WELCOME TO SOUTHAM The Saints have added some yet another new face to the squad this season - Here’s what you need to know about the new Saint!
Melvin Mauritson
With the first half of the season almost complete, Head Coach Richard Kay has not shown any signs of slowing down, and his recruitment of quality players is proof. Latest signing Melvin Mauritson not only brings depth to the side, but experience and quality as well. Growing up in Denmark Melvin started his career at a very successful youth club, Hornbæk IF. It was here that the young Mauritson received valuable coaching and experience from a system that created notable talents like Jacob Bruun Larsen. Along with being part of an important learning opportunity, the young forward also managed to lift numerous trophies, both within Denmark and abroad, which surely fuels his desire to continue that run here at Southam United. “My proudest trophy is the Kronborg Cup, which is an international cup held in Denmark near my hometown, so winning that was very rewarding.”
Rich Says:
After Hornbæk IF Melvin moved to the FC Midtjylland academy where he continued to play for a year. Throughout his career the Dane has made the move from midfielder into his more preferred attacking forward and striker role. “I was very attack minded and always ended up scoring anyway, I got put up top and have been there since.” A short break from football has brought a new desire and motivation to Mauritson and after talks with player/coach Dan Long a move to Bobby Hancocks Park was a straightforward choice. “I live near Southam and wanted to join a team with good prospects and future plans and so I had a chat with Dan long, who I’ve known for a while. [He] spoke highly of the club and I decided to give it a go.” “Both the squad and manager have been very welcoming and I feel at home already, looking forward to playing with them and bagging some goals”. Welcome to Southam Melvin!
“Its always great to add more firepower to your squad. It’s always important to strike while the irons hot and whilst we are competing at the business end of four competitions. Melvin has great pedigree having come through the academy system at FC Midtjylland in Denmark. Hes been scoring a bag full of goals in local Sunday league football and has been looking to join the right local club in non league. Melvs is a rough diamond but has the attributes all defenders are frightened of; pace, power and can finish. At 19 hes another young player with huge potential. I have to thank my First team coach Longy for scouting him and bringing him into the club. With the culture and environment we have within the dressing room and through the many weekly Coaching sessions at training I am excited to see Melvs develop and reach his potential”
