SOLDIERS’ ANGELS

2022 ANNUAL REPORT

We were away from our location for a 30-day intensive training. I have just started opening some boxes that were sent in November. As we have returned from our training, which was very intensive and demanding of the Soldiers, seeing all the care packages and opening them up for the troops, Christmas items, and general snacks have been a HUGE lift to their spirits! Many have asked where I get all the snacks and things from and are so grateful for all the support from various Patriotic Americans. God Bless, and thank you again!

2 | SOLDIERS’ ANGELS

Dear Soldiers’ Angels Supporters,

None of us will forget Russia’s attack on Ukraine in early 2022. Not only did this event spark an uptick in the mobilization of our Military forces in support of our NATO allies, but it also sent a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of all those who valiantly serve our country and our obligation to support them and their families back home.

For Soldiers’ Angels, 2022 was also a dynamic year, in part, because with the gradual relaxation of COVID restrictions, we, through the support of our Angel volunteer network and our corporate partners, were able to reach more Service Members and Veterans in person than any time in the past two years.

By the time third quarter rolled around, it truly felt like the floodgates of generosity had opened. On top of the outpouring of love and support from our long-time supporters, corporations were feverishly booking events that benefited Soldiers’ Angels, companies were encouraging employees to volunteer at our in-person events again, and VAs began to loosen their COVID restrictions allowing more volunteers back to support Veterans. We also saw greater visibility of our efforts reflected in the media.

We reached a new audience when President and CEO Amy Palmer was invited to appear on ABC’s Live with Kelly and Ryan, where she discussed the services provided by Soldiers’ Angels and shared with viewers from around the world how others can get involved. Other highlights include Soldiers’ Angels being featured as one of the nonprofits on the huge NASDAQ billboard in Times Square for National Nonprofit Day, and when our work to support food-insecure Veteran families was highlighted by dozens of local news stations across the country.

As you will see on the pages of this report, with your love, unwavering support, and dedication to our mission, our programs thrived in 2022. Highlights of a few of the programs include the following:

• Providing 36,000 Veterans with food assistance across the country through our food distribution efforts;

• Mailing more than 190,000 letters and cards in 2022 to deployed Service Members, Veterans, and Caregivers;

• Celebrating 10 years of the Home of the Brave program by supporting Veterans in 131 VA Hospitals across 46 states and Washington, D.C.;

• Registering a record 16 breweries to our Hops for Heroes campaign and participating in the Great American Beer Festival as a featured nonprofit;

• And launching new impactful campaigns like the Military Working Dog Campaign to honor those dogs and their handlers keeping our nation safe and secure.

All told, more than 877,000 Service Members, Veterans, and family members were supported in 2022 — all because of supporters like you who continue to contribute your time, money, and effort to ensure No Soldier Goes Unloved.

As we continue to emerge from the COVID years, we are excited about the future of Soldiers’ Angels providing resources to our deployed Service Members and Veterans with your continued support. With grateful hearts, we thank you for your kind and generous time and donations and we look forward to partnering with you to enhance these services to our Military and Veteran communities during 2023 and beyond.

Thank you,

PROGRAMS

By the end of 2022, and for the first year since COVID began, we finally got to a place where we were running 100 percent of our normal programming. We still faced occasional challenges working within the VA, due to the ever-changing COVID restrictions within the hospitals, but our volunteers were slowly and steadily able to get back into the hospitals and provide direct support.

For the third year in a row, Soldiers’ Angels continued to increase support to activated U.S. Guard and Reserves units. Thankfully, many of the COVID-related activations were on the decline, however activations for border support and civil unrest still kept our Guardsmen and Reservists very busy throughout the year. Soldiers’ Angels was proud to be there for them once again.

Deployed Support Program

The team of volunteers working within the Deployed Support Program ensure Service Members deployed on combat and humanitarian missions are supported and appreciated during their time away. Working virtually, volunteers across six different teams write letters, send care packages, make homemade baked goods, and more.

