Introduction

Museums can make an important contribution to the cultural infrastructure of a location or area, often alongside other cultural facilities such as theatres, libraries, or concert halls. Nowadays, a critical mass of high-quality cultural facilities and services can often be a powerful machine that would attract businesses or organisations to invest in and locate to an area. Such facilities can make the area more attractive for their families and its workforce who will live there in the future. Thus, museums can regenerate to develop local communities through supporting job creation and serving as an important element in the argument for ďŹ nancial investment. In this way, the museum can quantify the economic beneďŹ ts that it brings to the local community.

My Philosophy Contemporary architecture believes that the effectiveness of a design solution is measured not only by its aesthetics outcome but also by the user's satisfaction and more importantly by the impact of the design on the users. Especially, when it comes to interiors, the key success is to have a strong vision of what is most important to the users. To achieve this goal, each project should strive to explain the value of the design process that would meet the user's expectations physically, functionally and aesthetically.

u  To ensure the use of day lighting typologies that make all the facilities of the museum space bathed in natural light. u  To promote a way of life that seeks to provide and secure a perfect recreation/education facility that would serve the economy and social wellbeing. u  To improve that architecture is the language that unified the different cultural functions in a dynamic and creative urban environment.

Design Concept

I believe that the more facilities and services the museum provides the visitors with, the larger the success the museum has. Also, the visitors need to feel welcome and comfortable through their visual visit by introducing them to a well-designed museum circulation. In addition to, employing high-level techniques that would encourage them to repeat the visit several times. From this context and previous case studies, I decided to design the proposed 'Museum of Natural History and Culture' based on these facts. I intend to introduce the proposed museum in the form of a discovery display that would encourage the visitors from all ages and genders to explore the displayed objects and make their own connections and discoveries. Another point to add is the design of the presentation page cover and the separate pages. I decided to use the topographical map of Saudi Arabia the aim is to identify the location of the project and to attract the viewers’ attention via the map abstract design as well as the use of the green colour that reects the identity of the country.

Project Concept

This project proposes the identity of the local community of Jeddah as well as the natural science, which forms an element of exploring and learning about scientiďŹ c information, culture, society and history. The visual experience is created through the participation of the residents of all genders and ages. This proposed museum will become the vessels that contain the lives and cultures of the local community through the connection of the outside space that contentious on endlessly to allow every space to form a relationship with nature. The outside space recreates a space for breathing, exercising and encouraging the gathering of the people and social interaction for the local residents to exclusively possess the contents of the space.

Figure 4,5: The manual sketches showcase the circulation plan and zoning plan of the museum that has an iconic and contemporary design. This reflects the simplicity and fluidity to be consciously recognised an important vichle for social and economic regeneration. The museum circulation shows a spectacular architectural design through its specific features: entrances and sweeping healthy paths, that create a breathing area for the public. These paths circulate eyes of water that increase the potential of the outside space. Samah Shaltout

THE EXTERIOR The mass is designed in compliance with the inclination topography communicating the shape of the swords of the local community, while the conical shape of the theatre building is representing the design of “The Metal Incense Burner, AL Mubkhara” that is forming a pleasurable and important element for the local community till today. The flawless design of the roof and paths will breath along with the outside landscape that would blend the beauty of the magnificent scene of the sea located near by the museum. Finally, the museum forms a coherent environment not merely a collection of performance spaces but a vibrant new part of the city itself that commensurate the ambition vision and plan of the year of two-thousand and thirty.

The Theatre Space-Design Concept

§  Outer cone made of huge body of glazing. §  The inner cone is typically structured from concrete. §  The circular shell distance between the two cones.

Figure15:The theatre space was firstly designed and covered with one frustum cone. Then, the idea was further refined and defined by creating a circular shell distance between two cones, where the outer one is characterised by a large body of glazing while the inner, that is forming the theatre space, is typically constructed of concrete. The aim of the design is to create a circular shell distance between the two cones that would allow the visitors to enjoy their walking during the performances’ break in a closed and air-conditioned atmosphere. Figure 16: The upper part of the building has a sculptural form of light grey concrete which will integrate bits of gravel and limestone in its composition that would give the building a performativity and intelligent skin. The purpose of the building design is to create a remarkable quality. On one hand, it opens on the surrounding urban context and on the other hand it has a strong identity. Samah Shaltout

The Interior The sculptural volume of this proposed museum in the city of Jeddah is designed with more uidity, velocity and lightness. The interior walls with their curved lines have broken the rigid box design and the stands are offering the enigmatic presence that would add points towards a modern and future interior architectural language and embraces the latest digital design methods that will continue the city of Jeddah to develop as a cultural centre in which the connection between culture and public life is critical. The proposed museum will deďŹ nitely offer a place of experimentation, accommodating galleries, spatial complexity and movement.

Figure28:The restaurant and cafeteria have been designed with simple space that connects the outside with the inside via windows, derived from the local palm trees. The aim is to reflect the identity of the local city while allowing the visitors to enjoy the magnificent scene and natural light. Space will provide the users with various experiences. Conclusion Recently, the concept of the traditional museum designs has changed a lot and as a result assembly of families for social /recreational and educational/economic reasons has also increased. Although, the local city of Jeddah has included many museums all or most of them are museums for simple display and exhibition that have become obsolete. Moreover, They have no influential power and have become gradually regarded as a moment in the past. In addition, these museums only show the remains of the old heritage of different civilizations from different areas with a unified and organised exhibition method. However, they embrace the history and culture of Saudi Arabia as a Renaissance building built in a modern time. Only a few visitors could recognise its true value. Thus, this fuelled the intention to create and design an appealing space suited to represent the science and culture of new values and propose a new recreational/commercial and educational/economical urban experience. Hence, the building is different from the shopping malls that would become one of the today’s cultural and commercial spaces, closely related to everyday life. To compliment this, I proposed a space to look back to the old culture, but after creating a new exhibition paradigm where the past and the present are simultaneously exhibited. Through this, the historical facts of current damage will be illuminated and designed to correct and recover the fame of the old heritage by creating an exhibition space that would focus on a continued exploration into a new interior architectural language of fluidity, encompassing all scales of design and revealing the spatial complexity of the practice’s projects, which in turn demonstrates a radical and unique solutions of space.
