Cali Almy
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work represents an inquiry of nature at times depicting a macro or expansive view across a marsh or coastline, and at times intended to explore more intimate scenes. I am inspired by places I have loved my whole life. I primarily create in clay and enjoy making simple forms combined with expressive surfaces. I play with carving, printing, painting, applying and removing materials, among other techniques to achieve results. Encouraging our relationship to the natural world feels salient now as the threats on our environments and increasing disconnect to the planet a nd each other are having clear consequences.
ABOUT
Cali Almy holds a BA in Studio Art from the University of Vermont and an MFA from UMass, Amherst. She has taught in school and community art spaces for over 3 decades. She moved away from full time teaching in 2019 and completed a two year Artist in Residence program at the Worcester Center for Crafts in ceramics. Since then Cali has exhibited her artwork at a variety of museums, galleries, and festivals. In addition to time in the studio, she continues to enjoy being in community arts and education spaces as a teacher, student, organizer, and artist.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My subject matter can often reference the human form, gesture, memory, emotion, sensuality or simply capture the energy of a time and place. My painting, “Red Pepper Autopsy” has been fueled by the culinary action of cutting into red peppers. I am viscerally excited by the disembowelment of peppers, their flesh, and seeds. I celebrate the red energy and plump life of this vegetable and savor its taste. I have an appetite for color and enjoy the manipulation of paint. I am compelled to articulate a fierce passion for life, female strength, and fecundity.

These sculptures reference an undervalued ocean community, which could be pivotal in mitigating climate change, to prompt the question: What value do Immigrant and LGBTQ Communities add to our shared human existence? Carbonremoval is the value of this ocean community. The hollow tubes of encaustic paint refer to the animals. The intertwined pieces of lace, reflect the movement of the water, and represent their algae food source. An asset of Immigrant and LGBTQ communities is a strong economic engine driven by ingenuity and invention. Can we learn the value of marginalized communities while building a more compassionate future for all?

I am currently exploring abstract painting with acrylics and watercolors. I am influenced by my connection with nature and excitement with colors and how they play with each other. I enjoy layering and texturing over a ground that provokes a sense of depth and mystery. Isabella M Carinci
ARTIST STATEMENT
I think what makes us human is uniquely individual but universally experienced and I often explore this idea within my artistic practices. My main source of inspiration is the human existence along with the emotions that come with it, specifically my own. These works then become a rough draft of sorts, taking what I know and broadening it, seeing if and how my own experiences relate to others and their experiences. I think of my art as a form of research, studying the ways that our environments connect and differentiate us.
ABOUT
Born and raised in Massachusetts, Isabella Carinci is a 20 year old mixed media artist, working interdisciplinary between painting, drawing, and sculpture. Having had a passion for the arts since she was a kid, she is currently studying to get her BA at The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her work is often figurative, using the human body and the things around it to explore themes of humanity, connection, and individuality.
Anne Carrozza Remick
ARTIST STATEMENT
There is an understated beauty that belongs to the solitude of simple objects. I see flowers as celebrations of life through light, shape and color. In my still life paintings, the objects become personified through vibrant color and optimism. Over the years, I have painted my life - my family and strangers and the lovely places I have visited. My ultimate inspiration comes from time spent in nature, specifically my garden. Painting flowers from my own garden plays an important part in my creative process.
ABOUT
Anne Carrozza Remick is a professional artist living in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She graduated with a BFA in Painting from Swain School of Design, a small art school in Massachusetts with a notable faculty that created a group of painting graduates who, through Professor David Loeffler Smith, can directly trace their lineage back to abstract expressionist Hans Hofmann. Anne received the Yale University Ellen Batell - Stoeckel Fellowship. Today, her paintings are collected throughout the United States and abroad.

Dan Connolly
ARTIST STATEMENT
With the rise of digital technology, photography was loosed from its concrete documentary foundations. I use long exposures, intentional camera movement, and postproduction processing tools to create unique, unreproducible images of the world around me. The spontaneity and energy of my photographs urge the viewer to let their minds wander and their emotions come to the fore. The color, shape, and line of these images dominate and command center stage. Jay Meuser once wrote about his painting Mare Nostrum, "It is far better to capture the glorious spirit of the sea than to paint all of its tiny ripples."
ABOUT
Dan Connolly came to photography as an art form later in life. He had used a camera throughout his adult life to document his world, his travels, and his family. He made portraits for businesses and individuals. But using it as a means of expression, to evoke emotion and response, came later, when the existential threats of the last decade forced his hand. Clichéd responses to time and aging hastened his development. Dan is self - taught and takes inspiration from various forms of media in the art world, often drawing more from painting and sculpture than from photography.

