The Finnish sauna is a substantial part of Finnish culture. There are five million inhabitants and over two million saunas in Finland - an average of one per household. For Finnish people the sauna is a place to relax with friends and family, and a place for physical and mental relaxation as well.

The Concept The sauna is a place of relaxation, but the fact that there is usually no backrest makes it impossible for one to stay there very long. The problem with saunas that already have one is that once you heat up the sauna, the backrest gets too hot for it to be leaned against. My design is a portable seat which can be used at either a communal sauna, which almost all apartment blocks have, or in your own sauna. The benefits are:
- It provides an ergonomic sitting position as it gives support to the back. - Removes the problem of the backrest heating up too much. - It is foldable & stackable which enables easy carrying/storage. - It is hygienic when using a communal sauna.
