Howard University College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics September, 1997 – August, 2000 Project Director/Co-Director Graduate Studies/Genetic Counselor Served as a Principal Investigator of a three-year project seeking to recruit underrepresented minorities into genetic counseling and reducing ethnocultural barriers to genetic services in Ward-1 of the District of Columbia. •

Awarded a $471,000 grant from the HRSA Maternal and Child Health Bureau, through Special Projects of Regional and National Significance (SPRANS) Contributed to achieving full accreditation for the Genetic Counseling Training Program at Howard University (the only HBCU nationally to offer a graduate program in genetic counseling) Disseminated program’s findings at national meetings; and contributed to the peer reviewed literature 3


Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Department of Women's and Children's Services, Baltimore, MD January, 1993 – August, 1997 Project Director/Genetic Counselor Served as Principal Investigator and Project Director in a project titled “Genetic LINC; Liaisons Into Cultures.” Directed a community-based project developing a culturally and linguistically responsive, community-based model program to provide genetic counseling and education to African American and Russian immigrant communities in Northwest Baltimore. In collaboration with Howard University increase minority recruitment into genetic counseling. •

Awarded $504,898 grant from the HRSA Maternal and Child Health Bureau, through Special Projects of Regional and National Significance (SPRANS) for a three-year period Tay-Sachs screening rates by Russian Jews have increased almost twenty folds and African American enrollment in genetic care increased by 50% In collaborations with community organizers from North West Baltimore, organized community health fairs benefiting more than 8,000 community residents Participated in over 30 career fairs with more than 800 students attending increasing the numbers of queries on genetic counseling careers within the National Society of Genetic Counselors Convened more than 100 national scholars, educators, community members and policy makers for a two-day working symposium on equity in the genome; “The National Dialogue on Genetics”. (Meeting proceedings were published in the journal Community Genetics).