Iria DeValles-Vieira
ARTIST STATEMENT
When I paint, I think of nothing else except what I am doing at that point in time with the paint. It gives me the same calmness as when I work in my garden. I think about color, value, composition and textures just like gardening. I see my work as a way to get a reaction from myself and the viewer. I want to encourage a dialogue.
Iria DeValles - Vieira’s artistic journey has taken her from crayons to color by numbers, from watercolors to pen and ink, as well as charcoal, scrimshaw, and burning on wood. She has had an extended interruption and now is back experimenting with different mediums and textures, but focusing mostly on acrylics, mixed media, and collage.
Iria received an MS from UMass Dartmouth and BSN from Salve Regina University. Her career was in the nursing profession. While in college, she did attend some art classes. Recently she has taken online line art classes and locally in person art classes.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I started these paintings in a greenhouse, where I spent a few hours composing, blocking in shapes, choosing base colors, and getting the perspective correct. I then took it into my studio, where the story in each painting revealed itself and I made decisions about what’s in / what’s out. I returned to the greenhouse to complete each piece, usually within a day or two. With each one, I experienced a moment when I had been looking at the subject for so long that its complexity faded, like Novocain wearing off after a dentist visit, and the scene appeared straightforward. ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an expressionist painter at heart, capturing movement in my art. Some of my paintings represent the moment when stillness and quietness emerge from movement. They reflect my interactions with nature, architecture, and interiors. Nature communicates with me through its colors and movement, while architecture and interiors inspire me with their lines and forms. Working with oil paint is a visceral experience for me. The texture, density, and pigment of the paint are as important as the inspiration I draw from the world around me. To me, the journey is just as significant as the end result.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work serves to stimulate the imagination. I encourage the user to look deeper into the piece and wonder. For wonder keeps our imagination alive and allows us to discover things we would otherwise overlook and explore all the possibilities the world has to offer.
Through this work, I wanted to create pottery that serves a functional purpose but also acts as a reminder to slow down, take a breath, and appreciate the refreshing simplicity of the world around us.
ABOUT
Lindsey Epstein resides in Tiverton, RI where she now creates work from her studio. She has always enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and nature. Over the past 22 years, she has enjoyed exploring the limits of clay only to find that there are few. She is constantly excited by new possibilities and glaze techniques. ARTIST STATEMENT
My collages explore the interconnectedness of humans and nature, constantly shaping one another in both subtle and profound ways. With its endless cycles of growth and decay, nature offers inspiration and a constant source of beauty. Humans, in turn, interpret and shape this world, leaving marks of creation and destruction alike.
Through my art, I seek to mirror nature’s rhythms while considering how humans alter the landscape and push the earth’s boundaries. In this delicate interplay, nature and humanity are two sides of the same canvas, each leaving an imprint on the other.
ABOUT
A New Englander through and through, Nadine has spent her life on the Rhode Island coast. Her artistic expression is a testament to a lifelong affinity for the shore. Inspired by the stunning beauty and intricate details carved by sun, wind, sand, water, and time her art encapsulates the endless variety the region’s coastline offers. Each piece embodies her meticulous craftsmanship, incorporating shells, driftwood, sea glass, pottery, seaweed, bones, and other found objects.
Nadine’s exploration extends beyond the tangible elements. She delves into the nuances of negative space, juxtaposition, scale, and the subtle interplay of texture, shadow, and colors.

Melinda Katherine Frederick
ARTIST STATEMENT
Calm Down Earthling 4 draws from familiar archetypal structures such as the skep, wasps’ nest, or mud hut, without referencing any one specifically. It offers a universal impression of something made from the earth in which any one of its inhabitants may dwell. Inside the sculptural ceramic vessel, a light activated recording of honey bees plays softly. The frequency of this sound has been known to calm the human being. I invite the viewer to consider how the earth has provided all we have needed to heal, build, and thrive until now. Perhaps it is time to listen more closely.
ABOUT
Melinda Katherine Frederick is inspired by the use of clay accompanied by sound and light because together the three components create a connection between the physical and the ethereal. As this technological age takes individuals further and further away from living life as organic, spiritual beings, she is compelled to create art that reminds the viewer of their inherent relationship to both. Frederick earned her BFA in Ceramics from California State University Long Beach in 2021. She currently lives, works, and teaches in Southern Rhode Island.

