2014-15 OKLAHOMA BASKETBALL

TOBY ROWLAND Play-by-Play Fourth Season

MIKE HOUCK Color Analyst 14th Season

Toby Rowland is in his fourth season as the “Voice of the Sooners.” He handles radio play-by-play for OU football, men’s basketball and baseball, and also hosts the Lon Kruger, Sherri Coale and Bob Stoops weekly radio shows. Rowland also serves as host for a wide variety of programming on Sooner Sports TV powered by FOX.

Responsible for coordinating publicity for the Oklahoma men’s basketball team, Mike Houck is in his 20th year at OU — all as the basketball program’s communications director. He is also in his 14th season as the team’s radio color analyst.

A two-time Emmy Award winner, Rowland spent 12 years as a sports anchor, reporter and producer at KWTV in Oklahoma City. He won the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for best sportscast and the Society of Professional Journalists Award for Best Sports Reporting. Rowland became a household name in Oklahoma as host of the awardwinning “Friday Football Blitz,” taking high school football coverage to a new level in the state. Rowland’s play-by-play résumé includes serving as the “Voice of Southern Nazarene University” football, basketball and baseball, and as “Voice of the Norman Tigers.” Rowland also was a part of the Oklahoma RedHawks broadcast team for one season.

Houck began working with the Sooners as an intern during the 1995-96 season under former head coach Kelvin Sampson and has been promoted three times since. He is OU’s director of media relations. In addition to his role as the men’s basketball contact, Houck has worked with the football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball and men’s and women’s gymnastics teams during his OU tenure. He has served as the local media coordinator for the Women’s College World Series, played in Oklahoma City, each of the last 16 years.

For the past 12 years Rowland has also hosted the “T-Row in the Morning Show” on KREF SportsTalk 1400.

Houck also served as the department’s SoonerSports.com contact for four years. In 2001, he was the inaugural recipient of the Will Hancock Award, a national honor for excellence in athletics website management and direction. The award was presented by FANSonly (now CBS College Sports) in memory of late Oklahoma State men’s basketball media relations contact Will Hancock.

A 1995 graduate of Southern Nazarene University, Toby is married to his college sweetheart, Jennifer. They have three children: sons Trevor (16) and Payton (14), and daughter Chloe (6).

The 42-year-old Houck earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism (public relations and advertising) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994. He and his wife, Tara, have a 3-year-old daughter, Avery.