Teams: Angel Bakers, Chaplain Support, Deployed Adoptions, Ladies of Liberty, Letter Writing, Special Operations Forces

Family Support Program

Military Families face many challenges before, during, and after deployment. The volunteers of the Family Support Program help families through those challenges by honoring and recognizing their sacrifices.

Teams: Adopt-A-Family, Baby Brigade, Cards Plus, Women of Valor

Wounded Support Program

The Wounded Support Program provides support at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center (LRMC) in Landstuhl, Germany, the main treatment facility for any Service Member medevaced from the Middle East. As the largest U.S. hospital in Europe, LRMC has played a crucial role in testing and treating COVID-19 within the entire Military community stationed in the Eastern Hemisphere. Soldiers’ Angels provides supplies and support to the hospital and the Service Members treated there.

Veteran Support Program

Soldiers’ Angels provides a wide array of services to Veterans of all generations through the Veteran Support Program. These services are focused on meeting needs of the low-income and homeless Veteran populations that are not already being met by the government or other organizations.

Developed with guidance from VA leadership and caseworkers, these services are crucial to Veterans in need:

• Transportation assistance for Veterans to get to/from VA appointments

• Food assistance through Veteran Food Distributions, non-perishable box lunches, and gift cards that can be used at the VA Canteen for a hot meal

• Household items provided to homeless Veterans once they are approved and accepted into the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program

But that’s not all. A network of volunteers across the country work in person to support Veterans at VA Hospitals. These volunteers organize and host luncheons, dinners, and game nights; they visit patients’ bedsides; they distribute hygiene and comfort items; and they work at VA Stand Down events.

Although the COVID protocols at the VA continued to shift throughout the year, these volunteers hung in for every twist and turn. They volunteered in person when they could and continued to support in whatever capacity when COVID protocols prohibited them from visiting the hospital. We’re so grateful for their unwavering dedication to the Veterans we support.

The event was awesome. I want to thank all the people that made this possible. I was in a real tight spot when it came to food. This drive helped my family so much. I got emotional and left in tears because there are people still out here that do care and do good for others. Thank you all so much. Please continue doing what you are doing. This helped so many families in need.

CAMPAIGNS

In addition to the year-round programs Soldiers’ Angels provides to the Military and Veteran community, we also host several collection campaigns throughout the year that allow the public to actively engage in supporting our heroes and their families. Thankfully, even before the pandemic forced everyone to shelter inside their homes, these campaigns were all virtual.

The year 2022 once again began with some lingering trepidation regarding COVID— but that impact did not slow down our collection campaigns at all!

HOME OF THE BRAVE

Established in 2012 and gifted to Soldiers’ Angels by Peraton in 2020, Home of the Brave partners with the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) and corporate partner employees to honor and support Veterans at VA medical facilities on or around Veterans Day. Volunteers organize special events, visit patients, and donate much-needed items during the days leading up to or immediately following November 11. To date, the program has supported over 264,000 Veterans. The campaign is now officially branded as Soldiers’ Angels Home of the Brave and Peraton has continued as its title sponsor.

TITLE SPONSOR

In 2022, in just one week, Soldiers’ Angels Home of the Brave served 131 VA medical facility sites in 46 states plus Washington, D.C., with 895 volunteers spending more than 6,500 hours to honor 25,047 Veterans.

Since 2012, 6,897 volunteers have contributed

48,807 volunteer hours, honoring 264,461 Veterans, totaling over $1,886,000.

We had the honor and the privilege to visit the Access Housing Inc. Washington, D.C. Southeast Veterans Services Center. During our visit we had an ice cream social and gave each Veteran a bag with hygiene kits, gloves, T-shirts, caps, thank you cards, and wristbands. We had so much fun serving them and talking to them about their time in their respective branch of service. Each Veteran was so thankful and they thanked us for everything. We even joked around about the different branches of service. The Executive Director, Greg Crawford, gave us a tour of the facility and also showed us drawings of a plan to build a new facility in the future. We were also invited to come back and join them for their Thanksgiving dinner where they have former NFL players serving the Veterans. It truly was a great feeling and event.