“Capturing Personality and Bringing Feeling to Life ”
Everything in my pieces is selected to capture a feeling or personality. I go beyond what you see on the outside. I use Enchanted Sight© to access a way of seeing, insights into truths, identifying the main attitude/feeling of the subject. I connect with that voice, (wisdom, soul, God), inside. We are not alone when we create. One needs to “sense”; to listen, hear, see, and feel what to do. I let “sixthsensing” tell me what the painting needs. What pose, color(s), technique, what to add, subtract,….all aimed at bringing the personality/feeling to life.

My work is in constant motion evolving as life’s journey twists, turns, and continues to inspire. Through my art I express transient moments abstracted, distilled, and translated for the viewer’s reflection. I offer an alternative perspective often not considered by the mainstream. Multidisciplinary practices of painting, drawing, sculpture, and photography allow exploration, scrutiny, and immersion into the immediacy of thought, place, and awareness. I am a multi - faceted artist who incorporates the love of calligraphy, which I learned as a child by my father's side, and decorative eggs in honor of my Grandmother. I often combine lettering, illustration and illumination. Calligraphy is often incorporated within the imagery, using the words that describe the subject as part of the image. The results are classical, evocative and unexpected.
ABOUT

You can see some of her work at Riverside Art in the Marriette Gallery, where she is a custom framing designer.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My paintings often feature large - scale structures such as bridges, built to integrate people with their landscape. I photograph my subject - matter on site, then compose and paint in the studio. I use a bold color palette to enliven the art and bring the viewer into places seldom noticed. In this piece, I enjoyed playing with the movement and color of the water over rocks, and minimizing the historic lighthouse in the distance.

Azin Majooni
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work embodies the transformative nature of paper, where strength and fragility intertwine, and resilience emerges. Inspired by the life - giving rhythm of water, it captures memory and movement, flowing across landscapes to sustain life in the most delicate and barren spaces. Water and fibers merge in a dance of contrast and harmony, echoing cycles of transformation, endurance, and renewal where creation and survival converge to reflect the eternal struggle for balance, sustenance, and regeneration.
ABOUT
Azin Majooni is an artist and educator whose practice reflects a profound curiosity about the interplay between materiality and memory. With an MFA in paper and printmaking, she began her artistic career in graphic design before expanding into papermaking and printmaking. Her work explores the tactile and transformative nature of paper, bridging the tangible and intangible to weave themes of water, memory, and rhythm into a cohesive exploration of art’s ability to inspire reflection and discovery.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Born 75 years ago with a camera in my hands , I've always been attracted to capturing photos that tell or suggest a story, or catch a scene which presents something surprising. Often, I have no set idea of what I'm looking for, and, especially with street photography, I simply wait and see. Seldom am I disappointed, finding subjects, some joyful, some otherwise. The photographer, Saul Leiter, when asked if he could describe his philosophy of his process, answered, "I don’t have a philosophy. I have a camera. I look into the camera and take pictures." That's me, to a tee.
ABOUT
The 75 year old photographer, Michael Matheron, has rarely since his early years been far from a camera, from the 1960s Brownies to today's digital kits. He says, "I've always been attracted to capturing photos that tell or suggest a story, or catch a scene which presents something surprising. Often, I have no set idea of what I'm looking for, and, especially with street photography, I simply wait and see." His subjects vary from landscapes to close - ups, from street scenes to wildlife. "I keep my eyes wide open," he remarks, "as wide as possible."

I like metal, I like worn metal, I like metal that has changed color and shape, I like vintage pearls and chains, I like stones that are ocean’esque, I like mysteries and possibilities, I like mistakes, bravery, grace, and the knowing that there are always forces that are bigger than ourselves. This is my place of inspiration and expression.
ABOUT
Beth works as both a metalsmith and an upcycler of vintage jewelry, both of these components can be seen in her designs and pieces. Inspired by sunken ships and long lost treasure, she hopes her work reflects a look that belongs to the depths of the sea or maybe conjures up a pause or the triggering of a distant memory from the viewer. Carrying with it a grace and a style that belongs to modern adornment, but also remnants of the past. Worn but nonetheless brilliant.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I took up photography as a serious artistic pursuit after moving to Fairhaven a few years ago. Now I take pictures daily, often while walking the beach in the morning. I see magical colors and imagery in the skies and water and wildlife and am lucky enough to capture them sometimes. Maybe due to some years of art training I had when I was young many of my photographs look like paintings. I enjoy playing with the light in the images and typically crop pictures severely to draw the viewer’s eye to some action or motion in the picture.
ABOUT
Sue Meadows had extensive art training as a girl and young woman. After a corporate career and a move to Fairhaven, Massachusetts, she now uses photography as her medium, taking photographs daily on the beaches and at the marinas of her new hometown. She also often pictures birds, especially water birds, and has written a children’s counting book featuring her bird pictures. She is a member of Marion Arts Center and has shown work there many times, as well as at Gallery X and pieces out of state at exhibits in New York and New Mexico. I experience painting as an expression of all I love. Whether it be painting in my studio or my favorite, ‘en Plein air”, I am inspired to capture the felling of being outside... t hat feeling of air and sunshine kissing my skin, smelling the faint scent of the ocean or flowers, the sound of crashing waves, whispering reeds and singing birds...to bring those feelings to life on paper in order to transport others to fabulous places...of happiness, and peace.

