Gordon reflects, "Growing up in our little town of Gadsden, AL, our whole family would listen as Harry Butler hosted ‘Songs of Inspiration’ every Sunday morning on WGAD Radio. Even though we were just kids, my brother and I couldn’t wait to hear the latest songs from new and familiar groups. Over the decades, ‘Songs of Inspiration’ has blessed—and still blesses--lots of folks. In some small way, I’m hoping to honor and extend that legacy with this new project.” Through the years, Mote has enjoyed a high profile as a featured performer on The Gaither Homecoming Concert series as well as one of Music City’s most celebrated session players—culminating in two recent Academy of Country Music and Music Row Magazine Awards for Instrumentalist of the Year. Luke 5:2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the fishermen were gone out of them, and were washing their nets. 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord. 9 For he was astonished, and all that were with him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken: 10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men. As i was reading these scriptures I was wondering, would Simon have allowed Christ to enter his boat if his boat was full? I catch myself at times missing the mark and at other times patting myself on the back for my success. I wonder at the times when my boat is full, why is it so easy to forget that everything that happens to me is because of Christ. First Simon calls him Master (teacher). After being out all night and having caught nothing he is tired. Cleaning out his nets he see's Christ coming and 3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship. What lead Simon to allow the teacher to use

his empty boat? Was Simon in need? If the boat was full, would there have been any room for the teacher? After teaching the multitude that had come to hear the Master teach, The Master turned to Simon and said, 4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon,

Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. See Simon had an empty boat, he had room. Simon had a need, to fill his boat. I wonder how often I have an empty boat or a need.

The interesting thing of this calling of the first disciple is that we are also called. Simon first sees him as a teacher now is about to see him in a much differant way. The teacher is about to reveal himself to Simon all because Simon had an empty boat and a need. After letting out his net the blessing became something that he could not contain. Others were needed to receive the whole blessing. Yes it was more than enough. Over flowing, that they became scared that their boats would sink. Then Master become Lord, and the Lord spoke, And Jesus said unto Simon,

Fear not; from henceforth thou shalt catch men.

Have you ever received a blessing that was so over whelming that it scared you? See at times our boat becomes full and we have no room for the teacher. We are self serving and prideful on our success's and we don't’ see the need, the need for the Lord. We forget about the time when the teacher first came to us and asked us to allow him to use our empty boat to minister to others and deliver what we also need. We forget about the all night fishing or praying and how we were so tired because the hours became late and we could not stop because it was a need that just had to be filled. But we also have to remember that if there is no room in the boat then there is no room for the Lord. Simon called him master until the catch, then he called him lord. When we humble ourselves as Simon did then the lord delivers us a blessing that will be more than we expected if we will just let him into the boat.

"Hi

Family and Friends - First of all we want to say thank you so much for lifting us up in prayer these last few weeks. That means so much to us. Thank you for your care, concern, and love. I know so many of you are wanting to know what is going on with Michael. Today we spent about 6 hours at Wake Forest Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Michael definitely needs a Kidney Transplant asap. Michael began his evaluation process today and we go back again for another 6 hours on Nov. 5th for several blood tests - scans - xrays - MRI - EKG - etc etc - our long journey has began. We were very impressed today with WFMC. We were told with his blood type he could wait for 6 years to get his transplant when put on the list as of today. They are highly recommending a living donor. We have also been recommended to put it out there on Social Media, Newspaper, etc etc. Please help us get it out there! We were told today that if you don't put your need out there how do you expect to get it met. Please feel free to forward. We sure do thank you ! Michael is still not on dialysis and we give God the Glory for that ! Please continue to pray he can by-pass dialysis completely. Love to all of you and will keep you posted !" In addition, Michael stated on Facebook:

"If I have a "Living Donor" I would be able to avoid dialysis while waiting for a kidney to become available. The waiting time right now averages anywhere from 4 to 6 years for a kidney. Dialysis is very hard on the body and would hinder me from traveling and singing as I've been used to doing for the last 25 years. Most of you know I had a Liver Transplant 24 years ago. God has been good and watched over me all theses years! The only problem is....I have been on "antirejection" medicine for all of those years. These medicines are very "toxic" to the kidneys and after taking them everyday for 24 years have wreaked havoc on my Kidneys. There would be no hospital bill involved for the "Living Donor" and we could help with transportation expenses to and from the Hospital."

