In order to showcase Taiwan’s value, GACC also hosts the “Presidential Cultural Award ” to honor the exceptional achievements and contribution of the award recipient, which also epitomizes the Taiwan spirit. The exhibitions utilize modern, interactive technology to showcase the diverse range of local Taiwanese culture. “Fountain” exists in two forms, both as a physical magazine and a website. As a cultural media, “Fountain” explores cultural issues vital to Taiwan and serves as a platform for dialogue across different cultural disciplines, in the hope that the multi-faceted Taiwanese culture can have even more space of encouraging catalysts for interaction and further creativity.

Cultural Exchanges

GACC has been a long-time proponent for cross-strait cultural exchanges. To date, it has published the “Chinese Language Thesaurus” and created the “ Chinese Language Knowledge Database,” so that all Chinese language users can have a more substantial basis for further dialogues. In the future, it will continue to focus on promoting exchanges in the form of academic conferences, arts and cultural exhibitions and performances, creative cultural industry and audiovisual publications.

International Activ ities: Fa

The General Association of Chinese Culture (GACC) is located in South Taipei. During the era of Japanese rule, the Office of the Taiwan Governor-General was established in the outskirts of Taipei, serving as a demonstration area for modern urban development, industry development, and national education. After the retrocession, South Taipei, formerly the residential area of the Japanese, was gradually transformed into the dormitory district for middle to senior civil servants and teachers. Paradigm Education was implemented in South Taipei, cultivating elementary school, high school, and university teachers. Subsequently, social education institutions were created, including National Museum of History, National Taiwan Science Education Center (now the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, Taipei Branch) , Teachers’ Hostel, Postal Museum, and Taiwan Central Library (now the National Taiwan Arts Education Center). Consequently, the region is steeped in culture and history, and it is an epitome of urban development and transformation. Getting acquainted with Taipei and reinvigorating the culture and arts in South Taipei has become the common cultural and artistic vibe in the city. In 2014 and 2015, GACC organized the Taipei South Town Art Festival in South Taipei for two years in a row by bringing together museums and community stores to participate in varies art events and forms. The festival lasted over a month, evoking a sense of history and pride among the locals, making it an event for bringing the community together, continuing traditions and innovating the South Taipei culture. The festival has become a common memory of the nearby venues and community stores.

Program: In addition to continuing the splendid memories of the past, the 2018 South Taipei Fun Carnival aspires to begin an unprecedented South Taipei cultural new movement. Within the boundaries of South Taipei, GACC will launch a series of family-themed music, theater, cinema and bazaar activities during April 1-8, 2018 and the Children’s Day holiday, starting with the “Adventure through Time” exhibition at the South Taipei Space No. 1 on the 1st floor of GACC. Furthermore, surrounding venues are joined together to conduct interactive games, and the entire South Taipei region is consolidated to create 5 new experiential adventures, combining seeing, hearing, tasting, smelling, and touching. The public is invited to take a stroll to South of Taipei over the course of several days, to appreciate the brand new appearance of the land. Through participating the diverse cultural activities, the government/private organizations, local stores, and community residents will come together and form a common cultural entity that continues to visit and hold proactive dialogues with this land, thereby continuing to explore the history of South Taipei and allowing visitors to enjoy LOHAS lifestyle.

Spring So Good Market

South Taipei Melodies

Time、Date │ 4/6、4/7 10:00-18:30 Venue | Quanzhou Street (Nanhai Road to Ningbo W. Street)

Time、Date │ 4/6、4/7 13:30-17:30 Venue| The lawn next to National 228 Memorial Museum

In promoting the concept of green friendly consumption, the market consists of a wide selection of eco-friendly handicrafts and produce from local farmers. There is also an emphasis on the issue of life and the protection of animals, therefore, various animal rights organizations are invited to set up stalls in the market, where will be large floor games and animal adoptions, children will learn to respect life, making the market meaningful.

The market is divided into four major areas

Life Education

We i nv i t e a n i m a l r i g h t s a n d life equality groups to help people of all ages to learn to respect and cherish the value of life through easy understanding stories and interactive games. Animal adoption activity will be held at the scene.

Garden City

We have brou ght together loca l farmers who devote to sustainable agriculture, and let them interact and communicate directly with the consumers in the market. Besides understanding the background and stories behind these outstanding farmers in Taiwan, consumers also have an opportunity to learn the idea of eating seasonal peoduce. Eating genuine food is a daily practice of maintaining health in a natural manner.

Friendly Environment

As long as they are dismantled, repaired and stored properly, abandoned objects can be reused. This attitude will ensure that people can make the best use of everything. Furthermore, we should buy items that are made with natural, eco-friendly, or regenerated materials so they can be broken down naturally and returned to the environment. Let us be friendly to the environment start from our everyday life.

Creative Handicraft

Handicraft artists have combined their sense of value with things they are passionate about, where appropriate elements in life are selected and turned into works of art. Their artworks are imbued with design through hands on technique such as sewing, cutting, pasting and painting. While sharing and selling their creations in the market, their stories also become part of people’s lives.

24

On a warm sunny spring afternoon, people can kick back on the lawn while swaying to the rhythm of music. During the holiday afternoon, lawn concerts will be hosted to introduce the beauty of the music to the public. Old school performers with a unique flair or nostalgic demeanor are invited to present their diverse musical styles, attracting people to visit South Taipei and appreciate the rich cultural atmosphere. With the instrumental band playing in the background, the melodies reverberates through the air creating a refreshing and brisk ambiance in South City that is as pleasant as blossom flowers.

The main character Panay teaches tribe youth to never give up protecting one’s homeland by oneself with her gentle and insist action.