ARTIST STATEMENT
After retiring from a successful illustration career I now devote myself to painting full time. I enjoy painting portraits, landscapes and inspirational images. The common thread in all my work is portraying the inherent beauty and presence of spirit in my subject. When I am painting I reach a place of peace within myself. It is my goal to share that inner stillness with my viewers, connect with our common center of peace, and serve as bridge to the way back when we lose it.
ABOUT
Mary attended UMass Dartmouth as a painting major in the early seventies. She left the University after two years to study with a classical painter in Rhode Island and then apprenticed with an illustrator for three years. At the age of 26 she started her own freelance illustration career, working primarily in book publishing and in the giftware industry. Several of Mary's giftware lines sold as collectibles nationally and internationally. Mary now focuses her art on oil painting portraits and landscapes with the goal of sharing the great sense of peace she experiences through art.

Carolyn Mulvey
ARTIST STATEMENT
I enjoy capturing New England’s ever - changing seascapes and landscapes, bringing the beauty and serenity of nature into my collectors' homes. My work leans toward an impressionistic style, with a focus on the interplay of light and shadow and the surprising bursts of color that appear in nature.
I often find myself chasing a certain kind of light or color that exists only for a moment. I'm especially drawn to the movement within a scene how the wind shapes the grasses or how the light shifts across water. Through brushstrokes, textured surfaces, and the use of color, I aim to convey not just what I see, but how it feels to be in that moment: present and grounded.
I hope my work invites the viewer to pause, take a breath, and feel connected to a memory, a place, or a moment they've known.
ABOUT
Born in Rhode Island and raised in Massachusetts, Carolyn Mulvey paints across New England, often drawing inspiration from time spent on Cape Cod and in towns like Westport, Tiverton, and Little Compton while continuing to explore new landscapes throughout the region. Vania Noverça
ARTIST STATEMENT
As an artist one is often asked to provide a biography and an artist statement when invited to a gallery or show, I truly understand the intent; however I must admit that I personally feel that in order to know an Artist one must learn who we are through our reflections and look beyond our shadows. Who, what, when and why, how are we inspired; each and every creation is a mere reflection of these entire things collectively. Our perception of another’s interpretation can sometimes be misconstrued, we must not limit ourselves, study, be inquisitive, engage with one another; only then will we learn who we are beyond the shadows we cast
ABOUT
Vania is an artist born in the Steep Brook section of Fall River, MA. She's an Oil Painter who is inspired mostly by nature and the human figure. She considers herself a realist with a contemporary flare. Her work is vibrant in color representing the vividness and form that can be found in nature. She is intrigued by the human figure in its expressive state; she conveys the emotions of her subjects within her creations sharing her experiences with her viewers! Creating art with Encaustics involves a multi faceted process that includes heating a mixture of pigmented beeswax with damar resin. The resin hardens the wax giving it a glossy finish, throwing light over the surface.
I meticulously paint layer upon layer of pigmented hot wax fusing each with the last using a heat gun.
I may carve back into previous layers or add objects to the hot wax creating three dimensional effects.
This transformative nature of working with the hot molten wax, the spontaneity, and all the possibilities are what fascinate me, propelling me into new discoveries everyday ABOUT

I’m painting my back yard and beyond.
I gravitate toward the landscape but am not limited to that. Tangents pop up once in a while when they’ve stayed on my mind too long, needing to be realized - like working out an abstraction, political and social issues, or a self portrait.
I aim to give empathy and understanding to whatever subject is on my canvas.

