Southie’s Mayor’s Cup Champions Michael “Noon-Dog” Noonan. In the Squirt C game, Southie squared off against Parkway and won in an overtime shootout, 5-4. According to Coach Bobby McGarrell, Keith Splaine, who scored the winning goal in the shootout, was the Finals’ MVP. Bobby Alexander and Jimmy Holmes are the assistant coaches. Three teams win coveted cup By Kevin Devlin On Sunday, January 15, at the Silvio O. Conte Forum on the Boston College campus, the Bantam A, Squirt C and the Pee Wee B teams from the South Boston Youth Hockey League, played in the Finals of the Mayor’s Cup, and returned home with the coveted championship trophies. The Pee Wee B team played Malden/East Boston in the championship game. Trailing 3-0, Southie fought back and won 5-3. Eddie Tirabassi, Alex Fucile, and John Gilmartin scored one goal apiece. Jerry O’Neil scored two goals, including the winning one. According to Coach Joe Burke, Southie’s defense came alive to force their foe into committing costly mistakes while Aiden Fitzgerald and Terry Markos were outstanding in net. Coach Burke was assisted on the bench by his erudite hockey lieutenants, Tommy Casper and Bobby Picard. The players are: James Curry, Aiden Fitzgerald, Stephen Flynn, Alexander Fucile, Henry Gailunas, John Gilmartin, Ryan Goodine, Kyne Finbar, Mae Lafferty, Terry Markos, Sonny McColgan, Jerry O’Neil and

Bantam A Champions

The Bantam A team defeated Parkway 6-3 to capture the gold at Conte Forum. Coach McGarrell was assisted on the bench by Chris Crowley. Nolan Callow, the Finals’ MVP scored four goals and Timmy Donovan scored two. Sean Hartford was solid in net. The players are: Jack Matthews, Adam Alto, Mike Walsh, Lydon McGarrell, Nolan Callow, Timmy Medico, Mick Crowley, Chris Conroy, Sean O’Brien, Brian Miller, Niall Ryan, Timmy Donovan, Kyle Lynch, and Sean Hartford. Lifelong resident Ed Flynn really enjoys watching his boy Stephen play for the Pee Wee B squad and appreciates all that the coaches and parents do for the kids in the youth hockey program.
