Light shines for Probus

THE McCrae lighthouse turned a shade of yellow and blue to celebrate the October start of Probus month, in line with the United Nations Day of the Older Person.

The success of the inaugural Probus day in 2020 led to it being extended to Probus month, with clubs across Australia and New Zealand celebrating with morning teas, picnics, lunches, themed meetings and landmark visits.

Gael Harvey of Dromana Bay Probus said the 2023 theme was “fulfilling the promises of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights for Older Persons: across generations”.

Dromana Bay Probus held its celebrations by lighting up the McCrae Lighthouse, courtesy of McCrae Lions Club.

The lighthouse was illuminated in Probus blue and yellow for the first week of October, and on Sunday 1 October more than 40 club members joined Rye and Safety Beach Probus clubs for a beach picnic.

“Probus is all about active retirees getting together and having fun, we can guarantee that at Dromana Bay,” Harvey said.

“Anyone who would like to make new friends, go on outings and holidays, attend lunches, dinners, or participate in a variety of club activities, should come along to one of our meetings, where they would be made to feel most welcome.”

Harvey said lighting up the lighthouse was likely to become an annual event, with all Probus clubs welcome to participate.