When the Teacher is the Bully. Before I get into this article I just want to say I was inspired to write this article by my two of my grandchildren who are special needs students. We jut found out that all the things they were telling us about how the teacher treated them is true. So what do you do when the teacher is the bully? October was National Domestic Violence Awareness and National Bullying Prevention month. During that month we tend to put the majority of our attention on Domestic Violence. So I want to take some time and talk to you about a problem that is an ever rising problem in our society today. That problem being bullying. What is Bullying? Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Bullying can occur in-person or through technology. It is harassment via social media; texting, phone calls and e-mail. Domestic violence can be a physical, emotional, mental, financial, sexual or psychological act. Domestic violence is bullying. As you can see much like the domestic violence abuser, the behaviors of the bully are similar if not the same. Just like the abuser, bullies receive the same positive reinforcement when they bully.

So is bullying abuse? The answer is yes. Bullying takes place in many settings such as home, on the playground at school, in the classroom and even at the workplace. Bullies are abusive and say harsh hurting and degrading words to their victims. They use words to make their victims cry, feel ashamed, even wish they were dead. School children who are bullied are more than twice as likely to think about killing themselves and to make suicide attempts as their peers who aren't bullied. (Reuters Health) In 2010 34 children died due to suicides where bullying was a principal issue in their decision to end their lives speaks volumes. There were 33 who committed suicide. Then there was one young man who was killed while trying to extricate his sibling from two bullies who were pummeling his sibling, he was shot and killed. (AAS) Researchers also found that cyberbullying, such as harassment over the Internet, was more closely Bullying can manifest in many different ways, but there are five main types: Physical bullying, which includes hitting, kicking, tripping or the destruction of a person’s property. This may involve a group of students attacking another, but usually is seen as a larger, stronger student picking on a smaller peer. Physical bullying not only affects the bully and the victim, but also may have an impact on innocent bystanders. Verbal bullying, which includes insults, teasing, name calling, sexual harassment or racist language. It also includes threats. Victims of this type of bullying may not immediately react, but in time, their grades and relationships may suffer. Covert bullying, which is usually attempted behind the victim’s back. This technique is meant to damage the victim’s reputation and can include rumor-starting, mimicking the victim, playing unkind jokes with the intent to humiliate the victim, or making faces while the victim isn’t watching. Covert bullying is the most frequently utilized form of bullying, and because adults may not be aware of it, it can be hard to control and stop. Cyberbullying, can happen anywhere and at any time thanks to the influx of technology both at school and at home. Cyberbullying can occur through text messages or over the internet and may be known only to the victim and the perpetrator, making it difficult to control. Cyber bullies are often the victims of real world bullying, and take their frustrations out on their victims behind the privacy of a computer screen or cellular phone. Their behavior may include impersonating a victim online to make others

to join in. We always think of the bully as being the kid who steals your lunch money away or the big kid who pushes you around on the playground, but this is not so. A bully can appear in all shapes and sizes. It makes no difference if they are big or small. Some bullies can be quite popular with lots of friends, while others appear to be disliked by almost everyone. It is important that we understand that a bully cannot be labeled by what they look like. A bully can be recognized only by their actions. Bullying can involves children as well as parents and other adults acting in a variety of roles. Adult bullying is more prevalent than many want to admit. You may not hear a lot about adult bullying, but it is a problem. As mentioned I was inspired by my two of my grandchildren who are both special needs students to write this artice on bullying. With that in mind I want to talk to you a little about an adult bully. And what you do when that adult bully is your child's teacher. They both attend the same school and are in the same special needs class. Just the other day the parents of these two beautiful children finally realized that the things my grandchildren had been telling them was happening at school was in fact true. They didn't want to go to school because they were constantly being yelled at, made fun of, called names like lazy and stupid. They were even being pitted one against another. They would come home crying over something that the teacher did or said that day. It was a constant battle to get them to go to school. The problem of teachers bullying students is more common than you think. There have been lots of books that give parents ample insight into the minds of young bullies. But what if it's the teacher who screams, threatens, or uses biting sarcasm to humiliate a child in front of the class? Although bullying often brings to mind school bullying between children, but bullying can involve adults, even bullying teachers. Teachers can sometimes be the bully. Teacher bullying gets little attention, but the problem is more common than people believe. In an anonymous survey of 116 teachers at seven elementary schools, more than 70% said they believed that bullying was isolated. But 45% admitted to having bullied a student. Teacher bullying is defined as "using power to punish, manipulate, or disparage a student beyond what would be a reasonable disciplinary procedure." Teacher-on-student bullying takes many forms, ranging from physical to verbal and emotional abuse. Like youth bullies, teachers are most likely to pick on students they perceive as vulnerable. Teacher bullying can go unreported for several reasons. The victim may not trust the system to support or believe him or her. They may fear retribution by the teacher in the form of a lowered grade or more teacher bullying behavior. Recent research shows that 2% of children are bullied by a teacher in their lifetime. Teachers who are bullies have the same characteristics of other bullies. In the school environment, a teacher-bully will shame a child in front of classmates, often using their position of authority in abusive ways. The teacher-bully may make an example of a child, sending him out of the room or to the corner. Maybe an extra assignment or denying your child recess becomes the vehicle for bullying.

