Mr Mandeep Singh consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist, who specialises in maternal fetal medicine. After doing his obs & gynae training here and at Basildon and Chelmsford, he moved to Leicester Royal Infirmary to complete his subspecialist training.
Now Mandeep is back here to set up a new regional fetal medicine centre which will provide care and support for babies with health problems in utero. He said: “I know the hospital, I know the midwives and consultants, which is why I wanted to set up this service here.
She says: “We are working with other specialities to become more radical in our surgery for ovarian cancer to achieve complete cytoreduction (reducing the
number of cancer cells). This has shown improved survival rates.” Desiree has been delighted by the friendly welcome and receptiveness to new ideas here at Southend. In her spare time she enjoys travelling and appreciating modern art.

Farewell to... Cecilia Vinluan, HCA on the stroke unit. Despite retiring after 36 years with the Trust, Cecilia cannot quite bring herself to sever all ties. So she will be donning one of the distinctive red tabards and be back on the unit as a Feeding Buddy. She’s also looking forward to helping her husband on his allotment and spending more time with the grandchildren.
Cecilia Vinluan Linda Deadman, a ward clerk on Southbourne ward, is retiring after nearly 27 years with the trust. Originally a volunteer, she took on a personal assistant role and then became a ward clerk. She’s even appeared on ‘Challenge Anneka’
Linda Dea dman whilst working at Rochford Hospital – converting one of the wards to a Lyons Corner House-style tea room where a tea dance was then held as part of a reminiscence project for patients. Linda has met a lot of lovely people at Southend whom she will miss. She’s looking forward to allocating more time to her hobbies (archery, ten-pin bowling) and going back to college to study art. Roger Kittle, who has retired due to ill health, leaving bereft doctors, nurses, students and other staff wondering how they will cope with presentations now he is no longer around to help out with posters and power point presentations or sort out technical hitches. He has been, said medical education manager, Katie Palmer, an ‘institution’ here.
tle Roger Kit Roger began his hospital career back in 1967 as a laundry porter, working his way up to become portering services manager covering Rochford, Billericay and Southend Hospitals. He joined the education centre team in 1994 and has held the post of bursar and audiovisual technician ever since. Katie said: “Roger’s skills were legendary amongst all the doctors and his willingness to help at the drop of a hat will be sorely missed.” A retirement book for staff to sign repeatedly echoed her sentiments. One person wrote: “It’s like the ravens leaving the Tower – we will never be the same.”
