop, Robbie Williams. Sadly though, he would not have the chance to perform at the live shows…but his story doesn’t end there. Working hard on his debut album, Joe gave RM an insight to what’s in store for this Essex boy. The whirlwind experience of the X Factor is something that can make or break an aspiring musician. Joe was devastated when he didn‘t make it through last year. “Returning home was tough, I had my hopes taken away and it felt as though there was no way up.” The hard reality of the show is that acts are filled with excitement and opportunity, shouldered with expectation and pressure, and given the promise of a fast-track to fame that can be snatched away abruptly.

Looking at the history though, winning the competition is not the only route to success. Joe’s experience has given him exposure, a platform to show off his talent and a taste of fame that has made him even hungrier for it. Brushing himself down, he has got back on his feet and now has the freedom to produce music that he believes in - something that may not have been possible had he progressed further with X Factor. Today he talks about his first EP, Raw, which he has written and recorded on his own terms, “I am very much focused on my music and making it the way I want to. This is a power I won’t ever have taken from me.” The tracks have been made to show off Joe’s soulful voice, while also carrying a message about the kind of artist he is, “I wanted my debut to be very stripped back and honest. No gimmicks.” Raw is available on iTunes now. Joe’s first single following the release of his EP is Back and Forth, out December 2nd. With a debut album and tour expected in 2013, the singer has a lot to look forward to for the new year.

Feeling crafty and creative this festive season? Be original and impress the family with your super slick sticking skills. Make your loved ones their very own Christmas stocking, tree decorations or gift tags, especially for them, and with your bare hands. Aww.

Just remember to wash your hands after all that gluing...

Felt and Fabric Stockings Red and White Felt Stocking

seam allowance for sewing up.

Using a template as a guide, cut out two white stockings with pinking shears, approx 40 cm (top to heel) and one red stocking, slightly smaller in size.

Choose the fabrics for the ‘front’ of your stocking and cut into 15 strips of assorted widths which will be sewn together to form the stocking shape.

Cut out 3 circles from the red stocking, then lay it on top of one of the white stockings and attach by using a simple running stitch 1 cm in from the edge in a contrasting colour thread.

What You Need:

Felt - plain and sparkly Assorted fabric Pinking shears Buttons Needle and contrasting embroidery thread Fabric glue Embellishments – buttons, beads, bells, pom poms Sewing machine 60 | rmmagazine.co.uk

Decorate each of the white circles by sewing on a selection of different shaped buttons. Join your stocking by stitching both white pieces together, finishing off with a button embellishment and a ribbon for hanging.

Stripey Patchwork Stocking Using the template as a guide, cut out one stocking which will form the ‘back’ of your stocking remembering to allow a 1 cm

Remember when cutting your strips to mark a 0.5 cm seam allowance with a washable pen/ pencil, which you will use when sewing your strips together to give you even seams. Using the image as a guide, sew 9 of the strips together to form the top fabric piece of the stocking, then sew the remaining 6 strips together to make the heel and toe fabric piece of the stocking. Sew the two top and heel fabric pieces together at a diagonal angle and stitch a seam across the top. Draw then cut round the template on top of your two joined fabric pieces to form the stocking shape, leaving a 1

cm seam allowance for sewing together. Put the wrong sides of your two stocking pieces together and follow the 1 cm seam allowance sewing to form the finished shape. Add a ribbon for hanging and any accessories of your choice.

Christmas Trees and Village Felt Stockings Using a template as a guide, cut out two white stockings with pinking shears, roughly 40cm (top to heel). To decorate your stocking, cut out felt Christmas trees and houses then stitch together and glue in place. Join your stocking by stitching both white pieces together, finishing off with some bells, a pom pom and ribbon for hanging.

Mr. Sandman A scented holiday greeting that moonlights as an ornament. Scented with holiday spices, our scroll-bearing sandpaper-gingerbread folks couldn’t be a more inviting way to get out the word about your cookiemaking party. And when they’re finished with their party come-hithers, these charming messengers can moonlight as tree ornaments. To cover the unglamorous back of the sandpaper, coat it with glue, press on the construction paper, and flatten it under a book to dry.