Years ago the dunce cap, standing in the corner, or having your hand whacked with a ruler, were methods that at one time were a common occurrence in educational settings. But they might now fall under the category of bullying teachers. Bullying teachers can act by using degrading words and treatment, as well as physical punishments. Teachers aren't the only ones in the school who can be the bully. The list can include coaches, custodians, security personnel, and the front office staff, even the principal. Before I go any further I want to say that the large majority of teachers do an excellent job when they teach and this topic does not apply to them. Let me also state that the teacher doesn't just have to be a teacher to special needs kids to be a bully. It just so happened that my grandchildren are special needs children. A lot of the material I study and read before writing this article seem to lead to the conclusion that special needs children, especially those who can't articulate, are more apt to be bullied. It happens to average and high-achieving students, too, elementary school through high school. When a child of any age or ability level is singled out for demeaning attention by a teacher who feels threatened or resentful, it’s wrong, and it may be bullying. School is supposed to be a safe place. Bullying in any manner is bad enough, but when it’s the teacher doing the bullying, it’s even more of challenge. Be careful, thoughtful and tenacious as you work to resolve the situation. Your child deserves a safe, supportive, bully-free classroom. Chances are if your child is being bullied by a teacher he won't say anything. Boys are more apt to suffer in silence than girls. Your child may also fear retaliation by the teacher if he says anything about what is happening. Remember, a teacher is a figure of authority and kids think that there's nothing that can be done if their teacher acts inappropriately. But if you feel your child's teacher may be bullying him stay calm and keep an open mind. Approach the situation in a manner that will result in a peaceful but appropriate solution. Call a meeting between the teacher, the principal and yourself. Talk to them about the problem in a calm and courteous voice. Listen to the teacher's side of the story. Possibly your child has misinterpreted the teacher's actions. Give him/her the benefit of the doubt and keep a sharp eye to see if the problem reoccurs. Always leave a paper trail. Record the dates of all meetings and the results. Write out your concerns and make copies for the teacher and principal. This lets all parties know that you are serious about resolving the issue. Keep all correspondence in a file that is easily accessible. Go higher. If the situation isn't resolved after the meeting, take it a step higher. At this point a copy of all meetings and correspondence should be sent to the school board of the Superintendent of Schools. Contacting the school board or the Superintendent of Schools is well within the rights of both you and your child. Never ever ignore an instance of teacher bullying. It will not stop unless you make the teacher aware that you know what is happening and make a commitment to make sure it stops. Ignoring a teacher who bullies students allows the practice to continue, which places your child under a great deal of stress. This can inadvertently cause your child to become a bully on the playground or in the community. It is his way of releasing some of the stress that he's under. Show your child that bullying of any kind, even if by a teacher, is wrong. This lets

your child know that you listen to his concerns and take his well-being seriously. Giving your child the support that he needs, will have enormous benefits to both you and your child. Understand that bullying of students by their teachers remains a significant problem and is every bit as dangerous as peer-to-peer bullying. Children have been bullied by other children for thousands of years. It's time we put a stop to bullying. If we keep silent about bullying we are sending a message that bullying is OK. The boy you punched in the hall today. Committed suicide a few minutes ago. The boy you called lame. He has to work every night to support his family. That girl you pushed down the other day. She's already being abused at home. That girl you called fat. She's starving herself. The old man you made fun of cause of the ugly scars. He fought for our country. The boy you made fun of for crying. His mother is dying. You think you know them. So think before you speak. You never know what a person is going through until you walk a mile in their shoes. “Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life, but define yourself. Tim Fields Are you being bullied or do you know someone who is being bullied. As with any violence as I always say it's Time to Stand Up, Step Up and Speak Up. We have the opportunity to make a difference. Will you help us put a stop to bullying. God Bless Debbie

