A warm welcome to the staff, players and committee of Kidlington for tonight’s Midweek Cup game.

It wasn’t long ago that we played each other in the league with us leaving it late to win the game 3-1. I’m expecting another really tough game but hopefully not as eventful from our side. We scored in the 85th, 92nd and 95th minute to turn the game around which really helped kick start our season.

We have been on a great run winning 7 of our last 9 games in all competitions. We are playing our best football of the season and look a well organised side. Football changes quickly and we are now in a period where we are full of confidence going into every game. It doesn’t get any better than a cup game under the lights at BHP. Again the focus will be on producing another high level performance

Saturday was by far our best performance of the season to beat high flying Clanfield. The first 45 minutes was some of the best football I have managed since the re launch in 2019. My only criticism again is that being completely dominant the scoreline needs to reflect that dominance. It’s a half of football where we should be 2 or 3 goals to the good. For all our great play we need to score more goals and work the goalkeeper more when we open teams up. Defensively we have been really organised which has given us a much better platform in games.

Finally, on a sad note, it is Melvs final game with us before he heads back to Denmark permanently for family reasons. We have been lucky to have so many players over nearly 4 years that have to be recognised as club legends. Again, Melv is a club legend. His goals, especially in the 2nd half of last season fired the club to promotion and back to step 6. You couldn’t meet a better person and he has been an absolute pleasure to coach and manage.

Melv came from local Sunday football last season. Through his commitment, work ethic and attitude he has progressed to being a semi-professional footballer that defines the term “coach-able”. He is such a well loved member of the changing room and wider club. On a personal note he is a genuine diamond that I will miss around the club. I hope he sticks at it and goes from strength to strength in his native homeland.

Good luck and best wishes from everyone at the club Melv.Once a Saint, Always a SaintEnjoy the cup tie
