T I P S F O R D E C O R AT I N G WITH COLOURS For many, colours can present something of a decorating challenge, and Anna has therefore created a list of tips on how you can successfully and easily use colour to create unity throughout your home.
UNIFIED DECOR
Anna recommends selecting one overall colour when decorating the rooms in your home, in order to create a sense of unity in the decor. You may also want to add additional colours or different hues of the primary colour, depending on the effect and atmosphere you are trying to create. The sisters always encourage you to choose the colours that bring you the most joy.
A TRANQUIL COLOUR SCHEME
If you would like to utilise colour to create a calming effect in your home, you may want to use the ’tone-on-tone’ technique, which consists of combining multiple hues of the same colour. This season, Anna has been particularly fascinated by the serene sense of colour harmony that is created by combining light and dark tones of the same colour. This collection therefore includes an array of green hues that can be combined in a most elegant fashion.
EXCITING CONTRASTS
As Anna reminds us, contrasting colours can add an interesting and exciting touch to the decor of any home. In this collection, Anna has focused on greens and reds due to their complimentary ability to amplify one other. She does recommend, however, that you avoid using equal amounts of each colour, as the contrast works best with unequal doses.
BLACK-WHITE-GREY
Draw added attention to the colours in your home by adding black, white and grey elements. Whether or not these three are actually colours is not a matter of concern for Anna, but she is fond of using them whenever she decorates. In the picture on the right, you can see how the black and white pieces are used to accentuate the home’s green and red tones.