7 Things to do After God Heals You Hallelujah! God has touched you! You know in your body and in your soul that God has stepped in and brought His healing power to play on your behalf. Your pain is gone. Or your mind is clear. Or you recovered when the doctors didn’t think you would. Or you can do something now that you couldn’t do before. You want to shout, “God is good!” And shout you should! That’s one of the things you should do after God heals you. But it doesn’t stop there. I’ve seen many people experience a touch from God. For some, that moment is the start of a brand new existence. Their future opens up, and they become a living testimony to what God can do. Sadly, for others their relief may be short lived. While they may rejoice in their healing it’s not long before they’re in the same or worse condition than before. They and others are tempted to wonder, “Were they really healed? Can you lose your healing? Why would God touch them, and then take it away?” One middle-aged man suffering from severe back pain experienced a dramatic touch from God. After others prayed for him his pain was gone – with no medical explanation. He could bend and move and lift things and do what he couldn’t do before. He was ecstatic; he was healed! His friends encouraged him to go back to his doctor, get checked out, and tell what God had done for him. But he refused. “If I go back to the doctor, I’ll lose my disability payments. I don’t want to have to go back to work.” And less than three months later he was in worse pain than he ever had been. That may be a somewhat dramatic, though true, example. But it illustrates that how we respond when we receive a touch from God is important. Here are some things to know and do.

After God Heals You Using the examples of those who were healed in the Bible, here are some things to know and do after God heals you. Celebrate! Shout, dance, sing. Have a party. Rejoice that the God of the universe laid His hand on you and made you whole. Yes, it is a big deal! Show gratitude. First of all, thank God for His healing. Many in the Bible would give a special gift (a vow) to demonstrate their gratitude. (Psalm 50:14) And don’t forget to thank those who helped you when you were in need – those who prayed for you, supported you, or provided material or practical help. Tell others what God has done. Jesus often told those He healed to tell others “what great things the Lord has done for you.” (Mark 5:19) Doing so solidifies your healing in your own soul, and it brings honor to God’s kingdom on Earth. Make sure, when you tell your story, to put the primary focus on what God has done, and His goodness. Get a medical evaluation. If you were under a doctor’s care, go back and get checked out. If you were on medication, keep taking it until told otherwise. For example, you may need to taper of some medications slowly. I know of someone who believed they were healed of diabetes, stopped taking insulin, and quickly because seriously ill. Be like the leper who Jesus healed, and then told to go show himself to the priest. (Luke 5:14) Remain humble. It may be tempting to feel that you’re special because God chose to heal you. Don’t let it make you proud. Hezekiah became arrogant after God healed him, and his arrogance became a factor in the destruction of Jerusalem years later. (Isaiah 39:3-7) Live a clean lifestyle. Sometimes (by no means always!) the way you were living contributed to your sickness. God’s healing gives you a fresh start, but it doesn’t absolve you from your responsibility to live healthy. Take this as an opportunity to review anything you need to change, such as eating healthy, managing stress well, learning to forgive, etc. (John 5:14) Live for God’s glory. You’re responsible for being a good steward of whatever degree of physical or mental strength you have as a result of God’s healing. I have several friends who, after they were healed, have devoted many hours and much energy to helping others experience God’s healing. Invest your newfound health wisely. (1 Corinthians 10:31) When God touches you, He deserves something from you in return. How you live from then on is the best way to show your gratitude. **Some of you may feel as though this doesn’t apply to you. You’ve prayed, and God hasn’t healed you. Don’t give up! Keep praying, and doing all you can to move into a place where you can experience God’s healing. He hasn’t left you, regardless of what happens with your finite human body here and now.