Pleated Paper Angels

Rub the sandpaper hard all over with the cinnamon stick and then with the nutmeg; this will scent it deliciously.

For the wings, first measure and cut a 16cm x 16cm piece of bright card. Score at 1cm intervals along the length of the paper and fold in an accordian style. Bind some beading wire around the middle, and twist the ends to hold in place. Carefully separate the folds creating 2 fans. Tie a length of a contrasting coloured organza ribbon around the middle of the wings, knot and thread on a wooden bead ‘head’. Make a pleated skirt using a 16cm x 12cm piece of pleated card. Bind some wire around the top of the fan, and cover with an organza ribbon bow. Glue the skirt beneath the middle of the angels wings. Stick a contrasting coloured button over the spot where they meet.

What You Need:

Bright Card Bright Buttons 9mm wide Bright Organza Ribbon Wooden Beads Silver Beading Wire Glue

What You Need:

Sandpaper (finer grits are easier to cut) Glue and brown construction paper Cinnamon stick and whole nutmeg Gingerbread person cookie cutter Pencil and scissors Cardboard Puffy paint Hole punch Ribbon, 1/8-inch wide 2 1/2- by 8-inch strips of paper (one per invitation) Envelope

Now make a template by tracing around the cookie cutter onto cardboard and cutting out the shape. Trace around the template on the back of the sandpaper and cut out as many people as you need (we got about four gingerbread people per 9- by 11-inch sheet of sandpaper). Use puffy paint to add details and decorations and let the paint dry. With a hole punch, make a hole in the top of the head and one in the hand, then thread a length of ribbon through the head and knot. Now write your invitation on the strip of paper, roll it scroll-like, and fit it through the cookie person’s hand. Flatten the scroll slightly and pop the cookie person in an envelope.

R E S O L U T I O N S

Are you one of many that continue every year to write a list of resolutions, setting a goal for yourself that deep down, you know is just unrealistic? We all do it, and at the end of January we only end up disappointing ourselves; we knew we weren’t really going to give up chocolate! The New Year is about looking to the future and highlighting the positives in life and thinking about the changes you would like to make, with that in mind RM are here to remind you that 2013 has got to be bigger and better than the last.

1.

Stop Smoking

Take the plunge this year. Whatever it takes - cold turkey, the patch, nicotine gum - 2013 is the year to quit. There is overwhelming evidence that cigarettes cause fatal illnesses. Save years of your life and quit smoking, meaning more years for partying!

2.

Spend More Time with Friends and Family

Many of you wish that you could make more time for friends and family. This year, make your resolution come true by setting aside time on the weekends or after work. Try to have a family dinner with all the members in your family a couple of times each week and make an effort to meet up with friends after work and in the evenings.

3.

Smile more at strangers

After the success of the Olympics and the unity it brought to the Country, why not continue to spread smiles throughout 2013. It will make you feel stronger and will maybe even make someone else’s day!

4.

Ta k e u p a h o b b y

This could be anything of your wildest desires, from cross-stitching to jet skiing, or cooking to reading more books. Choosing a hobby may be a hard decision of something realistic to keep up, but if you enjoy something put more time aside to do it!

5.

Save your pennies!

Understand that money will only stay in my bank if I stop buying so many shoes... and bags... and dresses... and jeans... and cute little tops...

6.

Make sure you pick up ever y issue of RM Magazine! To ensure you get your monthly Essex fix, with the latest trends, celeb gossip, gadget guides, competitions, Go30 gym guide and Dr Jas.

The good, the bad and the crazy... From weird to wonderful here are some of the resolution solutions RM received... -- I will stop saying, “Ooh, that feels nice” whenever the security guys frisk me at airports. -- Only check Facebook two times a day. It’s time to prove to yourself Mark Zuckerberg does not control your life. -- I will stop peeping at my boyfriend’s female friends’ profile on Facebook. -- I will stop staring at my gorgeous fitness instructor, so, I will become more focused on my fitness and will spend more time in the gym. -- Lose weight by finding a more accurate scale.
