Mindful May

Grand Hampton has resort-style amenities, the perfect location, beautiful homes but what makes this community above the rest is the happy homeowners. This month is Mindful May, what does it mean to be mindful:Mindfulness means maintaining a momentby-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and surrounding environment, through a gentle nurturing lens. As the school year comes to an end at the end of the month it means a new schedule for kids and parents. Be mindful of the small things. I always notice at all events, the sound of laughter from families or new neighbors making friends. The Lifestyle Program here at Grand Hampton is a mindful way of staying connected with other people in the neighborhood. Also, we have a sense of community instead of just a group of houses together. I look forward to seeing everyone at upcoming events!! Stay mindful and happy.

History of Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a holiday celebrated annually to honor and appreciate mothers and motherhood. The modern version of Mother's Day has its roots in the United States.

The origins of Mother's Day can be traced back to the 19th century. In 1870, Julia Ward Howe, a social activist and writer, suggested the idea of a Mother's Day for Peace, which was to be a day for mothers to come together and work for world peace.

However, it was Anna Jarvis who is credited with founding the modern Mother's Day holiday in the United States. Anna Jarvis was a social activist from West Virginia who began campaigning for a day to honor mothers after the death of her own mother, Ann Jarvis, in 1905.

Anna Jarvis held the first Mother's Day celebration on May 10, 1908, at a church in Grafton, West Virginia. The event was a huge success, and Anna Jarvis began campaigning for the holiday to be officially recognized by the government.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day. The holiday quickly became popular, and it was soon celebrated in countries around the world.

Over time, the holiday has evolved to include not just mothers but also grandmothers, stepmothers, and other maternal figures. It is a day for people to express their love and appreciation for the important women in their lives.

History of Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States that is observed annually on the last Monday in May. The holiday is a time to honor and remember the men and women who have died while serving in the U.S. military.

The origins of Memorial Day can be traced back to the Civil War, which lasted from 1861 to 1865. After the war ended, communities across the country began holding ceremonies to honor the soldiers who had died in battle.

One of the earliest Memorial Day observances was held on May 1, 1865, in Charleston, South Carolina. A group of newly freed slaves held a ceremony to honor Union soldiers who had died in a prisoner-of-war camp near the city. They decorated the soldiers' graves with flowers and held a parade to commemorate their sacrifice.

In 1868, General John A. Logan, the commander-inchief of the Grand Army of the Republic, a Union veterans organization, declared May 30th as Decoration Day, a day to decorate the graves of Union soldiers with flowers. The first national observance of Decoration Day was held at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.

Over time, the holiday came to be known as Memorial Day and was expanded to honor all Americans who had died while serving in the military. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be observed on the last Monday in May.

Today, Memorial Day is observed with parades, ceremonies, and the decoration of graves with flags and flowers. It is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served in the U.S. military and to honor their memory.

AdventHealth Honors 100-Year-Old Veteran with Honorary Membership to Wellness Center

Trainers at the AdventHealth Wellness Center Wesley Chapel have honored a 100-year-old veteran, Roy Caldwood, with an honorary membership in recognition of his dedication to health and wellness.

Caldwood, a retired World War II U.S. Army Buffalo Soldier, began his fitness journey last summer after his wife passed away. His daughter, Diane, suggested he join the AdventHealth Wellness Center Wesley Chapel, and he hasn't looked back since. Caldwood now works out regularly at the center and even has home gym equipment to keep himself fit.

Caldwood's trainer, Mike Guerdan, says that he is truly inspiring and always willing to tackle any new workout. Caldwood says that the key to staying fit at his age is to keep moving, and he's “not ready for the rocking chair just yet.”

"We are honored to have Roy as a member of our wellness center," said Erik Wangsness, President and CEO of AdventHealth Wesley Chapel. "His dedication to health and wellness as a centenarian is an inspiration to us all! We are grateful for his service to our country and are proud to be able to help him achieve his fitness goals."

The AdventHealth Wellness Center Wesley Chapel is open to anyone, not just patients of AdventHealth. The center offers a variety of fitness and wellness programs designed to help people of all ages and abilities achieve their health goals.

Life is a mysterious and ever-changing phenomenon that is difficult to fully comprehend or define. It is a journey filled with joy, pain, love, heartbreak, laughter, and tears. It is a journey that is unique to every individual, with each person experiencing it in their own way.

At its core, life is about growth and transformation. From the moment we are born, we begin to learn, explore, and discover the world around us. We make mistakes, we learn from them, and we evolve into the person we are meant to be.

Throughout our lives, we encounter a variety of challenges and obstacles that test our strength, resilience, and determination. These challenges can be physical, emotional, or mental, and they can come in many different forms. Whether it's the loss of a loved one, a career setback, a health issue, or a personal struggle, we are constantly being tested and challenged.

Despite the many obstacles we face, life is also filled with incredible moments of joy and happiness. We experience the love of our family and friends, we achieve our goals and dreams, and we find meaning and purpose in our lives. These moments are what make life worth living, and they help us to appreciate the beauty and wonder of the world around us.

