In the spring of 1979, the Newton Rams celebrate after defeating Tucker 4-1 en route to the Georgia AAAA Baseball Championship. The Rams later defeated Windsor-Forest for the state title. Jack Teeter was head coach at the time. It marked the first state championship in the history of Newton’s athletic program. n its 150 year history, Newton County Schools’ athletic programs have been successful in capturing numerous state and region crowns across multiple sports. NEWTON RAMS Established in 1949, the Rams have athletic success that spans across decades. From football to golf, each sport has made its mark in Newton’s athletic history.
