Chiropractor combines practice with wellness services
As the start of by Sandra another year rolls Landen Machaj around, many people CORRESPONDENT begin to make resolutions. While these resolutions may include such worthwhile plans such as more exercise, weight loss, smoking cessation, and overall health improvement, often these plans are short lived.
Why? Not because people don’t want to improve their health and fitness but often because they don’t have the knowledge needed to implement these changes in a way that is consistent with success. They may tend to go overboard, exercising too much and causing damage to joints and ligaments, or restricting their diets to such an extent that they become discouraged.
By three weeks into their program, they begin to lose their desire to continue especially if they are suffering from injury or failing to see any improvements in their health. For many there is a need to consult professional help to help lead them toward their goals. The road to success
According to Dr. John Friedrichs, a chiropractor with an office in East Troy, “Often accepting that someone may know more about achieving your goals than you do, may lead you to finding the road that will lead to your success.”
Friedrichs has been practicing chiropractic medicine since 1994, when he along with his brother the late, Pete Friedrichs, also a Chiropractor, opened their practice to help people maintain or return to optimum health through chiropractic and incorporating holistic health practices into their patient’s lifestyles.
John Friedrichs became involved with chiropractic medicine as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater after injuring his back while playing basketball. After attempting to find relief from his injury in traditional medicine without success for two years, he was treated by a chiropractor who relieved him of his pain and restored him to health.
His practice, the Wisconsin Spinal Rehabilitation Center, has offices in East Troy and Brookfield. Because the clinics use a holistic approach to health, they’ve developed WellConsulted, a body sculpting and aesthetic center that works with

chiropractic treatments to help patients embrace a healthy lifestyle. Chiropractic core
Until Pete Friedrichs’ death 3 ½ years ago, the brothers had provided chiropractic and nutritional health care at Wisconsin Spinal Rehabilitation for more than 20 years. They utilized a combination of traditional chiropractic practices, including spinal therapies and spinal decompression, along with weight loss and nutrition to provide the best possible care for their patients seeking relief from pain and correcting their disability. Today John Friedrichs continues to carry on the practice.
“Many people come to chiropractic because of back pain, particularly, lower back pain, but they also come for a variety of other health concerns such as sciatica, headaches including migraines, and for injuries such as whiplash from automobile accidents,” said Friedrichs.
For many, their first visit to a Chiropractor may come because of continued back pain, often the result of an injury, which has not abated in spite of trying other treatments. Sometimes they come in without knowing about chiropractic and how it works.
Wisconsin Spinal Rehabilitation Center in East Troy makes education an integral part of their successful treatment of their patients. The patients are taught that chiropractic care is a type of health care that works not only with the musculoskeletal system but also the nervous system, using a holistic approach to health care.
Often lower back pain may be the result of or aggravated by weight issues. So it is not only necessary to treat the back but work with the patient on improving health issues by encouraging weight loss and proper nutrition. Working on lifestyle changes along with chiropractic treatment can make a positive difference in life.
“Working to reduce obesity is especially important now as obesity has been recognized as one of the risk factors for COVID-19,” said Friedrichs.

Start with diagnosis
Before beginning treatment, proper diagnosis of the problem is important. Friedrichs uses a variety of diagnostic means to establish that diagnosis. Physical examination and digital x-ray are among the tools used to ensure a proper diagnosis so that the right treatment is implemented.
The diagnosis may be a simple problem such as a pulled muscle or more complex conditions such as herniated discs, degenerative discs, sciatica, arthritic spines, or stenosis. Whether it is the traditional chiropractic adjustment, which involves manipulation of the spine to restore it to its correct position is the treatment needed or if there is a need for DOC spinal decompression, proper diagnosis will lead. Friedrichs to the right treatment.
DOC spinal decompression requires a special table and a computer to guide the chiropractor as he releases the compression of the degenerative or herniated disc. This procedure provides alignment by elongating the spine, allowing the disc to decompress.
Chiropractic practice and spinal decompression do not heal in one treatment. Twelve to 36 treatments might be needed depending on the severity of the damage to the discs. Back issues don’t happen overnight. They build up over a longer period of time, often years. They cannot be permanently cured in an instant, although there may be relief after one treatment.
While many seek treatment when they are suffering, others maintain a regular schedule of preventive adjustments to keep their back in proper alignment. Chiropractic is as concerned with preventing injury and disease as it is with relieving stress and pain, according to Friedrichs. The whole person
Chiropractic endeavors to treat patients in a safe and drug-free manner. Based on holistic principles, they treat the entire person to achieve a healthy life.
One way that is accomplished is with their relationship with WellConsulted Body Sculpting and Aesthetic Center, whose employees work with patients to help them achieve optimal health.
Valarie Voelkering is certified as a life coach by the Institute of Functional Medicine and works with clients to achieve their personal goals allowing them to be the best they can be.
“One of the first things we do with patients is to encourage them to develop proper nutrition. We encourage healthy eating and the removal of sugar from their diets. We recommend a seven-day sugar cleanse as a good way to begin,” Voelkering said.
Getting patients on the road to healthy eating is often the first step in getting them on the road to optimum health. They recommend

supplements as needed after performing blood tests to see what elements are deficient. WellConsulted carries the NutriDyn supplement line because it is known for quality, according to Voelkering.
“Some of our patients are looking for an eating plan that will allow them to control their medical conditions. They might want an anti-inflammatory diet to help control their fibromyalgia or need a low sugar plan to manage their diabetes,” said Voelkering. “We encourage the use of healthy smoothies and carry a line of fruits and a green line of powders that mix with water for a tasty smoothie.”
This year, according to Voelkering has been very busy, as people have been at home and not exercising as much as they normally would. In addition, they are at home with the refrigerator close by and have noticed an increase in weight.
“We talk about the quarantine 15, the weight they have gained while staying home during the pandemic,” said Voelkering.
Body sculpting through the use of contour light therapy is popular with many clients. This is a non-invasive process that provides body contouring and skin rejuvenation through the use of a special red light.
“While the patient is exposed to the contour light it opens the fat cells, allowing the fat in them to turn to liquid and exit the cell. When empty the fat cells shrink,” Voelkering said.
The patient will see results immediately, she added. This light accelerates fat burning and will speed up the metabolism. The procedure will slim, shape and tone without pain, bruising, or swelling.
For patients looking for a non-surgical way to remodel their face, chin, or jaw the use of Evoke is a hands-free applicator that will deliver radio frequency energy to the treatment area. These radio frequencies will deliver heat to the subdermal layer of the skin, which will result in a natural looking, younger facial appearance without undergoing injections or surgery. coach at WellConsulted. Living in a world where we are exposed to large amounts of processed and high sugar foods, maintaining a healthy diet is often difficult. These foods make one fat and deplete energy. The wellness coach will help develop a diet of whole foods, avoiding processed foods. The goal is to develop a healthy diet that will result in weight loss, and increased energy.
“As the patient advances in developing their healthy lifestyle, they will be less reliant on their life coach. They will depend more on their knowledge and confidence to do it on their own,” Voelkering said.