At the heart of life is our relationships with others. We are social creatures who thrive on human connection and community. Our relationships with family, friends, and romantic partners are the foundation of our lives, and they give us the love, support, and encouragement we need to navigate the ups and downs of life.

Ultimately, life is a journey that is meant to be lived to the fullest. It is about taking risks, following our passions, and embracing all the challenges and opportunities that come our way. It is about finding joy in the little things, and appreciating the beauty and wonder of the world around us.

Life is a complex and mysterious journey that is filled with both joy and pain. It is about growth, transformation, and the relationships we build with others. It is a journey that is unique to every individual, and it is up to each of us to embrace it fully and live it to the fullest.

Aluna's Zodiac

MAY 2023

Taurus (April 20 – May 20) — Happy birthday

Taurus! Jupiter is the planet of joy, abundance and harmony, and it moves into your sign for a one year stay! It’s been twelve years since the last visit, so release outmoded thoughts, behaviors or relationships to make room for who you are now and who you’re becoming! Expand, open, and take bold risks in all areas of your lives. You’ll feel guided by a higher force. Stay true to your heart and amazing events will unfold!

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) — So much energy is moving around in your subconscious. You can work to delete negative “computer files” that lead to toxic thoughts. You are not your brain and you’re in charge, even if you think you aren’t! Start with one prominent negative belief and practice being aware of it, even if that seems exhausting if it’s frequent. Soothe yourself each time, then boldly replace it with a new, healing idea. You’ll have less depression, more creativity and better sleep!

Cancer (June 21 – July 22) — Open your heart to new friends, and new activities that ignite your passion for helping your community! You’ll feel playful as Jupiter changes signs this month. You’ll feel less shy about meeting people and you’ll want to get involved in fun groups that are also meaningful to you. You might have challenging discussions with family regarding money. Stand by what you know if fair and don’t waver. Wait until June for any investments.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22)

— It’s an amazing career month! Jupiter is opening doors that haven’t been this wide since twelve years ago! You can get your

dream job, or be doing meaningful things at work that fulfill you. In general, you’ll feel that your outer world is matching your inner world. You’re able to be authentic and “real” at work, in relationships and everywhere else! Make sure any partnerships allow space for this “expanded you”. You can’t stay small for anyone!

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sept. 22) — Jupiter’s change of sign renews your spirituality! Try new ways of connecting with the Universe. Yoga, qigong, meditation, and even travel open your mind to the wonders around you! Make it your top priority to eliminate worry. It drags you down physically, and emotionally. Certain supplements heal rumination. Affirmations work once you identify the thoughts you’re replacing and offer yourself compassion! Relationships deepen with your sense of being relaxed and safe.

Libra (Sept. 23 – Oct. 22) — Jupiter’s change of sign deepens your sexuality . It’s the most profound shift in twelve years! You’re able to be more intimate and perhaps even a channel for the Divine Feminine or Masculine. Make sure a current partnership can grow along with this sacred expansion within you! You can also have amazing opportunities for financial investment. You’re in tune with the abundance of the Universe! Examine options carefully and make a move in June, after Mercury moves direct.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21) — Jupiter’s change of signs heals longterm partnerships, or brings you a lovely new partner if single. If any relationship is stagnant and unable to grow, it’ll be easy to release. Don’t feel weird if a new connection flows right into

your life. Be open! Forgive all past romantic bonds so you remain optimistic about how your heart has evolved. There are people to match your emotional and spiritual growth!

Sagittarius

(Nov. 22 – Dec.

21) — Honor your body as the amazing being that it is! Set new goals about eating fresher food, being more consistent with fun exercise, and allowing yourself adequate rest. Don’t let people tempt you away from your commitments. Create space in your home for fitness/ meditation. Clear your kitchen and dining area to make them more inviting for cooking and eating. You can also have amazing work opportunities that make your job more meaningful, and even playful!

Capricorn

(Dec. 22 – Jan. 19)

— It’s an amazing relationship time! But don’t start any partnerships if values aren’t aligned, especially in regards to finances. You must be able to talk openly about important issues at the outset. You’ll ask more of current connections as well, and they’ll need to evolve in vital areas. You might also noticing a craving for art or creativity. Explore your talents, even if you don’t think you have any!

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18) — You might be able to buy a new home, or make your current one more beautiful and fun. You can have more people over and feel surrounded by love! Meditate on the fact that you don’t have to comprise your uniqueness to have relationships. You just need to let your magnetic energy draw cool people towards you who adore you

as you are! You can also be making more money, even if you’ve been struggling or worrying for awhile.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20) – Trust yourself! As you meditate more and embrace your authenticity, it can cause waves with to others who want you to stay quiet and compliant. Stand firm in your new reality! New friends come into your world who love your outspokenness and value your spirituality. If you wrestle with addictions or toxic thinking, step back from struggling.