Stephen Remick, president of South Coast Artists, was born and raised in Vermont. He earned a BFA in Painting at Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA, where he met his wife, artist, Anne Carrozza. They raised two children while Steve owned a painting and paperhanging company. Winter used to dominate but other seasons are catching up, including plein air painting, as well as abstracts, politics, and self portraits. ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is a vivid journey through Surrealism, Symbolism, and bold color, uniting diverse media into a cohesive vision. "Life of Riley" (2023) showcased my love for collage, evolving painting, and sculpture. My scumbling oil and encaustic works layer texture and emotion, exploring identity and memory. Collages, built over decades from magazines and artifacts, blend precise cuts and rips under "Little Stories and The Big Picture," using animals as symbols. Sculptures of steel, ceramics, and handmade crepe paper flowers fuse nature and industry, while bronze and plaster casting deepen my narrative - driven practice, inviting viewers into my creative world.
ABOUT
Eileen Riley’s artistic journey began amidst rural Massachusetts’ landscapes, where ocean, woodlands, and farmlands fueled her creativity. At the University of Massachusetts, she explored sculpture, later diving into pottery, mentoring, and teaching. As an art educator at Bishop Stang High School, she taught 3D design, photography, drawing, and painting, while designing sets for drama. Today, Riley exhibits in galleries, takes commissions, and teaches privately. Her passion drives her to pursue further education and draw inspiration from galleries and museums worldwide, refining her craft across diverse mediums with a deep commitment to artistic expression.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Abstract art for me is a chance to invoke a wild, primal and unconventional expression of color.
I start each work with no real direction or plan. As the paint hits the canvas the story comes to life. Whether that story comes from a real life experience or something affecting the world today, each work will become a window into a narrative once completed. My wish for whomever glances upon my art is to temporarily leave the conventional and glance into a gateway of a vibrant story.
ABOUT
Reflecting on her childhood, Beth’s earliest memories were of playing with color. She intuited her lifelong passion would be the life of an artist. Now as a mature artist, Beth welcomes the powerful transformation of the unknown as it eventually evolves into a finished work. Beth revels in the individuality of each painting myriad vibrant colors and textures lead the way, shaped by subtle nuance of marks. She roughs up the canvas with her brushes, tools and fingers, each contributing to her freedom of expression. Beth’s journey included photography and jewelry making. ARTIST STATEMENT
My art is inspired by environmental and political issues. However, to maintain balance in my work and heart, I also create pieces that are lighter in subject often focusing on my personal history, or simply capturing the beauty I see in the world.
A recurring theme in my work is perspective both conceptually and physically. I explore subjects that require a variety of viewpoints to fully grasp their depth and complexity. Physically, my pieces are designed to look different up close than they do from a distance, employing techniques like halftones, blurred imagery, and shifts in scale to invite multiple interpretations.

“Oceans Rising” speaks of climate change and the power of rising seas. As an intuitive painter, my process responds more to the paint itself rather than rigidly adhering to a preconceived plan. I pour translucent washes, smear thicker layers of viscose paint, and dab at the surface with crumpled rags. When I pause, my hands are covered with colors, my palette is a mess, rags and opened tubes and jars of paint are scattered in chaos. This is when I need to sit with the work. To be with it, live with it, to listen to what it is saying.

Texture and tactile experience are important in my process. ARTIST STATEMENT
My abstract landscapes and collages endeavor to share my perspective on the Rhode Island coastal environment that has become my inspiration. Often times it is the broader view of the beaches, sea and marshes, but just as often it is the small things that catch my eye as in the flotsam and jetsam that washes ashore or collects in the sea grass.
Since graduating from RISD, Pat has enjoyed a career of visual art. She began as a graphic designer working with oceanographers in Woods Hole compiling their scientific lab work into maps and illustrations for publication. Along the way, clay found it's way into her hands and a 36 year business was born making tiles, mirrors, tables and commissioned backsplashes in homes and restaurants across the country. In 2017, itching to satisfy a long time desire to make abstract art, she closed her tile business and set to work painting. Since then, she has exhibited in many shows throughout New England.

My paintings celebrate my love for nature. I use watercolor or oil to create an impression of the light, movement, or stillness around me. My work is inspired by my travels, and by the coastal landscape that surrounds me.
I paint from nature because it is such a calming and centering force. I think of the outdoors as the poet Mary Oliver did, with reverence and awe. Rather than words, I attempt to use paint to convey this wonder. I hope people feel a sense of joy and peace when looking at my work, that is my experience creating it.

Nancy R.M. Whitin
ARTIST STATEMENT
Walking along the beach I watch the sandpipers run across the wet sand, pursuing food. It has become a welcome challenge to portray what appears to be real joy, the shimmering sand, the atmosphere and their constant motion. They are on a mission and I am along for the ride.

Jim Wright
ARTIST STATEMENT
I think the iconography, or language of drawing and painting are infinite. Although I've spent many years studying and rendering the world outside, I yearn to address the common dilemma of our mortal condition and the language of realism feels too constraining to express all the dimensions I see when testing the limits of my visual language.
ABOUT
Wright has lived in four different countries and has collected works in Spain, France, Belgium, and the U.S. Ironically although invited to London, England to exhibit, he never sold any work there, not for lack of trying though!
