LETTER FROM THE MANAGER
I would like to welcome the Management, Staff, Players and Committee of Kenilworth Sporting to Bobby Hancocks Park for today’s Coventry Charity Cup Quarter Final tie. When the last eight draw was made, by far it’s the stand out tie of the round and a mouthwatering cup match. Last weeks game was a league local derby but this is as big a local derby as it gets, Southam v Kenilworth. Within our group we have alot of connections to the old Kenilworth Town. Ten years ago I took my first steps into management as Kenilworth Town First team player/assistant manager. It was a great learning curve and very enjoyable period with us
finishing in the top 6 of the old Midland Combination Division 1. Paul Knights, my assistant, was manager of the very successful Kenilworth Town Sunday team that featured First Team Coach, Daniel Long, and club captain, Ashley Knights. Ash actually played for me all those years ago for the Kenilworth Town Saturday First team and has played for me at various clubs since. Its crazy to think we have done a ten year journey together. It’s fantastic to see Kenilworth as a club re launch much like ourselves and be very competitive. I know from experience the heart ache it caused within the local community when Kenilworth folded and with drew from the now Midland league due to finances. Gypsy Lane now much like BHP looks to be a fantastic local non league ground. Today’s game will be a fantastic occasion both clubs can enjoy after so much heart ache and disappointment over the recent years. Both clubs have a very bright future and regardless of today’s result that’s fantastic for local football in Warwickshire. Enjoy the game and Thank you for your continued support! UTS
