SHAD DICKESON

Your nickname is: Shadda. Location: Westfield Warrawong. Title: Security Supervisor (S1). How long have you been with SCGS? 2.5 years. Describe yourself using three words: Cheeky, unique, easy going. Name one thing you love about working for SCGS: I love the support that comes from SCGS and it is great to see it further developing as it grows nationally. Who do you work with and describe him/ her in 3 words: Warren Whitton, ‘the team dad’. What are your hobbies? R/C helicopters, pistol shooting, snowboarding. What is your favourite movie? Top Gun. What is your favourite memory at Southern Cross? Watching Sam Johnson, Adam McMahon and Steve Brbich own the dance floor after a team BBQ.

“Since becoming S1 at Warrawong he has implemented changes in the rostering system, so that guards can now plan life away from work for the first time in years, which shows in the way they approach their duties. He has restructured the way we deal with Trespass offenders in liaison with the Crime Commander at Lake Illawarra Police, resulting in more arrests and a willingness by Police to “Charge” these offenders. Shad asks the opinions of guards in a range of issues and takes their opinions into consideration, whether it be for Camera placement or general day to day tasks, which helps staff to feel more part of the team and gives confidence. He is up to date with modern technology and is currently developing an “app” which all of Westfield will be using in crime control. Shad is also the first contractor in Westfield history to become a “Duty Manager”, which shows the faith that management have in him. Summing up, he is a great asset to Southern Cross and a pleasure to work with. Shad smiles most when he sees a criminal being put into the back of a Police truck and don’t we all.” Warren Whitton S2

Southern Cross Group Services was the

MAJOR SPONSOR of the

St John Ambulance Australia

Southern Cross Group Services was the major sponsor for the 2014 St John Ambulance Cadet Camp, a program designed for everyday youths in order to develop their skills in a variety of areas, including but not limited to; leadership , team work, first aid procedures, social skills, emergency response. Many cadets feel that they are ready to take on leadership roles in their division. St John makes this possible by offering a Cadet Non Commissioned Officers (NCO)

Cadet Camp.

Course for cadets with leadership ambitions. Becoming a Cadet NCO (Corporal or Sergeant) is a great ways learning valuable new skills, helping others and taking responsibility. There are always cadets who stand out in St John— someone who has done something special, or gone the extra mile to excel at what they do. Each year, states/territories acknowledge one special and high achieving cadet with the Cadet or Youth Leader of the Year Award. This is a very important appointment, as this lucky cadet can accompany the state/territory Commissioner or Cadet Officer to special events, formal or ceremonial occasions. As part of the Cadet Camp, St John organise a range of competitions. The Cadet First Aid Competitions are a fantastic opportunity for young members to challenge themselves. There are events for individuals, teams and Cadet Leaders (aged 18-25). Competitions are great for: • • • • •

demonstrating first aid skills in a com- petitive setting meeting other competitors gaining confidence, courage and compe- tence being challenged learning from hand’s on experience

Supporting the community is very important to both Southern Cross Group Services and St John Ambulance Australia. We are excited to have formed this relationship, and wish to continue assisting St John in encouraging and further developing their youth council.
