CAMP BURGESS & HAYWARD OVERNIGHT CAMP & TEEN ADVENTURE TRIPS CAPE COD - SUMMER 2014

OVERNIGHT CAMPING

SANDWICH, MA Beautiful pine forests. Glimmering fresh waters. Fun and adventure at every turn. Welcome to overnight Camp on Cape Cod, where learning new skills and developing lifelong friendships are a part of the daily routine in this magnificent landscape. We see year after year that our campers not only have a memorable and life changing experience with us, but that the impact of Camp lasts far beyond the singing, campfires and games. Our campers go home with a greater sense of themselves and the confidence to do great things.

Camp Burgess for boys and Camp Hayward for girls are

traditional brother-sister overnight camps located on opposite shores of Spectacle Pond. Along with our Co-ed Camp in August, our one and two week overnight sessions provide campers with an engaging and supportive environment that encourages hands-on learning, skill building, leadership, and an appreciation for the natural world. Our co-ed Teen Adventure Trips overnight program has its own Base Camp living quarters located at Camp Burgess. With a variety of one and two-week options, teens have the opportunity to partake in amazing excursions and service projects around Cape Cod and beyond. For more than 80 years, Camp Burgess and Hayward has consistently strived to offer the best possible overnight Camp experience to the nearly 2,000 children and young adults who attend our programs each summer. Our goal is to provide each camper with tools that we feel every happy and healthy person should receive early in life:

• Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of every camper

• Healthy Living: Promoting health and well-being through activity, nutrition, and the building of strong relationships

• Social Responsibility: Giving back to the community and preserving the environment

Take a look at our pictures and stories. Share in the joy that makes our Camp one of the most successful overnight programs in the country. We hope to hear from you soon. Enjoy the tour!

LEADERSHIP

OUR GREAT STAFF Leadership is the key to our success and the reason why many of our campers return summer after summer. Camp’s diverse and experienced staff includes college students, peer leaders, teachers and activity specialists from within the USA and around the world. Each summer our Camp is represented by nearly twenty countries, and each staff member brings a little bit of their culture to share with the campers. Prior to the summer all staff undergo a thorough background check and then participate in an extensive week-long training program that includes safety and emergency procedures, policies, traditions, games and problem solving. Parents, rest assured, your children are being cared for by our very capable staff.

NED R A E L I ER D A E L A TO BE Campers grow as leaders as they learn to be responsible for themselves and the group as a whole. From helping to plan activities and taking on various tasks inside the cabin, to finding ways to help your team succeed in reaching your goals, campers develop in ways that will serve them long after the final campfire.

“Camp is a place where I can be me. But not only that, Camp has changed me too. I’ve become a person that I like better, that is friendlier, kinder and crazier. Ultimately more confident too. Camp makes me feel good about myself and makes me want to help others.” - CIT 2012

FRIENDSHIP I LEARNED END I R F A E B TO From the moment you arrive at camp, new friendships are being made, ones that last a lifetime for many of the campers. This is what overnight camp is all about. Kids come here to build self-esteem and to forge face-to-face connections with other youth from a variety of backgrounds.

“The thing that I will remember most about Camp are the friends and people that I met. My cabin mates were so fun to live with and hang out with all around camp. I hope some of them come back next summer too.

- Sam D.

Teen Adventure Trips is a co-ed overnight program that offers one and two-week sessions for youth ages 12-17. With a variety of Trips, teens have the opportunity to create the experience that is right for them. Adventure, service learning and leadership are at the core of everything that we do, and we strive to foster a safe and structured environment that empowers teens to reach their fullest potential. Our programs take teens around Cape Cod and the Islands. We also offer an exclusive two-week Leadership Program to Northern Ireland. Come join us for the experience of a lifetime!

NORTHERN IRELAND LEADERSHIP Behold, our international Counselor-In-Training program, where youth ages 14-17 have the opportunity to embark on the experience of a lifetime and take an active leadership role in a new community, all while getting abundant time to explore and sightsee in Northern Ireland. This program consists of completing an initial service project at Camp Burgess; assisting at a Northern Irish music, dance and film residential camp called Camp Rock; and implementing day programs at the local Portrush Youth Centre. No music, dance or film experience is necessary—just a fun, positive attitude as well as a passion for working with young people. Get ready for an exciting trip that introduces you to one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

MINI-ADVENTURES For some teens, a 6-day adventure is simply not enough, and we agree! That is why our program offers a Mini-Adventure Weekend between trips. For only $75, this option is available to teens who prefer an extended experience or individuals who would like to combine multiple trips.