Activities are provided a few hours a day, three days a week at the church to allow families much-needed respite time to take care of other family needs. The evening’s line-up includes Jeff Stice, Tribute Quartet, The Talleys and Mary Anne Oglesby. Stice is a new addition to this year’s line-up of performers. The awardwinning pianist is excited about participating in this year’s benefit. "Being a part of this event is one of the most meaningful Christmas gifts I’ve ever received.” Stice said. "When I first learned of The Veranda, I thought it to be an amazing outreach to Alzheimer’s families. I am truly honored and humbled to be sharing my music on this very special evening in December. "An added element this year is our silent auction. We’ve had people from across the country donate items to the auction as their way to support The Veranda since they can’t attend the event in person. It will be a great night for families, young and old alike, to get together and usher in the holiday season and celebrate Christ, the true reason for the season. Last year’s event sold out, and we expect another sell-out again this year.” For more information about the event or to make reservations, contact The Ve-

About Michael English In Michael’s autobiography, The Prodigal Comes Home: My Story of Failure and God’s Story of Redemption (Thomas Nelson, Inc), he gives readers an honest look at the painful path that led him away from God and his family, but more importantly, he shows how God, with grace and mercy, rescued Michael and redeemed his shattered life. "When the lowest thing that could possibly happen happens; don’t give up, because you might be missing a blessing down the road,” says English. "When I started driving my own life, as though God were like some kind of global positioning system that I could choose to follow or ignore, I turned down dead ends and dark alleys, thinking they were going to lead me somewhere.” In 2009, Michael’s life came full circle as he returned to the Gaither Vocal Band as their lead singer. After a successful five year run with the GVB, Michael felt called to return to a full time solo career at the end of 2013.

The Rat and the Maze. (Sharing some Sunday Sumpins) Consider the rat and the maze. It is for want of the cheese that compels the rat to enter the maze. Once entered, it is a gauntlet of twist and turns and mysteries, which possibly have no solution other than retreat. And even then, the door may have been closed. The world has changed since we have lost our way in the maze. Returning to what once was, may not be an option. We will be forced by necessity to finish the game which we started. There can be no peace without complete victory and there can be no victory without great struggle and compromise and torment and suffering. Such is the maze of life when it is composed by our different lust rather than our faith. . The cheese can represent many things. It can be money, or sex or possessions or politics or argument over things we will never know better even after great debate. Argument for the sake of argument is the way of the fool. The temptation of the cheese is sometimes overwhelming not to taste. What we want is who we are? The question beggars an answer which is not always pleasant to see. The architect of the maze has considered the possibilities that compels entry.. The Maze is the system of the world driven passionately by the cares thereof. For each person the cheese is different. We toil and struggle and labor to obtain our little kingdom, our little footprint, and in the end realize we cannot take any of it with us. We have found our lot in life displayed disparagingly onto the monopoly board. Does where we live determine who we are? 'Human identity is no longer determined by what we do, but by what we own.' The old man tells the young man not to enter the maze. He says it is never worth the struggle. The young man laughs at his ignorance. The trap has been completed by

our hungers for the cheese. It may even be aesthetically compelling and possibly fun at first to enter into the web of the maze. We mock those who warned us away. Once lost and confused by the complexities of choice, the joy soon subsides into tears of repentance. What have we done? We whisper a prayer for help and remember the words of the old man. All of a sudden he doesn't seem to be a fool.. We laughed at his foreboding. There has always been a fine line between celebration and menace. Keep your peace and find another refuge than that of the maze. The pathway of Christ is leading us to an answer. It is a road called harmony. His yoke is easy and his burden is light. The cares of this life will never satisfy; and could possibly destroy what satisfaction we have already obtained. 'Come into this world of maze' the cheese bids us to do. The process of innocence into maturity is never what it appears to be. The exchange has always laden with great sacrifice we thought was worth the cost. ~LG

