Estate and planned gifts through the SouthCoast Community Foundation are an excellent way to establish a charitable legacy. Our expertise and passion for change in this region make us the ideal partner for charitable donors looking to invest in our community in perpetuity. Two funds were established this last year that will have a lasting impact:

EDITH B. WISLOCKI FUND

Edith Wislocki named SouthCoast Community Foundation in her will and signed the necessary paperwork to create a field of interest fund that will preserve open space in Rehoboth and Bristol County and support nonprofits that have animals central to their mission.

SUZANNE AND SHARON AREIAS ANIMAL WELFARE FUND

This donor-advised fund is focused on animals. The primary area of interest will be to assist in the cost of spaying and neutering and was created by Dr. Sharon Areias Trahan in memory of her late sister and parents. Sharon intends to contribute to the fund annually and has also named The Foundation in her will.

DONOR STORY: Henry H. Crapo Fund

A LEGACY OF GENEROSITY

“Moving our family foundation to the Community Foundation has amplified the impact of our grantmaking investment. Not only did we gain their administrative and financial expertise, but our ability to support the community in perpetuity is safeguarded. Being part of the SouthCoast Community Foundation family, we retain the power of grant-making, but our ability to be effective grant makers is strengthened significantly by the Community Foundation unparalleled community outreach and relationships. Their insights provide us with information about what is going on in the community, where the needs are, and who is doing what to meet them. We simply would not have that on our own.”

JOHN BULLARD & PETER C. BULLARD, FUND ADVISORS TO HENRY H. CRAPO FOUNDATION FUND, JAMES ARNOLD FUND, AND MARY MORLEY CRAPO HYDE ECCLES FUND

Equitable college admissions and addressing hunger in the South Coast region. Just two examples of critical work that will benefit from a legacy of generosity and how the Henry H. Crapo Foundation Fund is supporting critical work taking place in the Greater New Bedford region. A total of $160,000 from the Fund was awarded to 15 organizations to support their civic, educational, and charitable projects. Lawyer Henry H. Crapo, born in Dartmouth and lived for many years in New Bedford, Massachusetts, established the Henry H. Crapo Foundation Fund to support civic, educational, and charitable projects in New Bedford and neighboring towns. Originally a private family foundation, it was moved to the Community Foundation to manage in 2010.
