Retention of Examination Papers & Term Papers

Examination papers and term papers which are not returned to the student by the end of the semester should be retained by the instructor for at least one full additional semester.

Official Transcripts

Transcripts of their permanent record are issued to students and former students of Southwestern or may be sent directly to other institutions upon written request. All requests for transcripts must be in writing to the Records Office and signed by the student or former student. Telephone requests are not accepted, but signed fax requests will be honored. No transcript of credits, statement of standing, diploma, or application for a teacher’s certificate will be granted to individuals who are financially in arrears with the University.

Course Evaluations

Members of the faculty request that students evaluate their courses on the forms provided for that purpose. These evaluations are sometimes used to assist senior faculty members and the Provost in their evaluations of a faculty member’s teaching effectiveness, but they also serve the important purpose of allowing faculty members to learn what students think about the courses they take. The constructive criticism contained in these evaluations is intended to assist a faculty member in improving the quality of his or her teaching.

Eligibility for Off-Campus Study

Any student applying for any off-campus academic experience (including internships, study abroad programs or other semester- or year-long off-campus study) must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average at the time of application and/or acceptance into any given program, including those run by Southwestern University. Academic performance will be reviewed upon acceptance into any given program.

Student Leave of Absence

Southwestern University students in good standing may take a student leave of absence by completing the Request for Student Leave of Absence form available in the Center for Academic Success and Records. After review, in consultation with the appropriate academic advisors and deans, and approval by the Assistant Dean for Academic Success and Director of Records, a student leave of absence may be granted for up to one academic year. 1. A student leave of absence may be granted for a program of work, study, or travel that will contribute significantly to a student’s personal development (or program of study at Southwestern University). In addition, a leave may be granted for personal reasons including, but not limited to, medical, financial, or health. 2. The Request for Student Leave of Absence form must be submitted to