Sharing The Love Of Jesus With A Watching and Hurting World Dear Partners in the Harvest: It is hard to believe summer has passed and fall has begun. Life moves by so quickly and what we do for our Lord we must do now! To update you on us personally, in April we celebrated 20 wonderful years of marriage. Marilyn has truly been my best friend in life and ministry. Also in April, my 86 year old daddy finished his race here on earth and is now rejoicing in heaven with Jesus and all the saints who have gone before. My daddy lived what he believed and walked faithfully with his Lord for almost 60 years! God is blessing our ministry to our Military men and women. We are traveling and sharing about how the body of Christ can have an eternal impact to our soldiers and their families in the local communities. We are encouraging the church to reach out to the local reserve unit(s) and to consider having events for veterans. We also provide information on PTS (Post Traumatic Syndrome) and a Christ-Centered Bible Study for the soldier and his wife struggling with very real issues that PTS causes in their lives. Many opportunities keep opening up for us to use our therapy dog, Molly, to be "Jesus in Fur". Molly visits our veterans (along with all residents who desire to visit with her) at care centers, cancer centers, hospitals, and many other events. Molly brings the love of Christ, hope, kindness, and compassion. Daily we are meeting individuals and sharing Christ with those who are lonely and hurting. Recently, Molly visited a woman who was bedridden. The woman said aloud that she wished Molly could give her a kiss. Normally, Molly does not lick people or jump up on their beds but before we knew it and without our prompting she tenderly jumped up on the bed and went to the woman's face giving

her a kiss (lick). The joy on the woman's face was evident. Please pray for us as we use Molly as God's tool to open the individuals up for conversation and sharing of the Gospel. We are building relationships with some and their families but see others only one time as God directs. If you are interested in using your dog as we use Molly please contact us or see the below information on Canines for Christ. If your dog loves people, consider joining us in the Canines ministry you will be blessed. One Canadian ministry provides us with copies of daily Bible study materials for our soldiers in the Ft. Campbell, KY/Clarksville, TN area called "Quick Study". This is a monthly publication to study through the Bible verse by verse in one year. As you read this or visit their web site http://www.thestreamtv.com, would you pray for Rod and Janice Hembree and their team as they labor for God's glory? We want to express our thanks for your praying for this ministry as well as ours. It will probably come as no surprise to you that many veterans are over the road truck drivers. We have a new opportunity to partner alongside Truck Stop Ministries here in the Nashville area. We are in need of volunteer chaplains in order to provide a chaplain on site at different times during the week and to have a Sunday service. If you are interested, please email us. This would be an excellent outreach for your men's group or men's Sunday School class. If you are want more information or want to see what truck stop ministry might be available in your area visit https:// www.truckstopministries.org. I believe that at the heart of every unhealthy fear there is a question about God’s goodness. 1 John 4:18 tells us that perfect love expels fear. That is, when we know we are loved, we know we can trust that God has ultimate control, and that He will work all things out for our good (Rom. 8:28). For years, I was crippled by fear, because I did not understand the concept of his sovereignty. I acted as if He wasn’t paying attention, or like the disciples in the storm tossed boat mentioned in Mark 4:38, I thought he might not care that I was sinking. The older I get the more I realize that God has a good agenda– even in our suffering. He has used awful circumstances in my life to bring about good that never would have happened without the bad happening first. When Jesus got up and calmed the storm for the disciples, he asked them why they were so afraid, and asked why (after all the miracles they had seen) they still had no faith. If you are a child of God, fear should not be status quo for you. It is the opposite of faith, and those are belong to Him are called to live by faith. Yes, the world is a hard place, and fearful things happen almost daily, but those who belong to Him should never give in to fear. It is a choice that says “even though the storms of life are raging, I know He is in control and I can trust Him with my life. If He allows bad things to happen, He still has my best interest at heart and will use it for good.” This does not mean we don’t remove ourselves from danger or try to improve circumstances when we have the power to do so. However, it means we do not desperately grasp to control things we cannot control. We will all experience fear in life. The key is to learn to surrender it to God, so that He can replace it with faith. Paul admitted to the Corinthians that his visit to them had been characterized by “weakness and fear.” Yet, he went on to explain that this was so that their faith would be based on the power of God rather than the wisdom of men (1 Cor. 2:3-5). It is in our weakness that God’s power is best displayed (2 Cor. 12:9). This means that fear gives us an opportunity to proclaim His power. When we can say we were afraid, but still moved forward in faith, it shows the world it is His power rather than our own.