2022 10 | SOLDIERS’ ANGELS

We enjoyed our HOTB event! We passed out our cinch bags in an assembly line style along with lunch from Jason’s Deli! The Veterans were very grateful that we were there! Soldiers’ Angels were the first volunteers since COVID that were allowed in the patient rooms for Home of the Brave! The Veterans were so thankful for the blankets we made for them and for the interaction with Soldiers’ Angels! What a blessing it is to give back to our Veterans!

HIGHLIGHT MISSION: UGLY SWEATERS OVERSEAS

12 | SOLDIERS’ ANGELS
2022

Weeks before December, a deployed Chaplain reached out to the Soldiers’ Angels Chaplain Support Team with a special request: ugly Christmas sweaters, and lots of them! He was planning a holiday party for the Service Members he supported and hoped that something fun and silly might bring a smile to their faces.

The Angels on the Chaplain Support Team didn’t even think twice! They gathered boxes of sweaters and got them in the mail to the Chaplain as quickly as possible. The Angels knew this mission was about more than providing some party clothes — this was about sending something that would boost morale during a time of the year that is particularly difficult for deployed troops. Something silly, like receiving an ugly sweater to wear to the base holiday party, might be just the thing to get them through the holidays.

After the Chaplain received the first few sweaters, he had this to say:

“Hope all is well. Yes, we just picked up the mail yesterday and we received seven ugly sweaters. Some Soldiers saw them, and they were so excited to grab them, but I told them not to. LOL. The joy that came over my face and the few Soldiers that saw them was priceless. I can’t wait for the rest to get here and to distribute them in December.”

When we received that message back, we knew we were on track for making the holiday party a memorable one for those deployed! So, we decided to take it to the next level! One of the annual traditions at Soldiers’ Angels is to have a staff Ugly Sweater Contest and ask our Facebook followers to vote for the winner. But what if this year we made the contest be our staff against the deployed Service Members? Stateside vs. Deployed!

We coordinated with the Chaplain once more and shared the idea with him. He loved it and agreed to send photos back as soon as he had them. So… we crossed our fingers and waited… hoping we would get the photos back in time.

Thankfully, we did!! And so — on National Ugly Sweater Day, just hours after the deployed Service Members celebrated their holiday party in their sweaters— we were able to share our first-ever (and first of what will hopefully become an annual tradition) “Stateside vs. Deployed Ugly Sweater Contest!”

We opened the contest up for voting on our social media channels and, naturally, Deployed won by a landslide! Which was perfect because the real prize for all of us here Stateside was just to see the smiles on their faces in their BDU’s, combat boots, and some truly ugly sweaters.

HIGHLIGHT USAA: OUR HOMETOWN HERO

With their corporate offices less than a 20-minute drive from the Soldiers’ Angels headquarters in San Antonio, Texas, USAA has been supporting our programs, campaigns, and events for several years. But 2022 was a year when this corporation became our very own hometown hero.

When COVID began, many corporations, including USAA, paused their employee volunteer initiatives due to the risk of their staff catching and spreading the virus. In 2022, USAA officially lifted their restrictions on employees volunteering in person and boy did they come back to Soldiers’ Angels with a bang!

Starting in October 2022, USAA invited Soldiers’ Angels to be a part of their in-person leadership event in San Antonio. The group of USAA leaders packed box lunches and hygiene kits, wrote “Thank You” cards for the Veterans who would receive the items, and learned about the important mission behind all that we do at Soldiers’ Angels.

Soon after, USAA teamed up with the Houston Texans and the Lady Texans to host a baby shower for expectant Military and Veteran moms-to-be. With USAA’s help, 20 Military moms were brought together by Soldiers’ Angels and showered with gifts, brunch, and games.

Next up was the holiday season and USAA returned for the third year in a row to provide holiday support in a BIG way. USAA provided a financial contribution to cover most of the expenses for purchasing and shipping 12,000 holiday stockings to deployed Service Members and Veterans. Additionally, they supported through numerous employee volunteer events where USAA employees stuffed and packed the stockings. In addition, they also returned to support the Holiday Adopt-A-Family program by adopting 120 eligible families from six different cities and providing them gifts for their children and a grocery gift card for their holiday meal.

