My Kinsale
Eileen Fitzgerald Kinsale native and proprietor of Eileen’s Beauty Salon I am a true Kinsale native, having been born into a well-known local family here. My father, businessman Paddy Fitzgerald, started PJ Fitzgerald Insurances back in 1971 with my mother Betty. Both are now retired from business. Coming from this background, I always wanted to have my own business in the town and so gained a qualification as a beauty therapist in 1984. In October of the following year I opened ‘Eileen’s Beauty Salon’ – then the only salon of its kind operating in Kinsale. Initially the salon was over my father’s Insurance premises, but as business grew I moved to a newly built salon at 27 Pearse Street. Over the

years I have seen Kinsale grow into the thriving town that it is today. It’s said that a rising tide lifts all boats, and with this growth, my business too has gone from strength to strength. Like everything, there have been vast changes in the beauty industry, and once, where beauty treatments were just for the few, they are now sought by both ladies and gents from all walks of life.’ I have moved with the times and developed the salon accordingly, and we now offer many more treatments than we started out with – spray tans; machine-led facials which provide clients with non-invasive lifting work; long-lasting polishes and huge advances in make-up techniques, products and applications.
Kinsale has a vibrant, forward-thinking community that works for the greater good by embracing change and constantly striving to make it a better place to live and work
Kinsale really is a great town to run a business in – it has a vibrant, forward-thinking community that works for the greater good by embracing change and constantly striving to make it a better place to live and work. I wouldn’t like to be anywhere else!’