Are you struggling with fear? Perhaps you have received bad news from the doctor. Perhaps someone you love has rejected you. Perhaps you fear for a loved-one who is making bad decisions. Perhaps your fear is related to finances. Whatever it is, I urge you to surrender it to the One who loves you most. He knows the situation. It has not caught Him off guard. Even though your circumstances may be the result of sin, and not part of His perfect will for your life, He promises to use all things for your good. Think about the story of Joseph in Genesis. He was captured by his brothers and sold into slavery, then falsely accused and unfairly imprisoned. Yet, in the end, Joseph told his brothers that even though they intended their actions for harm, God intended them for good (Gen. 50:20). His circumstances were the result of sin, but God ultimately used them for good. In every fearful event of life we are faced with a choice. We will either focus on the goodness of God or we will focus on our negative circumstances . We always have the power to choose. Will you choose to trust in his goodness and love for you, or will you question his goodness and let fear rule you? Jesus told his disciples not to let their hearts be troubled or afraid (Jn. 14:27), but to believe (Jn. 14:1). Obviously, we can’t just turn off our emotions, but we can choose our response. When fear rolls in, choose to look to God in faith and confidence that his promises are true. Believe that He will use your circumstances for good, and you trust that He always has loving intentions towards you. Psalm 56 has long been one of my favorites. Notice how the psalmist chooses to deal with his fear. I have recited these word many times as I have made the choice to believe rather than fear. If you are struggling with fear, I hope you will pray this psalm now. Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up; Fighting all day he oppresses me. My enemies would hound me all day, For there are many who fight against me, O Most High. Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me? All day they twist my words; All their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God! You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me. In God (I will praise His word), In the Lord (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God; I will render praises to You, For You have delivered my soul from death. Have You not kept my feet from falling, That I may walk before God In the light of the living? For further study see: Psalms 23, 27, 34 & 46, Isaiah 41:10, 51:12-14, Romans 8:15, Hebrews 13:6

Welcome to the Porch, Grab a nice cold glass of sweet tea or a nice warm cup of coffee and let’s chat. First, let’s say a short prayer asking God to open our ears and our hearts. Father, we come to you now asking that you will use these words in such a way that hearts will be blessed and open to you. Father, all we do we do for you. Each of us humbled, by your love and mercies every day. Amen Salvation is free, but discipleship will cost you your life There is great cost in being a disciple of Jesus. We can see this in Luke14: 25-35. As we continue our look at “BEING A (BETTER) DISCIPLE FOR JESUS” Let’s look at Mathew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So as a disciple what is this telling us? SEEK- to actively search for, Fill your thoughts with His desires. To seek sets a pattern in your character. First- before anything else Kingdom of God- the place where He lives ( how can we do this) the next phrase tells us) His righteousness-His will, His ways, His love. Become one with Him And what happens if we do this ALL things shall be added unto you/us- God will grant us the desires of our hearts. As disciples we must bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Ghrist. This brings into play our integrity, Hold captive our thoughts. When we are alone do we still stay on track? **** I know that my mind wanders.*** So much of the time in our daily walk in life we seem to think we know what to do when to do it and how. So, we knowingly or not we tell Jesus where we are going when and

how to handle the task at hand. This is us tell Him to follow us and as disciples WE FOLLOW JESUS This is where we FAIL. In our morning talk with Jesus one of the questions we should ask is, Jesus, where are we going today? As a disciple we must allow Jesus to tell us when, where and how. After all He does know SIDE NOTE: (An) The ability to preach is not a prerequisite of a powerful leader. All of Jesus disciples have the ability to lead others. This is why Jesus gave us the CoMission. Discipleship is possibly even more important than the ability to preach. Anybody can go to school to become a preacher. We Must Be Obedient First thing, with obedience we must look at our hearts. What are our intentions. Man looks at us from the outside. God looks at the heart. This is why as disciples we must, every day work on listening to the voice of the Spirit. Because we are human we want to fit into society so we justify ourselves to man. Deuteronomy 26:18 and the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people Man looks at the “man and our actions; this is why as disciples we must walk the walk, as they say. Our action may be the only Bible that some ever get to read. Our actions may be what God uses to quicken that persons spirit to come to Jesus for salvation. God looks at the heart. Obedience starts in our heart Roman 6:17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed We must SET OUR WILL TO OBEY. In obedience, being a disciple, we will become doers of the word as Jesus instructed us in book of James Be doers of the word James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves Remember Discipleship is a growing creation within us, and we never stop growing. ARE YOU READY? Till next time Thanks for joining me on the porch Brian Comments may be sent to brianmaceministries@gmail.com www.brianmaceministries.com
