WELCOME TO OUR SPRING/SUMMER GIFT CATALOGUE Spring is here at last. At ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, we have much to look forward to over the coming months; in particular, our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer. It is so cheering to be able to get out and about again, after two very difficult years.

This catalogue is packed with gifts and items to inspire you; from Jubilee-themed products, such as Jane Abbott’s special-edition Platinum Jubilee mug (p.6), to Army-linked books, clothing and jewellery, and our beneficiary Kirstie’s limited-edition soaps (p.12). I hope you find something to treat your friends and family, or indeed yourself, this Spring.

We are particularly grateful to Paul (pictured right, in the rugby shirt), a veteran who our charity is proud to have supported recently, for joining in with the catalogue photoshoot. Paul lost his job and his home during the pandemic. But I am delighted to report that, with a little help from our charity, he now has settled into his new home and is working as a photographer.

It is thanks to your support, be that through taking on fundraising challenges, continuing to make regular donations, or making purchases from our shop, that we can react quickly to situations such as Paul’s and get people back on their feet again as thriving members of society.

I hope you see something that you would like in this catalogue. All profits raised go directly towards our work supporting the Army family.

CORONATION MEMORIES Second World War veteran Edwin ‘Ted’ Hunt, aged 102, is a resident at Care for Veterans, which we are proud to fund. He shares his fond memories of the Queen’s coronation, on 2nd June 1953.

He remembers the bustle of street parties, the smell of bonfires in the air and the exhilarating joy of everyone coming together to celebrate, putting memories of the Second World War behind them.

“In the East End of London, where I grew up, in every street the tables were laid out. It was a very happy time – we were leaving the war behind us and lots of derelict areas were being built up.

“We’ve been so lucky to have had our Queen on the throne for 70 years. Whatever job she takes on, she does her homework.”

Dame Joanna Lumley has kindly signed ten copies of her brilliant new book, so some lucky supporters will own this special edition as a super Platinum Jubilee memento.

Joanna admires the Queen hugely and says she’s a marvellous role model for all of us. Dame Joanna is a long-time supporter of our charity. Her father and grandfather were both British Army officers and served in India, where she was born.
