The need for this dynamic newly developed course is supported by research forecasting economic growth and job creation across many restaurants and hotels. Figures estimate some £2 million are being spent by tourists to NI every day (Tourism NI, 2019) – this rate of growth requires upskilling in a range of job roles including hospitality management and head chef positions.

Learning & Assessment

You will be assessed on a regular basis throughout the programme using a range of appropriate assessment methods such as written and practical assignments, exams, projects, case studies, and presentations. Delivery Students are required to attend Southern Regional College, Newry one full day per week during termtime and the remaining 4 days per week will be based with an employer.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are pre-defined by the College’s admission criteria which are outlined here. As a guide, you should expect to have: 64 tariff points (UCAS New tariff points for entry to Higher Education) Be employed or be about to take up permanent paid employment as an apprentice, or be an existing employee moving to a new job role, with a Northern Ireland based company. You must also have minimum of Grade C in GCSE Math & English (or equivalent) All applicants must attend a Pre-Entry Advice and Guidance session. Accreditation of Prior and Experiential Learning (APEL) may be used in certain circumstances

Year 1

Semester 1 • Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism • Food & Beverage Service operations (Evening delivery, SRC Graduate Restaurant) Semester 2 • Events operations Facilities Operations Semester 3 • Introduction to Work Based Learning

Year 2

Semester 1 • Management in Action Managing Financial Performance Semester 2 Employability Skills • Food & Beverage Management Semester 3 • Work Based Learning in Practice

Year 3

Semester 1 • Human Resource Management • Marketing & Entrepreneurship

Progression Opportunities

Upon achieving a minimum of 40% in their HLA, opportunity to progress to year 2 of the BSc International Hospitality Management at UU Upon achieving a minimum of 40% in their HLA, opportunity to complete a summer bridging programme, and then entry into the final year of the BSc International Hospitality Management at UU (liable for bridging programme fees) Variety of employment opportunities for example Hotel manager/duty manager, Guest Relations Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, Hotel Receptionist, Food Service Host, Bartender, Barista, Concierge, Event Management.
