OXBOW OASIS An island calm in the heart of the city Written by Neil Charles Photography by Andrew Kung Situated in a central yet seemingly remote spot just north of Broad Ripple in Oxbow Estates, this issue’s home showcases the work of Rosalind Pope Interiors, a design frm of unique taste and sensibilities based at the Indiana Design Center in Carmel. Tis delightful residence was completely rebuilt by Steven Sears Building Company when the current owners decided to move to Oxbow from Meridian Kessler. Designed with a gregarious and active lifestyle in mind, the living and sleeping quarters all occupy the main foor, with upstairs reserved for visiting family and guests. With gorgeous views west across the lake, the home’s orientation and layout aford stunning vistas from a number of rooms and outdoor areas. Architectural designer Kathy Sears recalls that the home she and husband Steven conceived was only partially inspired by the owners’ former residence: “Tey had a small picture of part of a house that they loved and we were tasked with completing the thought.” Drawing on the old charm and detail for which Meridian Kessler homes are renowned, the builders used wood trim detailing, paneling and cabinetry throughout to give the house a rich, warm feeling. Tose details, Sears says, are “what made this such a successful project.”