USAA also selected Soldiers’ Angels as their featured nonprofit for their Seasons of Sharing employee citizenship event throughout the entire holiday season. This meant that in just the last two

2022 20 | SOLDIERS’ ANGELS

months of the year, hundreds of USAA employee volunteers came through our office to help pack candy for Treats for Troops, stuff holiday stockings, make paracord bracelets and sort and pack other needed items, as needed.

We would not have made it through the immensely busy end of the year without the incredible support of the USAA employee volunteers that flowed through our office.

Last, but not least, Soldiers’ Angels was honored to be a part of USAA and the National Auto Body Council’s Recycled Rides® event in December where they gave away 15 refurbished vehicles to deserving Veterans — seven of which were Veterans supported by and submitted by Soldiers’ Angels.

We could not be more grateful for the incredible relationship between Soldiers’ Angels and USAA. Their employees, support, and funding have made a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of Service Members, Veterans, and Military Families supported by Soldiers’ Angels. USAA’s commitment to stand by our mission and help us grow is truly proof that they “know what it means to serve.”

Thank you Soldiers’ Angels…the name itself says it all because you all are definitely angels!!! I have received so much love from this organization and just recently in my family’s time of need the most with a sick family member. All the Angels supported and provided. I will always be grateful and support this organization. I will definitely spread the word to keep them going.

ANNUAL REPORT | 27
— Veteran supported by Soldiers’ Angels

CORPORATE PARTNERS

Boeing

In September, Boeing awarded a $50,000 grant to Soldiers’ Angels to support its Veteran hunger relief initiatives in San Antonio. This generous funding created an immediate impact on the food assistance programs and even allowed us to more than double the number of Veterans supported at the San Antonio food distribution in December — increasing the number of registered Veterans from 200 to 500!

“As a Veteran, I have seen firsthand the effects of food insecurity on the Military community,” said Richard Delgado Jr., Boeing Global Engagement community investor. “Through this partnership with Soldiers’ Angels, we will be able to address some of the food insecurity facing Veterans and service families during the holiday season and beyond. The Boeing Company understands that Veterans make us better. We owe our Veterans and Military Families a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay.”

BURNCO

The ready-mixed concrete supplier BURNCO Colorado once again laid a solid foundation (no pun intended) for the Soldiers’ Angels team in Denver to be successful in 2023. For the third year in a row, they donated to support all of the Soldiers’ Angels programs and services in Denver! That includes the Soldiers’ Angels Denver Food Distribution — which, as of January 2023, will not only provide food assistance to Denver Veterans but also to low-income active-duty Service Members and Guardsmen/Reservists in the Denver area.

Navy Federal

Navy Federal Credit Union teamed up with Soldiers’ Angels to show their support of Service Members and Veterans in a big way! More than 700 employees from coast-to-coast gathered during a company event to create over 500 blankets, 1,300 paracord bracelets, and 100 handmade holiday ornaments.

“The energy in the room was incredible,” said Brandi Gomez, Corporate Social Responsibility Program Manager for Navy Federal. “Our team members showed up in full force to fulfill our mission, with every table filled and many creating space on the floor, to serve our members, connect and champion community with each other. Being able to bring these meaningful moments back to campus meant so much to our team and will leave a lasting mark on my heart.”

In addition, Navy Federal chose Soldiers’ Angels as their charity of choice for their annual 5K event which raised over $10,000!

If it is on your heart to help Veterans and their families, I would HIGHLY recommend supporting Soldiers’ Angels and becoming an “Angel” to Military families like mine! — Veteran supported by Soldiers’ Angels

In December, we were honored to serve this WWII Veteran at our Orlando Food Distribution. He shared with us that he served directly under General Patton — which is extra special for Soldiers’ Angels because our founder is General Patton’s Great Grand Niece!
