ENCHANTED EVENING

November 30, 2012 Log in to ssymca.org for more details!

Meet our new Youth & Family Director

I am so excited to join the Quincy YMCA as the Director of the Youth and Family Department! As a parent to two small children and a veteran of the YMCA, it is especially exciting to me that the Quincy Branch is placing a focus on expanding and improving the programs available to our loyal family members. Since 2004 I have held leadership positions running Youth Sports, Camp, Child Watch (Babysitting) and Child Care with other YMCA’s.

The Youth and Family Department is responsible for providing quality enrichment programs for children as well as providing their caregivers the time to workout and take care of themselves with the comfort of knowing their children are in good hands and enjoying constructive play and socialization. My own children have been coming to the Y since they were infants and I am grateful for their connection to this wonderful organization.

It is my passion to deliver QUALITY programming that benefits our members beyond just coming to work out. Please watch for new programs in Youth & Family, Birthday Parties and the Playroom, as well as updates to existing programs! And, please don’t hesitate to stop and introduce yourself to me, I look forward to getting to know our members!!

Warm regards, Marie mlenane@ssymca.org

Germantown Neighborhood Center Since 1982, the Germantown Neighborhood Center (GNC) has been providing critical support services, needed resources, programs and workshops to the youth and families of the Germantown and neighboring communities of Quincy. Located within one of Quincy’s largest public housing developments, the GNC serves a community of mostly low-income, single-parent households and works with support and guidance from the South Shore YMCA to identify and develop strategies to address community needs. Our youth programs give kids a safe environment where they can grow and learn positive values that they will carry with for a lifetime. Women’s programs are designed to get women out of the house and build relationships with other women who are in the same situation. Childcare and dinner are often provided. Women are encouraged to bring the whole family while mom engages in skill-building workshops with other women. Our food pantry serves residents all over the City of Quincy with food assistance. The Holiday Assistance program lifts a burden off the shoulders of many families during a time that is even more difficult financially. We are constantly trying to raise more money, add more programs, and do all that we can to help. Our programs and services work toward giving community members the skills, confidence, and resources to take action and improve their lives. For more Information visit www.ssymca.org/Germantown or call 617-376-1384.

** the Partnership Program is limited to participants without dementia, confusion, Alzheimer’s Disease, medical psychiatric problems, and intellectual/developmental disabilities. Individuals with mental disabilities are welcome to join the South Shore YMCA on condition that they provide their own volunteer (i.e. family, friend, day program/group home staff, or care giver). Sheryl Rosa, Partnership Program Director, will design the member’s exercise program and train the volunteer. Each participant is subject to an assessment of appropriate mental and physical skills required to safely participate in a physical fitness program at the South Shore YMCA.
